It will forever be strange to me that Drycha, a free LL, has a nice thematic campaign with her own unique lords and unique variants of tree units AND her own legendary hero. Yet premium Mother Ostankya is a rip-off of Drycha with many of the same units but no effort put into making unique lords or variants for her. How is it that a free lord from 3 years ago had more effort put into them than a paid lord from the most expensive DLC yet?
Free? I swear Drycha was we are sorry for making you pay for wood Elves for 4 years then make you buy another DLC....

Drycha's faction shows everything they should have done for Stanky. Even down to the fact that she lives in forests near Kislev.
Drycha does not come with any unique lords, she does have a legendary hero like Gor-Rok. But just like Gor-Rok she didn't come with any new units or unique camping mechanics. Which mother O does

I'll never get over how Ostankya can't recruit Kossars with spears but she can recruit the Tzarina's SECRET POLICE/ on top of the ice court as well. Such half assed dlc.
I've always thought that Katarin and Kostaltin should have gotten a different version of the Ice Court. Katarin for Ice Witches/Frost Maidens and Kostaltin for Boyars/Patriarchs.
It's weird that Ostankya didn't get a generic hag lord as well, the hag lords and heroes could have fit into her own version of the Ice Court.
Watch them add those Hag Lords in the last patch WH3 like they did with Bray-Shaman Lords for WH2. :^)
Even if some reason there just CAN'T be Hag Lords, all of Kislev should have a ranged Ungol Lord. That would fit Ostankya just fine. Even just he Ice Witches are better than the Boyars, to go with the magical wise woman aesthetic.
You could probably take the hag witch and just slap a red and blue line in there, done. Half baked, but better then boyars leading hords of beasts and critters
Or at least make an Akshina Ambusher lord like the huntsmarshalls from the Empire, that would at least make a little more sense then Bojars wich are the Nobilty of Kislev not some forest dewelers.
Not sure stripping Morathi out of anything is a smart plan.

The fact that they had the audacity to recycle mechanics, no new hag lore, no hag witch generic lord, just a lousy boyar, it is clear they cut corners cause of the planned release date .... and then charge us 25$ for it and then when we said fuck off, they basically said buy it or else we cut the support for the game, says a lot about how disconnected CA is from their customers, yeah CA we get it, costs are up...problem is EVERYONE'S costs are fucking up as well, you think people can afford to pay almost half of a full game for something that is worth maybe like a tenth of it?
Imagine thinking that you as a company that is dependant on the people buying your product to survive, think even for a second that you have the power over us. I am really curious to see how recieved their next instalments are after this complete and utter fiasco
You still have white knights defending CA and the game, you still have thousands of people who bought it. It doesn't matter how much disrespect their dealer gives them, just as long as they get their TW fix they'll pay 150% more than the normal price.

Honestly, that was probably the original plan. It was going to be the normal price with Yuan and the Changeling with ostankya as FLC then some greedy exec said "Charge them for it"
@Adrian-gp4mm While she does feel like this in terms of what her campaign offers, she did get more content than a normal FLC as she got actual units that were not just reskins of other units. I'm not saying that was enough to make the DLC premium, but it does at least mean the normal DLC should be more than it was previously.
Tretch didn't come with all the unique mechanics like Mother O and he certainly didn't give you any new units

Even if you don't buy the DLC you may have to suffer through CA's design choices with this one.
The AI as this faction is an absolute nightmare to fight against - they make stacks full of Ambushers (with freaking SNIPE they get from a tech) and save up all of their curses to spam on the player. When you fight them, every one of their units is going to be blessed while every one of yours is cursed. It's absurd.

Started an Anar campaign the other day and Malekith is currently very busy being topped by Valkia and the Sisters of Twilight, so I was gonna go kill some time by burning down the Chicken Hut and smooshing Morathi into goop
But I REALLY don’t wanna deal with Drycha 2.0 when I’m halfway across the world
I fought her fairly early on in a Morathi campaign and she had 1/3 of her army turn into elemental bears when they died, among many other buffs/curses. It was absolutely retarded.

