      Yeah don't think I've ever gotten to turn 100 as Drycha in any Warhammer game because you just become too good by then, nothing the enemy sends at you can defeat your armies. I still really enjoy her faction though as I like the tree spirit units the best and it's in a unique location for Wood Elves.

      To be honest you don't even really need treeman stacks any more. Dryads can be the bulk of your force up to about turn 90, it's absolutely ages before you start meeting any factions that have a good answer to them (Dryads are probably the best tier 1 infantry in the game, basically only Khorne has a good early answer), and when you do Tree Kin can pick up the slack for less than Treemen. Just have 3 or so Treemen for the mortis engine and use Tree Kin with Wardbark on the lord and watch them never ever die to anything.

    Important to note with Drycha is the malevolent treemen lords that she uses. They have unique skills for her faction and are different depending on their magic. For example, the shadow treelords get the insidious glamor ability as well so they're a lot better for grabbing elf units if and when you decide to do so.
    There's also a tech that eliminates the upkeep raise for elf units from the faction trait, so in the late game it can become useful/important to have some elves in your armies. Otherwise you have a bit of a Ghorst situation where your pretty strong armies end up getting a touch hand from the auto resolve mechanic

    I am immensely pleased you cover Drycha and start a discussion about her, even if it was brief, Legend.
    "Wisdom of the Cypress" Should become your first pick. Here is why:
    Gain +5 additional Forest Health for razing Heathlands
    Fire resistance: 25% for Dryad, Tree Kin and Treeman units
    Vigour loss reduction: -25% for melee infantry units
    "Wisdom of the Cypress" decreases the time you need to gain forest health so you can begin healing rituals quicker to earn Amber and research the best technologies faster.

  • @boomknight1015

    Drycha has the special effect of her tree units get frenzy, that is the only change they get from other woodelf factions but it makes her units roll over inf super easily thanks to ignoring. +10 attack out of no where really pushes some units high enough to be disgusting. She is the easiest to play and steam roll at the coast of having to deal with not only major threats but over all not being safe at all. With out walls it's really hard to hold onto her stuff. Most of her struggles is on the campaign map and almost none of it is on the battle map.

  • @AshenVictor
    @AshenVictor Год назад +3

    My opening as Drycha is pretty similar to what it was in 2. Start out by smashing the Skaven and carry on to the two minor Ostermark provinces, go back and deal with the first forest event and finish off the Treehammers (you end up neutral with Talabecland because you killed trespassers but trespassed yourself), then lurk in ambush near where the vampire event spawns to catch Ostermark's army which will force march. Once you've killed that Ostermark will peace out, that means you don't go north to Bechafen and means you don't meet Kislev early. After that go and smash Vlad to get Drakenhof (quite a lot of those 10% global income for racial capitals are gone, but Drakenhof still has it).
    By this point you can probably get another army to go over and slap Festus on your way to claiming Laurelorn Forest and go south to grab Forest of Gloom before the Dwarfs do.
    Use gifts to keep Karak Kadrin sweet and that will piss off Zhufbar which gives you a target for your three wins vs Dwarfs to confederate Durthu. Nobody else cares what happens to them.
    The other thing to remember is that any settlement that doesn't have a trade resource is useless to you. You can get a lot of money blowing them up, but you can get replenishment and some money by occupying them for a turn then selling them to someone. This also makes basically anyone you want to buddy up with absolutely love you.
    Selling off all your trash settlements also means that you have no weak targets nearby for the AI to attack, which means it just gives up and sulks because tree garrisons are big and scary and it doesn't like fighting them.

    This is speaking from experience from playing her in WH2, as I haven’t done her campaign in WH3 yet, but Drycha technically has three different campaigns depending on who the player wants to ally with.
    Despite being the evil tree spirit, Drycha is still a wood elf faction and really only cares for the forest area. So you can still make friends with the surrounding factions if you want. If the player focuses south to fight the vampires, Drycha can easily make peace with the Empire. Likewise, focusing on killing off the surrounding Elector Counts will gain a lot of favor with the Vampires.
    Of course, you could stick to Drycha being the evil “Grandma with a Shotgun” who just wants to kick everyone off her lawn and destroy everyone around her forest lol.

      Making friends with The Empire or Dwarves can be a really good idea thanks to the alliance mechanics of WH3. Get them to become your ally and build an outpost and you can add some of the best artillery in the game to your roster. Personally, I think Cannons/Great Cannons are an excellent addition to a Wood Elven army, since they don't have any artillery normally.

