I LOVED this game. As a kid I couldn’t for the life of me beat the last cup on hard, and so going back to it years later, it felt so so good to actually beat and unlock everything else! This game was just such a hidden gem in the sports franchise and I’d love to see it again
I played the hell out of this game when I was a kid and I remember having such a hard time unlocking the Ninja, the White Mage and the Black Mage. That final level on the Rainbow ship used to be sooooo hard, but that's one of the things that gave me the most satisfaction after finally unlocking them. I also remember I was crazy to play as Dixie Kong because that was the first Mario sporty spin-off to ever feature her. My go-to team used to be Daisy, Birdo and Dixie and I miss those simpler times lol
Looking back at it as a grown-up man, Mario Sports Mix is kinda lackluster in comparison to Hoops but oh God, I played that game so damn much. I'd love to have either of them available for me to play again
One of my absolute favorite DS games. A bit of a hidden gem of the marios IMO. Super innovative and fun! Love the special dunks, playing against the hardest COMs definitely makes the game challenging!
There's just truly something unique about mario ds games, seriously. Mario and Luigi series, Mario party ds, hoops 3 on 3? These games are still some of my favorite and Mario party ds is absolutely underrated.
My favorite way to play this game in on Wii U. It’s actually kinda neat to see this game out on the big screen, and it plays seamlessly without looking at the touch screen even though you use it the entire game.
Mario and Final Fantasy crossing over to play basketball? This seems like the kind of weird game that I'd want in my collection. I absolutely must get it along with Pokemon Typing Adventure and Fortune Street.
While I never played this game, I’ve heard many good things about it! I did play Mario Sports Mix on Wii tho, and that was a banger, so I imagine this would be to a similar standard
The difficulty in this game spikes so much. Also this was probably my introduction to Final Fantasy characters despite for years not knowing they were Final Fantasy characters.
I remember owning and playing this game when I was younger but only about a while ago that I relized that it wasn't just some weird fever dream of mines.
This unlocked good memories of my childhood, I dont know why this game is so little known today! the Underwater court was my fav, the colors were so pretty and chill to play
I haven't even finished the video but I have a lot to say about this game. I lost this game cartridge YEARS ago probably sometime in 2007 after having it for maybe a few months. I remember LOOOOOVING this game and playing it a lot before I had lost it. I even remember the little jingle where they'd sing "three on threeeeeee". Never found the cartridge (last remember having it at a neighbor's house) and for some really weird reason, despite even working at a resell game shop for years at one point where I could have easily secured a copy, I never bought or played it again. I also have not looked up gameplay footage or any videos on it until now, so it has only really existed in my memories for all these years. Glad to see someone has fond memories of it as well! Maybe I will make it a goal this year to finally get & play a copy.
Hoops 3 on 3 and Mario sluggers were such fun underated games for Mario. Wish we could get more like them or rpg like games like Wii sluggers to adventure around gaining allies
Bro, that game right there is one of my favorite sports games of all time. I put it next to my Mt. Rushmore of sports video games next to NFL street 2, nba street 2 and super Mario strikers. My hometown team the Dallas mavericks made it to the finals the year this game came out so I’ve also had a soft spot for this game too
I absolutely love this game and played it so much as a kid! Once I unlocked them my main team of 3 was Boo,Parakoopa, and Moogle. Plus some of the music is so good.
Hell yeah new video! I’ve been seeing more people talk about this game lately that’s awesome. I still have my complete copy I’ve had since a kid this game was great man. square needs to be allowed to make a new mario basketball game for the switch that would be great! Plus the soundtrack for this game went hard for no reason
Wait what the hell, I just played this game on my Homebrewed 3DS after 10 years or so, look for videos about it and this one was made just 2 hours ago? Wow, what a coincidence!
Well probably never see it but I would love a NBA 2K Nintendo game. NBA Street Vol 3 had the iconic 3 become players. So a system like that but with the entire Nintendo cast would be incredible.
