I found the DFI Lan Party boards to be the best with s939 processors. Good stability when overclocking and solid drivers. The X2 4200 was about equivalent to the single core 3700+, but performed much better in multithreaded tasks. The X2 4400 with the larger cache was a much better performing CPU. I appreciate you showing the AGP issue for Nvidia 3 chipsets. I never personally experienced it as I had PCI-E cards. I've been meaning to grab an AGP version someday as s939 cpu's are a personal favorite. Good video!

THank you. The DFI LP are absolute monsters :) 754 and 939. After reading long forgotten threads I discovered that a motherboard with 939 socket and AGP and a multi core cpu are just not a match with Vista or 7.(I haven't done any tests for a single core though) The results are low including the Asrock motherboards branded VSTA. I plan to continue with this subject on a much simpler scale (since I went overboard with the numbers here) and only for Intel CPUs as I suspect that this situation (Vista/7 > XP) repeats with other CPUs as well.

Excellent, would like to see the same tests with a 800 MHz FSB P4 taking advantage of that PC3200 memory ! nforce3 issue was new on me, good to know 👌

I'm pretty sure the bigger P4 would just confirm that 7/Vista are better. It's not limited to just nForce 3. nForce 2,3,4 all create issues on Vista/7. I have tried the experiment with nForce4 and the same X2 CPU on Win7 and the result was similar, I really hope to get to the bottom of this some day. I do plan to get a socket 775, nForce 4 and try the same approach with a P4 or a Pentium D but I'm not sure that going deeper exploring a issue is that helpful. After all it's more important to see where this behaviour where WIndows 7 gets better benchmark results stops, what's the first CPU where VIsta/7 are no longer faster.

@@retrodrive-thru47 Thanks for answer, seems win7 just a faster OS providing adequate memory is present !

@@agenda697 well, don't take my word for it :)), although I'm 99% sure that if you are not using an nforce chipset, for any 800fsb P4 you are going to get the same result as me here. My goal would be to see where the cpu frequency makes xp faster. Microsoft says the minimal requirements are 1ghz and 1gb ram for 7 ( and I guess Vista as well) so that is my target. (pentium 3 or the original athlon territory)

interesting videos and interesting conclusions… 🤔

I had the same reaction when someone tested the core2duo under similar circumstances. I always thought that it's the features/services of winxp and afterwards win7 that will hold them back. I never thought that the older Operating Systems had memory leaks or issues. I have repeated this procedure for many other systems since this clip, and as long as you don't use an Nvidia chipset the conclusions from this clip stand at least until a 1.6ghz cpu, 1gb ram and at least a geforce fx 5700.

GREAT job & Analysis.. You even investigated fraps hit on FPS & Nvidia issues!!
I remember Silent Hill 2 needed to set the affinity to 1 core on windows XP ! also StarCraft needed explorer.exe to be terminated in order to run correctly in windows 7.
Just for kick, Can you add this to the test? I burned it to a DVD using ultraIso then tried booting form an old Acer Aspire 4720 laptop which is my current device therefore I didn't proceed with installation. (Will try after buying a compatible SSD that support SATA2 controller in BIOS)
    W11_X-Lite_22621_1778_Ultimate_11_Neon_FBConan
It should install in MBR normally & take around 240mb of ram at idle "if" total capacity is 2GB.. on idles at 1GB at capacity of 6GB & beyond !

Wow, Windows 11. I will sure try.
The goal of this series was to start (in pairs) from a P3 550Mhz (and an Athlon550) , then move to a P4 1300 sk 423 (it's pair being an Athlon 1333), then we have this episode, then move to a Pentium D(Here I will try to make the Athlon X2 work) and conclude this series with a Core2Duo (but this is the least watched clip so I moved to some other topics). The goal would be to see what was the ideal operating system for benchmark and I'm pretty sure that for the Intel chipsets even the socket 423 P4(I plan to give it 1Gb RDram) will confirm that it's Windows7. The nVidia chipsets(nforce2,3,4) are a big problem when it comes to any operating system beyond XP I just need to confirm that their problem is contained for an X2 cpu and the regular single core Athlon doesn't take the same performance hit in Vista/7.
As for windows 11 (if you watched the windows evolution on this channel) you probably know that the lowest CPU that can reach W11 is a cedar mill. This is a more distant plan of mine, to have a Cedar Mill cpu tested from 98 to W11 but it will take so much time... (I also need to find an AMD equivalent as the first A64 does support 64bit instructions but W11 needs a more advanced variation of these because a regular A64 939 or the AM2 A64 will not upgrade to W11).

Yeah, JUST NOW I managed to install The iso on the Acer Aspire Laptop...
It didn't like Samsung SSD !!!
      Samsung has poor or
No backwards compatibility with older BIOS SATA controller.
however an intel SSD worked !
A no brand name called Kingspec also works.
      Specs:
      Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 (1.66Ghz, 2MB, 667Mhz FSB)
      2GB DDR2
It idles at ~820mb (not as advertised)
      Task manager Alone ~34mb & 12% CPU
For now turned off transparency which is shocking that it runs since it couldn't support windows 7 Aero effects!