  • @bathroomlew

    Also, she's a great option for a co-op with a Vampire Counts faction since her settlement gives her armies immunity to vampire attrition.
    How could you not mention the Forest Spirits more? Getting them Feral Manticores doomstacks or Wolves and Spiders with poison as auxilaries, or that in WH3 aside from regular bears, she can also easily get the Polar variant now with frost debuff on attacks as well by traveling to Kislev land.

    There so much that you forgot to mention here, Legend.
    1. Lords. Drycha doesn't get Spellweavers and (IIRC) Glade Lords. She gets Malevolent Ancient Treemen, which have three schools of magic to choose from - Life, Shadow and Beasts. This means that all technologies that have to do with High or Dark Magic are useless to her (CA, FIX IT FFS).
    2. Heroes. Drycha doesn't get Spellsingers. She gets Malevolent Branchwraiths, also with Life, Shadow and Beasts to choose from.
    3. Malevolent Treemen. Drycha gets them at Tier4, which means you get to your endgame doomstack that much faster. These treemen are much stronger than those of other WE factions, as they get Frenzy, choice of Aspect and multiple additional skills/technologies, like the Amber tech which gives them poison and the other one that gives them Muster of Spites (permanent 4dps to every enemy unit around).
    4. Forest Spirits roster. For Drycha, this is effectively a cheat machine to generate OP units in crazy amounts from Turn 1. Two main positions in the roster are worth looking at:
    - Wolves are effectively a Tier 2/3 light/medium cavalry that can stalk with one of the technologies. Crazy strong against anything unarmored. They have nothing in common with all the other similar units of other factions, which are essentially equivalent to bats, i.e. absolute garbage. No no no no, these doggos are pack a punch and can chew lighter enemy formations like crazy. Give them stalk and feed them with enemy archers and artillery crews. They also chase very effectively as their animations are short and allow them to attack escaping enemies much more effectively than e.g. cavalry units can.
    - Bears are just fucking OP, they're essentially Dragon Ogres with 75% of the stats at 50% of the cost, recruitable immediately, everywhere. They are your one-stop-shop for solving any large-sized enemy unit problem until late game, where you'll be solving them with Treemen. Early game ogre units, chariots, cavalry, skaven pump wagons, large and mounted enemy lords/heroes? Nothing but bear food.

    Question about the extra Amber Drycha is granted: With Immortal Empires, aren't there already enough forest settlements available that you could get all the Amber needed by default, without the extra one? Wouldn't that leave you with excess Amber?

    • @Johann_Gambolputty_of_Ulm
      @Johann_Gambolputty_of_Ulm Год назад +7

      Everybody has too much Amber - there are 10 trees to heal on IE map in total, while standard WE tech tree has 8 positions locked behind Amber cost. Drycha's tree actually has 10 techs - so in total she has smaller overspill than others. In her case, the benefit is more about getting some strong benefits from Turn1, instead of waiting quite some turns to complete your first ritual

  • @Archer3051
    @Archer3051 Год назад

    Just started a Drycha campaign, and it felt like heading south and then going counter-clockwise is the best start. If you're going to try to be diplomatic with the Order factions, you can't "farm" Ostmark for Hearth points like some other WE factions - you'll lose too much rep. Also, by the time you get up to Bechafen, you can sometimes encounter Cathay caravans from minor Cathay factions, which you can attack for some nice bonus money. Made 60k in two turns. While you're up there in the north, the Vamps won't be able to resist declaring war on you, possibly taking your southern settlements, which you can re-conquer for more Hearth points. Hopefully taking out Vlad and Azhag will earn me enough street cred that Empire/Kislev won't declare war on me on sight.

    Is it still so that you cannot get Coedil by confederating Drycha? And if so, can you bypass it by loading Coedil from another save?

    when i play sisters of twilight i tend to give all my surroundings to some dark elf faction to ally with them
    so they can protect my borders (malekith or morathi or both)
    i dunno if you can do the same with drycha

      You can do something similar here, give Mordheim to Ostermark in exchange for peace. I play normal-normal though, not sure if it works on higher difficulty.

      It's really, really easy to make peace with and ally the Empire. Takes some work to get Kislev on board, but it you hammer the Vamps and Azhag, everyone loves you.

    Very easy campaign, Drycha is powerful and it's easy to spam forest units and roll over the map.

    Drycha is super annoying as an AI faction. Her, the vampires and Festus totally demolish the Empire if the player doesn't step in. In my recent Kislev campaign I basically spent the first 50 turns beating those three up to stabilize the empire before I could start going on the offensive in the north. Otherwise they would have snowballed into almost unstoppable forces.