The game came out with awful timing for me. Worldwide releases weren't commonplace back then and it was supposed to be my Christmas present, but it missed the date in Europe and was delayed to february 2007. Sadly, a PTA meeting held before then turned out to be so disastrous, my mother would put all of my game hardware in a box until the school year ended. It turned out only to do more harm than good thanks to what I found out only recently to be ADHD, as I only had my consoles in my mind back then and couldn't care less about studying. Also, until the incident I used to 100% all of my games, but "thanks" to this unwanted gaming-less 6-month period I now have an ever-expanding backlog (gaming releases went on, I didn't).
Aye, I had so much fun playing that game on the DS I even remember beating the game when I was 17 and celebrating it like I won the NBA finals as the rainbow tourney had a stupidly steep difficulty curve for me at least and I had to use my full strength to beat it.
I remember a Penny Arcade comic for this where Gabe throws his DS and screams "NINJAS SHOULD NOT PLAY BASKETBALL!!!" Then Tycho comes in and says "So you smashed your DS?" And the Gabe says "That was your DS. I smashed mine this morning." I have no idea why I still remember that.
My cousin had this and we'd play on my DS all the time. Still the most fun sports game to me along with strikers. Charged specifically, newest one is... Not quite my tempo
So... A Mario Sports game made by Square Enix, with the inclusion of Final Fantasy characters and yet they didn't even THINK of including Geno or Mallow? Okay...
I remember the game, I had fun aaand I played this this year and last, (funfact: here in Europe it's called Mario slam basketball, there in America it's called Mario h3o3 you all here already know)
I used to play this game a lot. I got all the characters, stages and all gold trophys. Them I later lost the game cartridge. I wish this had online like Mario Kart DS.
@3:11 - Sold on "Air Plumbers!" 🥾🥾 @5:01 and @16:38 - Mario Slam Basketball (Wii eShop / DS) @6:42 - Two browser-based [Flash] games: Dribble Skillz and Superstar Shootout @17:12 - Mario Sports Mix (Wii) @18:33 - ❤ (@19:05 - 👀‼) When I first heard of this game, I was pleasantly surprised that Square-Enix did the development of it (especially being a fan of their famed RPGs)! Thank-you very much, #JordanFringeGaming, for the trip through Mario's basketball journey! 😎👍👉🏀
I really feel like the Mario sports games would be better as a anthology game like the Olympic Sonic and Mario games. I feel like the only Mario sports games that can stand by themselves are tennis and baseball, maybe the soccer strikers game too, but I never played that one.
I remember this game fondly from my childhood. Because I didn't read I had no idea Square Enix were involved with this game so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the Final Fantasy characters on my first playthrough.
Thanks so much for watching! Did you play Mario Hoops 3 on 3? Would you want a new Mario Hoops game? Let me know!
Omg you brought back some old memories thank you for that 🖤🖤🖤
I actually had that game on the original DS.
Could you please do a video game about the gravity falls game
Yes, I have played this game, but I lost my copy a really long time ago…
We need a new one with sonic.
I LOVED this game. As a kid I couldn’t for the life of me beat the last cup on hard, and so going back to it years later, it felt so so good to actually beat and unlock everything else! This game was just such a hidden gem in the sports franchise and I’d love to see it again
I used to play the minigame with my cousin on that game from what I remember, but if it was only a dream then it was a good one..
I played the hell out of this game when I was a kid and I remember having such a hard time unlocking the Ninja, the White Mage and the Black Mage. That final level on the Rainbow ship used to be sooooo hard, but that's one of the things that gave me the most satisfaction after finally unlocking them. This game and New Super Mario Bros were the first DS games I played growing up. This was also my introduction to Final Fantasy.
2 of the best ds games ever made , so goated
Nintendo still haven't did football
Yet.
A couple of sports they missed out
on.
I have actually wanted another one of these. Or another Mario Sports Mix, which was a similar concept.
