To set it up, you will need to be VERY creative because space is almost non-existent, but this small nyc apartment does have a few things working in its favor! Its in the west village by New york university, and would be a great student apartment or apartment for someone without a whole lot of worldly possessions. Thats really the only use case I can think of for a small new york apartment like this, which is definitely in the running for “smallest new york apartment” of all time because its only 90 square feet. For $1200 there should be a built-in loft that you can sleep in, with stairs, not an oversized shelf. I don't know why, but I love seeing the tiny apartments more than I like seeing the massive ones.
It is unfortunate that there is really nowhere to put a ladder, let alone a staircase that would not block either the front door, sink, or bathroom. Unless it was one of those library ones that roll on a track. I have no idea how people dare to sleep on lofts. I had a big princess bed when I was little, and I woke up between bed and floor most nights. Why my parents could not have put a rail up needs to be discussed in therapy. But I often wonder how many adults are killed falling off of these sleeping shelves...
"oversized shelf"😂😂😂
Yes. Who knows how to build a loft?! I sure don’t.
Check out the bed in creamheros, it’s like a extra high bunk bed & the ladder is on the front of the bed. That would work here. Not hard to build. That said, this video just makes me love my house that much more.

If I had the cash and a high paying job. That'll be a gaming stream setup 😆 just build a storage unit staircase leading up to the loft and having handrails
The bathroom is so huge compared to the main living room.

My ideas are: 1. Pedestal sink storage cabinet. 2. Redo the bathroom: Switch the toilet and shower areas. 3. A rolling ladder for the mini loft that is situated over the kitchen sink/cabinetry area: Telescopic Vertically Stored Steel Sliding Rolling Library Ladder Hardware Track Kit. 4. Compact Refridgerator Mini Fridge with Freezer (to replace that larger fridge). 5.Portable Mini Fridge Organizer to place the microwave and mini fridge with freezer on. 6. Ductless Heating and Cooling System (this system is placed on a upper wall--instead of the heating systems on the lower wall/floor and in the window) for more space capacity. 7. Pullout sectional couch which converts to a bed. 8 and 9. A table folding desk (mostly for dining); and a floating desk (for paperwork purposes); both to be placed along the wall near the entry door. 10. Folding and stackable storage drawer organizer 11. Closet Basket shelf storage bins. (These would be in the loft area). 12. Clothes rack with a canvas cover (this item would have wheels). 13. A dresser that could also serve partially as an entertainment center (i.e., a Soho type dresser). 14. Remove that shelf that is over the microwave. 15. Put an adjustable aluminum window screen in the window. 16. Mini blinds for the window as well. 17. Even though the location is where it is, (McDougal Street, Manhattan, NYC), and because there is no formal kitchen, the list price for this apartment should be about $1060 a month. Just sayin'.
I feel like you really didn't put much thought into that. 😜 Jk'ing. That all sounds brilliant. I'm looking currently to downsize; probably not quite to the extent of this apartment, but still, those are some great ideas.
I don't think u can just switch a toilet and shower that easy.
@@KingSausage74exactly as if a tenant can just remodel a bathroom.🤦🏽♀️🤣
Here is when imagination comes into the picture. :) For some, that apartment would be a palace, for others, a coat closet. I say, as long as you have a place to lay your head at the end of the day, that's home. :)