It makes my blood boil to see how little and how unfinished we got for such an expensive price. I'll be playing BG3 and other crpgs as I've discovered how much I like them, and got a bunch of them.
The Kislev side reeks (More than the other two) of "We ran out of budget before finishing the DLC, just throw together what we have and sell that".
it really sounds like she was supposed to be a flc lord (in that short story it's yuan bo vs changeling, so they were obviously the main rivals of this dlc), so some greedy exec said not to put any additional work to it, and then another greedy exec decided to make her part of the dlc to make a weak ass excuse about the rising prices to everyone who can't count, but since the faction was "completed" in its barebones flc state they decided to not put any more work into it. pity, bcos kislev is my fav faction in wh3, i'm easter european and i look *exactly* like mother ostankya, she was my fav

Yeah, this is my take, too. This character was clearly built as an FLC, has about the same amount of content as Imrik and Alith, and then they decided to stuff her into the paywall
You can actually use Jinxed Land Hex empowered version to teleport enemy armies to the magical forest of your choosing, basically eliminating any resistence from enemy legendary lords as Ostankya can simply teleport them, thus they have to crawl back from the other side of the map.
Could have sworn the basic version of the hex only effects mother stanks army and the empowered version works on all your armies. Never actually tried it on an enemy, huge if true

I've been boycotting this game since immortal empires launched and all their patches were antifun measures.
First DLC I haven’t bought for the game. I uninstalled it and moved on to other games like BG3 and I play Medieval when I get the itch. CA isn’t even trying anymore, they’re actively spitting in the fans faces. Corporations only self reflect and change through overwhelming backlash and lack of profits, history has shown it to be so. I highly doubt CA lose enough money to turn it around though lol

Another thing to note is that there is a tech that lets you send ANY army to a magical forest, not just friendly. I kept sending Vlad or one of his supporting armies to Lustria every 5 turns and just conquered sylvania uncontested. He probably spent the remainder of the game trying to walk back.
Honestly the mental image of that is hilarious. Especially if he gets back just to be sent on a vacation to Brazil yet again.
The advantage of Akshina Ambushers is that they have the same upkeep as Streltsi but are better in every aspect (literally)
i like how the kislev lord can travel to forests with less of a cooldown than the wooldelfs can without the worldroots cleared event
As a wood elf main this triggers me immensely.
tbh i feel she should have her own ice court with witches as the result of the training, thatd make a lot more sense, also maybe some bewitched boyars like drycha has with her elves but then she would just copy drycha

For some reason I'm missing the whole witches hut button in my ui. I haven't been able to use any of her faction mechanics. Does anyone else have this bug
Coming back to this after getting my hopes up for the alleged apology update that Creative Assembly is planning for Shadows of Change to double check mechanics on Ostankya since I hard passed on SoC. Hopefully if CA adds more units with the SoC update they fix some of the holes in the line-up like throwing generic Hag Lords into the mix. I would *love* if they added some thematic artillery to her (maybe with them already ripping off Grom with the Cauldron they could steal Arachnarok Spiders from Skarsnik) like giant spiders that shoot giant web bombs or something. Anything with more accessibility than Little Groms since Tier 4 can feel like it takes forever to get to with Kislev at times.
Clearly it's up to Boris to enlighten Ostankya with War Bear Riders, but getting to her to confederate her (if her AI doesn't perish to Morathi or something) feels like a rough time for the other Kislev factions with how much is going on in their main regions compared to her easier time conquering a small patch then teleporting to Drycha.
They could have really gone the full Drycha route and reskinned some units, swap out the Boyar for something like an Ungol Chieftain, change up some skills (and maybe give him a giant spider mount instead of a bear, a chariot, maybe even a mammoth to push some Norsca parallels!) just like how Malevolent Treemen are slightly different to regular Ancient Treemen. Then done the same to the Ice Witch and Frost Maidens to give them some scary woods theming and it would have alleviated so much of the weirdness of this campaign. All the complaints are spot on, this just looks unfinished!
And if they had gone the Drycha route you would instead gripe about her faction being a Kislivite rip off of Drychas.
So i watched cause i was curious and:

The real issue for me was no melee wendigo units, huge missed opportunity to make some terrifying dryad-type Beast magic units.
I played a Kostaltyn campaign and it was alot more fun because of akishinas being available early
I just dropped my money for the Cyberpunk expansion instead. Maybe CA will care with the next expansion but I am not holding my breath.