Probably due to having the same developer.
Looking back at it as a grown-up man, Mario Sports Mix is kinda lackluster in comparison to Hoops but oh God, I played that game so damn much. I'd love to have either of them available for me to play again
NBA street on the GameCube has Mario characters
my friends and i would play this literally every day after school, good times
You have all my envy. See my sob story in the comment I posted for details
Cactuar was BROKEN
Same
This was my designated "sick day" game as I recall. Every time I was ill, I'd take my DS up my nan's and play this.
One of my absolute favorite DS games. A bit of a hidden gem of the marios IMO. Super innovative and fun! Love the special dunks, playing against the hardest COMs definitely makes the game challenging!
I loved this game so much, this and Diddy Kong racing were probably my most played on the original DS
When I heard the character select song, I thought the lyrics were "We are free!"
But they're actually "Three on Three!"
I LOVE the black mage design in the game so much
I was obsessed with this game in middle school, it felt so good to dunk.
Never realized Sports Mix was the successor to Hoops, neat.
There's just truly something unique about mario ds games, seriously. Mario and Luigi series, Mario party ds, hoops 3 on 3? These games are still some of my favorite and Mario party ds is absolutely underrated.
I remember my brother having this game before. Wished I’d played it more often back then
My favorite way to play this game in on Wii U. It’s actually kinda neat to see this game out on the big screen, and it plays seamlessly without looking at the touch screen even though you use it the entire game.
Mario and Final Fantasy crossing over to play basketball? This seems like the kind of weird game that I'd want in my collection. I absolutely must get it along with Pokemon Typing Adventure and Fortune Street.
this game was cool. Playing as final fantasy characters blew my mind. Especially the cactus
I love this game! Glad Nintendo gave Mario a basketball game. The character select song still slap 😂
Sherbet Land also slaps. Probably more than the character select theme
This was my first DS game right next to New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario 64 DS. Great times.

LOVE the use of Bowser Jr’s theme from Hoops 3 on 3. LOVE that game.
The title music of this game transports me right back to like 2007, man those were the days
My hometown team the Dallas mavericks made it to the finals the year this game came out so I’ve also had a soft spot for this game too
my favorite thing was the final fantasy characters & hitting a different button to play as Blue Ninja
Loved this game sm 😭
The Square characters were so dope
I absolutely love this game and played it so much as a kid! Once I unlocked them my main team of 3 was Boo,Parakoopa, and Moogle. Plus some of the music is so good.

That was such great game.
Interesting fact: The composer for these games would go on to compose the music for FFXIV and FFXVI.
Brooo I loved the hell outta this game. I would always make sure I had it on long road trips!
The game came out with awful timing for me. Worldwide releases weren't commonplace back then and it was supposed to be my Christmas present, but it missed the date in Europe and was delayed to february 2007. This needs a home console port YESTERDAY
Aye, I had so much fun playing that game on the DS I even remember beating the game when I was 17 and celebrating it like I won the NBA finals as the rainbow tourney had a stupidly steep difficulty curve for me at least and I had to use my full strength to beat it.

Loved this game as a kid such an underrated gem!
the multiplayer mode on this game is sooo much fun, me and my cousins would play it together all the time as a kid
Yes! And it's one of my favorite Mario sports titles. I had a lot of fun playing this on my DS back in the day.
My cousin had this and we'd play on my DS all the time. Still the most fun sports game to me along with strikers. Charged specifically, newest one is... Not quite my tempo
Another awesome video! Really enjoying this second Chanel
Yeah Boo is the most important character!
I loved playing this game when I was younger, I lost mine but hopefully I can find another one
I been looking for what this game was call for years, now I finally know. And I don’t even like basketball but I loved this game.
This is really the only Maruo sports game I have fond memories of, played it all the time as a kid.