Well said! We all have different priorities... unfortunately men ( and women of course!) may have been created equal but that,s where the similarity ends. Good luck to all the flat hunters out there!🙂
Living in an RV...you would have similar space and issues with ..what can go where...YET the smaller the RV the better...it's a challenge !!!
coming from one who has lived in a one room 14' x 14' cabin on top a mountain..this is a Palace. Except..my fridge was bigger..lol >
The bathroom was kinda cool. Most apartments that size don’t even have a bathroom.
The bar is in the floor
Always enjoy these apartment viewings! NOW -- one recommendation -- from someone who's lived in Manhattan for 45 years -- living in a tiny apartment like this for a good 10 years prior to graduating to a 1 bedroom, a sofa bed is the ideal way to go for a studio! Having a loft bed would make the place insufferably small and claustrophobic -- be able to treat the space by day as a living area, and by night as bedroom, opening up the sofa bed. It worked fine for me that way -- having friends over -- they're in a living room. At night, opening up the sofa bed, you're in your bedroom. As far as I'm concerned, this is what made NYC life just fine!
Sounds like a plan! I was thinking along the same lines..
Love my futon for the last 11 years.
@@ripmomcovid4678 ... really? A sofabed is more comfortable for sleeping
Exactly!!
Agree, my mother has one in her living room for overnighters. It would be a lot more comfortable than a loft.
this is a crime. just proves that landlords are criminals and yet someone will rent it. love you Jordan.
Commuting back and forth from Connecticut or NJ or Long Island, would cost more than the rent. Another alternative is getting roommates and….When you see it that way, it’s totally worth the extra $300 to have some peace and tranquility.
Not criminals… nobody has to live in downtown NYC.
@@Blanksmithy123 Thank you, someone with some common sense. It's all supply and demand. Literally everyone and their moms want to be in down town NYC and its just not possible. This same people will sell clothes and electronics online and wait for the highest bidder when someone says "if you take off 100 dollars I will buy it right now" lmfao
@@ThisIsntmyrealnameGoogle homes are human rights. Forcing people to die on the streets or make you rich is immoral. It’s not a crime right now because the government doesn’t care if people are treated inhumanely.
But in any kind of a sane society landlords even existing would be illegal.
Nah. It's supply and demand. Plus, I imagine that they have incredibly high property taxes and utility bills. It really just proves people who live in NYC are bad with money.
I’m pretty sure I know this apartment. Years ago (years and years ago) I worked at Panchitos across the street. I knew several people in that building and was so jealous that they were right there in the center of everything. I couldn’t have cared less about the size. Priorities change.
I always wanted a refrigerator in my living room/bedroom, lol. This is a prison and the rent should be no more than $500 a month.
I can see someone renting a tiny room for $200 without all that space hogging fridge and microwave. As for the sink they should have put it in the corner with a corner counter with a deep sink to be able to at least do dishes properly. That would have been considerate to people who are closterphonic.
I thought the same until I saw a sweet place for $385 month rent, but no bath or toilet in unit, SHARED. As in, keep toilet paper next to door for walk down the hall to the group bathroom. NYC is ridiculous.
Makes me grateful to live in. 486sq ft because it’s in a courtyard and has full kitchen, walk in closet, and bathroom with tub. Also have a storm door which I’m happy to have.
This is a prison plus

