My favorite is the k5la. My local short line has one with two of the bells reversed hand it has a much different sound, it is higher pitched and less smooth sounding. It is the best sound I’ve ever heard
GOOD DOPPLER SHIFT EXAMPLE Horn goes from higher pitch at 5:07 to slightly lower pitch at 5:12 as train passes camera. CAUSE Speed of train moving towards you adds to the speed of the horn's sound waves. Your ear hears more waves per second ( higher pitch ). Once train pass, its speed subtracts from speed of sound, so your ear hears less waves per second ( lower pitch ). TAP ON BLUE TIME LINKS MULTIPLE TIMES FOR MAX EFFECT.
0:34 These highway railroad crossings are the best! I have these in Train Simulator 2022 from the CN Yellowhead Pass route and in Trainz 2019 from Legacy of the BN V2 and some other dlc routes I think. Oh wait nvm these aren't the RXRs I was referring to.
Thanks so much for this!! I’m at a family member’s house near some railroad tracks and couldn’t identify one of the horns! It’s been a big help! Update: I keep hearing train horns as I’m in a busy area for the KCS so I’m saving this video to a playlist so I can use them to help me identify train horns. Thank you so much @BNSF2184
My favorites are the RS3L, NCP5, 1st and 3rd Gen K5LLA, 1st Gen K5HL, Prime 920 (Both CEbA and BebA tunings), 3rd Gen K5LA and K3LA, K3HL, and both Canadian K3 and K5 variants
I 100 percent agree. If I were to have my own train than it would be that locomotive. It sounds like a perfect symphony that gives me the goosebumps. Legendary.
Never heard of an RS3P, are you sure its not a nathan on that BNSF Gevo? My fav horn is always gonna be the RS3L(R etc) because I grew up a few blocks from a Conrail secondary line. But the BN RS3K is certainly a very close second as I loved the BN as a kid too. This was a nice variety of horns.
Hey, great video! I didn't realise there were so many types in the US. I'm working on a video about how train horns are used here in Australia, and I need a couple of international examples - would you mind if I used one of the clips from this video? Would give your channel a plug at the end of course!
I appreciate this a ton because im trying yo find a horn for my N scale GP-60 SP if it gets sound I dont want the horn that comes on those because ive never heard it
1st gen k5la (80's AMTRAK) New cast p5 the old Then new p3 then old then Rs5t, Rs3l The 2nd and 3rd gen K5lla And let's not forget the Nathan P012345 on the AMTRAK E60's
Ha! SP 9401 tunnel motor. He and I are old friends. There's a T-2 on display at the CSRM. It's kind of weird to see what you made your money with sitting in a museum... Doesn't bode well for me, does it?
2:19 that is by far the best Santa Fe war bonnet with the most healthiest original RS-3L horn I have ever seen and heard
bro that RS3K gave me the chills and so did that OC P5
10:51 a sound I’ll always remember
Magic on a locomotive
14:31 I love that Doppler effect
Me too. Thats why i chose this clip.

Bells reversed? Sounds like it could be a K5LAR24
You: Imma drive all over the country and record train horns.
Me: Lemme grab my coat and hat!
K5LA 1rst gen. was my favorite.
K5lla is my favorite
I like both!! Yes, I need it!
I like the 3rd gen k5hl, new cast p5, old cast p5 and the 1st gen k5hl.
I agree. The 1st gen K5la is the definition of a train horn.
that first gen K3LA is golden, I’ve never heard a better K3LA tuning in my life
The RS3P sounds like a mix of an RS3L and RS5T

5:46, that horn belongs on that trailing unit!
It belongs on Aurizon Narrow gauge locomotives in WA

K5LA First gen music to my ears
Old cast p5s sounds like a train horn from a southern railway sd40-2 horn
12:34 is the best horn ever
The horn on BNSF 2184, that horn is awesome. I heard this horn on CSX a couple of times.

HOW ARE ALL OF YOUR SHOTS SO RARE!!!!!!!!!!
I like that you started with the RS5T. One of my personal favorite Leslie horns.
3:48 Prime 920 train horn sounds like a Leslie RS3L train horn.
Yep... Primes are basically Leslie knock offs

I think we can all agree that SD70ACes only are proper with K5LLA or K5LA Horns.
