Farmers in Germany have come out in their tractors to protest.
They have lined up their farm vehicles in major cities like the capital Berlin. The German farmers are protesting against the government's decision to remove an agricultural diesel subsidy.
The German government is facing an $18 billion budget deficit after an adverse court ruling.
But the farmers say they cannot sustain themselves if the subsidies are removed.

I'm German and it's not just the farmers, but also logistics companies, truck drivers, craftsmen and many more. In addition, almost all of Europe supports us. They drive to Berlin with their tractors and trucks. We are currently experiencing the largest demonstration since World War II. It's the start of something really big!

If Germany has so much extra money to fund Ukraine's war, then why is there no money to give to their own farmers ? That is perplexing.

As a citizen, we can support the movement by not buying anything large, because then, the regime will be deprived of Taxes during this period. Buy only essentials and also in small quantities.

i want to mention that its less a subsidy and more a taxbreak for diesel - and it based on the fact that diesel tax is used for the roads and if they are not protesting they spend only 1% of their diesel on the road but on the field.
You are only half right, but I will agree that it is going off the insane taxation of Diesel. The roads are being maintained off of car taxation (registration in the US).
Not buying Russian energy isn't a good strategy.

The tax on fuel is to be used for maintaining roads and bridges; that's how it started. Since farmers and those working in forests almost exclusively use their vehicles offroad they have always been exempt from this tax - it never was a subsidy !!!
But nobody speaks about this aspect and today most Germans don't even know about this fact....

Germany is financing development projects around the world (including in India) - but let it's farmers bleed (not only by cutting subsidies that help produce food). The colder European countries produce more serious and introverted people.

These norms are so ingrained that nowadays, even though people live alone with central heating, the cultural legacy continues. This is especially true of the older generations.

Well working construction most of my life. I had to subsidize a Lot of Jobs!!
My one fuel bill for one month was $750.00 . Of which about 25% was covered, plus the real world cost of traveling to and from the job. So going broke working is hardly intelligent!!
So that comes off of my weekly wages for 3 weeks work a month!! So not making any money that week + does/ did not help me.
Oh and $50.00 of that fuel bill was the Tax on Carbon Dioxide. So I learnt about Carbon Dioxide .

This report was very poorly researched! Making it very obvious that Palki is not very knowledgeable about Germany. E.g. gas prices in Germany are generally and artificially too high for environmental reasons etc.. Thus, farmers were subsidized.

Why to protest for subsidies, why not group and raise farm produce prices. Yes I understand that because of EU, people will import food from neighbouring countries but over period of time Germany will loose its farm independence...as they lost its industries to China....hope they understand.

The thing is the Farmers are paying taxes the so called "subsidies" only reduces the tax burden on them. especially the Tax exemption on Farm Vehicles that use tons of diesel and if taxed fully would bancrupt the farmers. The german agricultural sector would collaps because its very expensive to produce (anything) in germany. And Germany has also a relativly "strict" Law to fight Monopolys and Companys to group up to increase prices to encourage competition.