Considering I lived in a dorm room that size with another person when in college, this on your own with a bathroom is Golden. Lots of potential...small keen appliances like air fryer, crock pot, hot pot, single hot plate...whatever, can ease the cost of eating out. Any place like IKEA has ideas for folding furniture but beware of the assembly. For some items you need a PhD and a handyman.
Sure the rent is crazy but this could make for such a cosy place to come back to after a long day of work. Not to mention, it would be so easy to clean and take care of. If there was an easier way to access the loft storage space, this would personally be an ideal space to live in. We need more tiny apartment tours!
Usually these glorified bedrooms don't have their own bathroom so that's a plus. 😬
More like glorified closets🙃
@SaranghaeBTSDaily I guess it’s like a wet bathroom. Like the ones you find in some small RVs.
@@Ankimbo or in Korea.

I knew it lol
Yeah, they didn't look real!😂
Could you put a mattress on the storage space above the kitchen, attach a barrier so you don't roll off, and use that as a sleeping loft? Use a ladder for access. As for prep space, a rolling kitchen island can be used to prep food, then can be used with a counter height stool as a table, then rolled out the way when not in use.
I've had my share of NYC tiny apts, but this really takes the cake. I doubt if the landlords want you drilling more holes in the walls to affix more shelves or holes drilled in the kitchen countertop to add a drop down table. Cash, you are so funny, you make my whole day with these apt tours. Seriously, you come up with these ideas to try to make a closet into an apt. Everybody mentions a loft bed, and I guess that's a good idea if you don't get up during the night to pee. The fact you can't bend over brushing your teeth would be a deal breaker for me..........omg, when you said that I almost rolled off my chair onto the floor, seriously I was laughing so hard, I couldn't even catch my breath. I have a feeling all the people that said they wouldn't have a problem living like that, probably have never had to. A college student, yeah, I could see that, but I wouldn't want to sign a 10 year lease, although I don't think there are leases in NYC these days more than a year. I think it should come with padded walls, so if you have a meltdown, you don't hurt yourself.
For somebody just starting out in the city, this would be way better than sharing with a roommate you don't like/know and paying virtually the same in this neighborhood. The lack of a sink sprayer, though, is a complete deal-breaker.
Truth is, as a person who started out here pretty poor, living in a tiny place could really depress the life out of you. I lived a couple of subway stops away in Brooklyn in a 2 story brownstone with 2 roommates. We rarely saw each other. I got a back yard and my own large room plus a big shared kitchen and brownstone parlor. I hosted lots of dinner parties there which is something you would struggle to do in a single room.
I’d rather get a roommate and have a regular size kitchen, normal bathroom and normal size bedroom than to live like this. I’d feel to claustrophobic in this small space.
You probably have never heard of using a cup...
I never use my sink sprayer ever
Either you are rich, or never lived in NYC. of course you still need a roommate!
I live in London but NYC is a different planet:) In London room is a room, in NYC room is an apartment.
Honestly that place would be significantly more functional if it didn’t have any of those shelves and you could put up your own but the crepes at that crepe place downstairs are so freaking good
Suggestion, put your bed on the loft shelf and use the apartment space to house a trampoline to jump onto the bed.
A truly uplifting solution.
LMAO
Some thin people may be able to sleep on that large shelf/ledge thing.
would just have to build a little safety thingie so not to roll over and down

for what it's worth, this set up (tiny studio/kitchenette, shower that takes up the entire bathroom) is how a lot of apartments are setup in major cities throughout Asia (Taipei, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, etc).
Good point 👌
Yeah, just saw on my recommends about poor souls trying to survive Covid on the floor of a closet. Keep them in your prayers...people have a hard time all over the world as it is. Weird thing is I could totally live on my own in that little apartment just fine 😂
I love this apt! Jus5 thinking of what I could do with it! I'm only 4ft 8in...I could live there happily, especially since I'm an introvert anyway...I'll probably never get to tho ..since I'm in south GA. But yeah. .it's cute!!!!
Yes, some of the small apartments are ridiculous. No bathroom, no kitchen sink, micro-fridge not provided. This landlord at least made sure that the apartment really is an apartment. Sure, no actual stove, but at least you have a microwave and a bit of counter next to outlets and a sink.
I'm strangely addicted to these vids.... I am British, never been over there but would love to! I rent a lovely apartment in an historic converted cotton mill in north west UK. It has one bedroom on an enclosed mezzanine first floor and a big square sitting room incorporating a small kitchen, all beautifully modern, I also have a spacious decked balcony. The mill has about 360 apartments over 5 floors. 2 mins walk from shops etc and for all this I pay 525 pounds per month! When I see the rental prices there for teeny tiny apartments, I think I'm pretty lucky! I love your brilliant ideas of how to make the most of every bit of space and how you describe the areas in detail. Great fun and interesting to watch! 😀
A small but nice apartment. The people on that neighborhood have their priorities in order. A bong shop,.99 cent pizza store and an urgent care facility all next to ech other. 😂😂😂😂😂 Great tour, Cash.👍👍👍👍
You think it's nice? Proof beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Sorry, but where did you see a nice apartment?
Given what we know about the neighborhood, this type of unit is clearly best suited for a college student. Think about the typical dorm room set up. This offers an upgrade. Instead of splitting a similar sized room with a roommate.....and having to use a communal bathroom. A student would have their own private bedroom, their own private bathroom, and if they add a small two burner hot plate enough leeway with that Kitchenette to cook ramen, oatmeal, scramble some eggs, maybe some quick spaghetti. All for $1200. If you do the math on what they'd be paying to room on campus, at best the price would be equal, and most likely higher.........and they would still be sharing a room and bathroom with other people. Working adults would obviously be better served with a more spacious unit.
It would be good for a newbie to NY, just starting out who doesn't have a lot of anything except a job.
@@mircat28 Exactly, the private bathroom, micro-fridge, and sink with small counter allow it to manageable, especially with the little bit of loft space for clothes. It's probably not a great space for a young woman obsessed with fashion and having a large wardrobe, but fine for someone who is more minimalist in lifestyle.
You know the apartment is small when the intro is half the video...
Our apartment has small rooms. So I bought my son a loft bed, it’s high enough for him to put his toy box & desk under it. It has 4 shelves to help store his stuff. We mounted his tv, so he can lay or sit in bed & watch tv. He has amazing space

