Ecuador's president Daniel Noboa has declared his first state of emergency. It follows the news that the dreaded drug lord "Fito", the leader of the gang Los Choneros, has gone missing.
He was supposed to be moved on Sunday but went missing hours before the transfer could happen.
Thousands of police and military personnel are out in the streets to recapture the crime boss.

I am ecuadorian and lived there for 17 years. I left to study in the USA my parents told me to stay but they said open doors to go study anywhere. I left in 2004 i always said this country is not safe and i would never raise a family in ecuador. Lately USA is not that safe either but is far better than ecuador. Now i have 2 daughters and a beautiful wife and i couldnt think how horrible would be to be living there a real hell...i knew daniel noboa and his dad. I hope they do something similar to Honduras and el salvador. They need to clean the streets.
Thank you for your patriotic comment, because in Ecuador unfortunately the level of ignorance fostered by Correa's government makes them think that the past was fantastic with Correa. Thank you that your opinion makes think at international level who is lying. The best thing that has happened to Ecuador is to have President Noboa, because thanks to his economic position he can now provide security for his life and safety, something that Villavicencio could not do and that is why he was assassinated by the Correism.
Economic position, the same thing they used to say about guillermo lasso, he sold the galapagos archipielago, he collect the money and just disappear. Noboa used his banana business to export the drug, that news came from Itali, German, and other European countries. I don't care about the politic, but Correa gave thousands of scholarships for the poor youth to go study in deferent countries, I think that is the way to show how much you your country . . . Today is the day after this news. The whole country was on fire, everyone had to run home from work, kids were picked up early from school. We are all hiding in our homes. My nanny has to stay the night because it's too dangerous for her to go home. It's a battlefield outside. It's only going to get worse before it gets better. All this bc of drugs. Entitled youth's drugs.