I still remember the feeling of dribbling on a question blocks and it was fire I lost the disc😭
Wish we could get more like them or rpg like games like Wii sluggers to adventure around gaining allies
one thing i do know about this game, the sherbert land theme is really good especially the cd version
underrated gem, and the hard torneys was a real skill test
I remember trying to complete all of the Basketballs they offer you as rewards to use in the game.
it's been a long time I've played it
So... A Mario Sports game made by Square Enix, with
the inclusion of Final Fantasy characters and yet they
didn't even THINK of including Geno or Mallow?
Okay...
Now that you mentioned it,that would've been a perfect opportunity
Man this was awesome when i play this before its was a fun time on my nintendo disc it was a blast
Great video! 10:13 basically sums up this game.
Really excited for this when it was coming out but disappointed
I had this on my DS it was so much fun
I really liked the Bowser Jr. course, it was pretty cool.
Oh yeah. That game is a huge part of my childhood.
Yes this game is amazing.
Oh my god I loved that game!!!! I still break it out on my DS sometimes
Jesus Christ your bringing back memories
So many highschool lunch break memories coming back to me watching this. Thanks I needed that today
Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time
I won’t lie, I loves this game!
Getting the final fantasy characters was the best! When mario sports mix came out and had those same characters!
I loved this game growing up i kinda wish i didn't lost it in a Chinese restaurant when i was younger
I always used the d-pad and face buttons for the game, only using the touch screen for specials.
Always liked this game just because of the final fantasy characters lol
this game is so good I remember playing it on my 3DS
I remember the game, I had fun aaand I played this this year and last, (funfact: here in Europe it's called Mario slam basketball, there in America it's called Mario h3o3 you all here already know)
All I remember about this game is that my elementary school had an issue of sports illustrated kids with an ad for this game.
So weird that the algorithm on my Instagram decided to show me footage of this game, and then you upload a video of this lol
I was just playing this a couple days ago I almost have every character except Fly Guy I love the multiplayers battle arena with exclusive stages
I do remember this game. And I love it
I used to play this game a lot. I got all the characters, stages and all gold trophys. Them I later lost the game cartridge. I wish this had online like Mario Kart DS.
Mario will NEVER be ballin-
@3:11 - Sold on "Air Plumbers!" 🥾🥾

When I first heard of this game, I was pleasantly surprised that Square-Enix did the development of it (especially being a fan of their famed RPGs)! Thank-you very much, #JordanFringeGaming, for the trip through Mario's basketball journey! 😎👍👉🏀
This game is so good, and also so underrated.
is it just me or the one underwater was the hardest 😭😭😭 even more than the final stage
I really feel like the Mario sports games would be better as a anthology game like the Olympic Sonic and Mario games. I feel like the only Mario sports games that can stand by themselves are tennis and baseball, maybe the soccer strikers game too, but I never played that one.
12:16 Was expecting a punchline against Mario Strikers Battle League's bland maps at this point..
Had this game when I was a kid. Just got a Nintendo DSi the other day. This was the first game I got in comes in tomorrow 😂😂😂
The game was named Mario slam basketball in the EU.
I absolutely LOVED this game!! I could never beat it though and I used an Action Replay to unlock everything...Ugh.
Interested to see a video on SSX or the EA Street series.
The fact I played that game today on my old DS. 🤯🤣
this game was the shit for kid me. Played it so much. LOVE 3 ON 3
I remember this game fondly from my childhood. Because I didn't read I had no idea Square Enix were involved with this game so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the Final Fantasy characters on my first playthrough.
3 on 3 could really make a comeback especially with the new oled switch
This game is very underrated I enjoyed it til I got to the final fantasy level lol
Mario needs a Tony Hawk style game
I remember this game on RUclips I think
this game rocks i want a sequel for the switch!
This game was peak not gonna lie
Bro I had a dream about it last night
This is legit one the best Mario sports games, second only to Mario Strikers Charged.
This game needs a sequel
Yay Mario lore!