Hi from the UK! Been to New York many times and absolutley love it. Born and raised Londoner so I know all about crazy accommodation prices but this is a shocker. The room itself definitely has potential with a loft bed and clever furniture placement, the bathroom is workable and the location excellent, but it should be illegal to charge $1200 for something that small. $500 would be more suitable.
The price is definitely the shocking part. I realize for NY, it's cheap compared to what larger apartments go for, but my home is 10-12x the size and costs the same per month on the mortgage. Ridiculous when you think about it.
This is the FIRST time I've ever thought I could live in NYC, because the neighborhood is great. Tiny doesn't bother me... but $1345/mo? You guys are INSANE. No stove, no bed loft, virtually no storage , no TUB. How the hell do people afford that city? And I thought a one-bedroom in central Florida for $800 was nuts. No wonder so many people are leaving America. Who can afford to live here anymore?
And they are moving to where?

The prices and sizes are probably similar to downtown NYC if you live in downtown Tokyo. However I live just on the outskirts and it’s so much cheaper and more spacious. Rentals as well as purchasing homes/condos. I’ve been here going on 35 years. I’ll never move back to the US

I would put a small folding leaf table with folding chairs. . Also next to the fridge a rolling wardrobe with shelves. I would pur baskets on the shelves. I would put some kind of ladder with steps that I would bolt to the wall and use the loft for off season storage items, Seaonal decor, etc. I would also get a small coffee table that can raise up to different heights. I would get a comfortable folding chair with cushions and a wall lamp for the living space. A lot of shelves in every space, and on the loft. I would also store a folding table and chairs in the loft.

You could consider that bathroom as a "wet" room which is prevalent in tiny homes, r.v.'s and such. With some hard won "3 dimensional" thinking "outside the box", it's doable...if you must live in that part of town.
See, the thing about living in a van is, you have access to the outdoors to expand your living space, and you own the van.
In college all you need is water, microwave And ramen to survive

New york born and raised I would never live in a apartment that small can't live like that!!
I came to this video right from one of a guy living in an 80 sq. ft. apt. in downtown NY for $385. He has to share a bathroom but he can see the Empire State Building from his window. He’s made great use of his space and even has a 50” TV on the wall!
For tiny apartments, I would invest in an air ionizer machine to keep the room smelling clean even if you cook within the unit. I would raise the bed on a platform that I will use as closet and use the loft above as a storage space. A work desk that could double as a small dining table could still be very well be accommodated in the room.
I love that the apartment has its own bathroom.
The bathroom is a huge plus! I could make that place work.
haha...put up a flip countertop for kitchen YES! also acts as an added security feature!
I could make it work. I've been watching videos like this for fun and I've discovered my only 100% deal breaker is shared bathroom and this prevents that
I'd choose this over a 180 square feet room in a "shared" apartment.
Absolutely NO location is worth that much for that little. NOWHERE!!! But, it’s still fascinating to see the full range of what’s out there, where, and for how much. So keep ‘em coming!
I love it... '5 flights of stairs which basically means you have a free gym membership'... There's your silver lining!
So I’ve been eyeing this apartment for a few weeks now on Street Easy, and now I see EXACTLY why it’s still available 😂😂😂
This apartment would make a perfectly sized walk-in closet.
It costs about 18k per year (9-months) at NYU for room and board, but that includes breakfast/lunch/dinner, gym, security, lounges, game rooms, etc.
For this prison cell box it'll cost you about 16k per year (12 months).
But prison has three hots and a cot. The dorm might be a better deal.
@@thoughts3897 The dorm compared to this is definitely better. Besides the meals and gym, you get a bed, desk, wardrobe and dresser. Access to a world class library and computers.
Then if someone stays here, if they even eat the minimum of about $10/meal, 3x per day they'd spend an extra $10k per year, so they're WAY over an NYU dorm price for room and board.

Damn, $28 for that buffalo chicken ranch pizza! That's insane!
Lol that what's i though. Havent been eating out for a while in NYC.
@@drewh3224: not as insane as this apartment.
@@eattherich9215 True that!
People need to stop being so damn lazy and learn to cook. Sheesh.
Was thinking the same thing! Even for NY prices that seems high.
i wouldn’t pay $300 a month to live here
Me neither.
Loft bed, with a couch under it, a desk at the end. Definitely lots of storage area. A minimalists dream. I like it.
Bruh the bathroom is literally the classic 3 tiles bathroom in the sims 4 😂😂
A loft bed with a desk underneath is good. Clothes hanging bar in the corner. Induction "burner" next to the sink... doesn't get hot, just gets your pot hot. Or use an instant pot exclusively. No TV. But a nice big computer screen and comfy desk chair. Origami (brand name) folding cart for eating and a couple of camp, folding chairs for cards 🙂
I was also thinking no TV, just a monitor or computer. Personal preference of course. But I'd be willing to sacrifice the space needed for a bigger TV and allocate it to some other purpose.
I bought a cool gadget that boils eggs. It is really small and would fit right there. Economical protein, and you would only have to cook once a week!
“100% Gluten fed , grass free” 👀🤣🤣🤣
I grew up in NY and worked at the Olive Tree back in the late 70's...Rents were nothing in this area back then! Mind blowing what they're able to charge for this little thrown together renovated closet!! Jeez.
A sofa bed, adjustable height coffee table. Shelves to the ceiling with a library ladder that rolls. The area above the kitchen would be storage for less used items. By the time I get home from work, I just want to eat, watch tv and sleep.
If I were a college student this might be a good alternative to a dorm room. I'd use the loft for storage and have a single bed that doubled as a couch to sit on. Next to the fridge I'd have a narrow table and chair as my workspace with a wall-mounted TV. Since almost none of my clothing needs to hang, I'd fit in a few shelves for that. There's a fellow on RUclips that has a place even smaller than this with a shared hall bath, and he's got everything he needs, so this one should be easy. I suppose the ridiculously high price is because of the location.
This place has a ton of potential! You just need imagination! Find out how much weight that loft can hold, and you may have a bed option right there. Otherwise, a loft bed would be perfect.
I’d move the fridge over 2 feet and put the microwave on top of one of those floating shelves. A single burner hot plate that you store in the base cabinet, as well as a small crockpot can complete the kitchen. Instead of attaching a foldable counter section to the entrance side of the counter, an IKEA mobile butcher block island would be better, and will give more storage as well.
In the bathroom, I’d put up attention bar almost over the toilet for the shower curtain, it would give you more room compared to where the existing bar is now.
Another option for sleeping is a Japanese style futon mattress. It can be put in the loft during the day, and pulled down to the floor at night...
But, at least it has a private bathroom!!
(This place is three times the size of my “office” at home... I work out of a 5X6 “closet”...)
Yes it has potential... needs a bit of creativity... and a bit more cash! Could be quite cosy...
Have you ever lifted a japanese futon mattress? They are heavier than a spring mattress!
crock pot!!!! yesssss!!!!!!
and a DreamPot (Australian invention) very efficient.
i've seen on Amazon, these futon/bunk bed combos...& a trunk for a coffee table=storage?...a coatrack/boot/uMbrella stand/holder by the door...sleeping up on that 'loft' would be suicide cos if you move in your sleep you end up on the floor & that's quite a fall..they really should have put doors on it for a closet..as is it's good for holding standing plastic shelves, like one for bathroom linens & one for bed linens? would need a ladder or high step stool to get to them though which will end up being a royal pain in the arse..& kitchen needs at least one bakers rack on wheels for the microwave & coffee pot & hot plate & crock pot(an instapot is best cos it does more things) a second bakers rack could hold foodstuffs & dishes..there are a lot of combos one can make out of the cube storage containers, you can buy as many of them as you need & stack em artistically & they look like furniture..the room is wide enough for all that..but the bathroom..that is a problem...don't slip cos no matter what direction ya fall in yer gonna hit yer head on something hard..can't miss em......me personally..i give this one a pass..it will drive ya crazy in a few months
If you don't mind sleeping on concrete then a futon is fine. Just have a mattress on the floor.
Why doesn't anybody talk about daybed? You can sit on them in the day, sleep on them at night, get rolling storage containers and roll them under the daybed. That could solve a lot of space issues. Store tv trays under the daybed too so you have something to eat on.
This price for this storage room is totally outrageous. You should come show apartments in Nebraska and see what $1200 will get you.
That is basically an SRO room with a private bath. That rent amount is WAY overpriced. Here in Vancouver, Canada something like this rents for $ 800.00 - again overpriced, but I guess better than having a roommate or shared washrooms. Lose those shelves and get a couple of tall bookcases/wardrobes from Ikea with doors to store your clothes and other belongings. Twin bed, one comfy chair and a small table/desk to work & eat on. Get a hotplate & a toaster oven along with microwave to do some cooking. Not a place you would want to live long term, but if location is everything you could make this work for awhile.
That bathroom is crazy. A disaster waiting to happen lol😄
I thought so too
Bed on loft, little dresser. Little sofa, TV tables, pantry stand up shelf. TV hung on the wall.
This is the exact size of my bedroom. And this depressed me...the thought of living my life only in my bedroom. But then I saw the bathroom, which reminded me of camping. Most camper/travel trailers have "wet baths", which is what this bathroom basically is. I could actually have fun with this, pretending to be camping all the time, something I love to do whenever I can. It's just sad that people are robbing others for a basic human necessity...shelter. It's sad.
Yes, the price is what is hard to swallow. Should be $500 max.
Would love to see how someone could make the most of this space. Maybe a Murphy bed?
I think this would work for someone who's homeless looking for housing & wants to stay out of the shelter system
For 1233 i doubt it
With DeBlacksio in the office, homeless would not want to live in such a tiny condition. They are living in the luxury hotels!!
No way, De Blasio has made sure NYC's homeless are given luxury hotels, paid for taxpayers who also pay market rents....
I love that you have to climb up on the window to turn the AC on or off or move it every time you wanna sit on the fire escape lol
Used to live in a 5th floor on this block. The Ethiopian joint in the basement of my building saved my cat and returned him to me after he clawed through my window screen and jumped down to the street from the fire escape. Just checked google maps and I'm so happy to see they're still in business. Blessings to Meskerem Ethiopian Cuisine, and to the brave soul who rents this shoebox!
Too bad it doesn't have a sink sprayer. That would be the deal breaker. But the bathroom does have a medicine cabinet!
I know!
I'm speechless. To think someone would actually list this shoebox. Did I see correctly, someone decided hey let's just take the toilet and the sink and stick it in the shower and call it the bathroom.
This SRO is a bit on the small side. A futon , a coffee table & a 2 burner hot plate 7 shower curtain is all need, However the bathroom the most interesting feature of the space.
First video I’ve watched of yours. I love your personality! As someone who doesn’t live in NY it was nice you took time to show us the actual surroundings. New sub.