It’s my favorite lord from the dlc so far. I am enjoying the campaign. I like the teleport.
I found out that after the recent patch, AI tend to cancel agreement if you are not continually improving your relationship with them. this is quite annoying especially when u are fighting on multiple fronts, i got all my agreements cancelled with mazdamundi once when I was playing as ostankya and the relationship dropped to negative, I was forced to take him down because I felt I was threatened by him

Legend puts in more work than the entire Total War team.
As ever, it isn't fair to pin it all on the team - we don't know how much time, team members and investment they had. If it's anything like how the parasite execs squeeze customers, they were probably cut very low.

I am curious. If the buildings are blocked off for you, can you get access to main Kislev roster by confederating other Kislev factions and inheriting their military buildings or are these buildings autimatically destroyed on confederation?
You'd have them unlocked before you can confederate them
They get destroyed. The same thing happens when you Confederate Avalorn, the building that recruits tree spirits is destroyed.

just finished the ostankya campaign and while personally I do enjoy it, it is weird, I didnt have the kislev units for over 100 turns bc you start so far and I burned the chaos wastes to the ground to get there
Ostankya ROC campaign was quite fun, being surrounded by Chaos factions
been waiting for a few mods to tweak some things. the shamen lord by dread just came out so that will fix the limited lord option. and there is a mod that moves her starting location. along with a few others that will make her creatures unique to her coming soon.
Would love to see a Ostankya banner tier list but that might be kinda niche content.
Bigest fail was t0 Kossars still recruitable and Akshina at t2. Nice Job CA, Ill ranged spam as Kislev yet again.
I have a lot of fun with her campaign but I put limits on myself with the damage curses because I easily beat a strong stack against Karl Franz with just a basic settlement garrison 🤦♂️ I used the slow speed and damage while moving on him, his army was all but dead before they got to my cav (I hide the rest of the army) and just ran corner to corner until he died (I think he broke infact but yeah)
No mention of malediction of ruin 😢
While the community ignores this DLC the legend promotes it!

i dont think you mentioned the empowered versions of her campaign curses much. the empowered version of the yeet an army can do it to ANY army so you can send a difficult army to the far side of the world, or if you have vision, bring one to you to maybe kill for a defeat trait.
The absence of hag witch lords does make sense lorewise, they are not exactly leaders of their communities. But it would make sense to have an Ungol lord like huntsman general for Empire.
And hag witches using old Wind lores just makes no sense, they should have gotten their own lore of magic because they are not Wind casters. They use spirits to cast magic for them. In RPG they have their own lore.
yeah, they should add a different type of general, a wayfarer, an explorer, an archer general, like for the empire, it is not that complicate to add.
Looks like we need to wait for modders to finish CA's work...

All three LLs needs more units to make the entire DLC worthy. But of all of them it's Ostankya that desperately needs more units. A proper thematic generic lord option and two more units would be the bare minimum,
What really annoyed me about this campaign was that I felt like you had to craft a dozen hexes each turn to maximize your usage of the mechanics and progress. It was kind of grindy to click a bunch of times after every turn. The hexes are also something that you don't use at all for 90% of battles then use them to automatically win a hopeless battle by making all the AI units degen. They really should have thought up a better system for this.
What surprises me the most is how people were asking for a new Cathay melee hero. Then we get a melee lord in place of Cathay and a Hag hero in the place of Kislev. It's just so backwards
Y when i 1st time saw gate captian i expect him to be hero and still dont get why he is lord option...
To be fair people were also asking for a melee Cathay generic lord. Celestial General was not a wrong choice, not giving a generic lord and a generic hero for all three races in this lord pack isn't right, especially at this price.
@@zahel8516 Totally agree, they should have reskinned the Hag for an extra lord and the CGeneral as an extra Hero for very little work.
If you listen to the leech / suit who runs Destiny 2's model, it may be that they intentionally made this a shit DLC so that we wouldn't have high expectations in the future.
I find CDwarfs overpriced and haven't bought them, but it is undeniable that they seem to be a VERY well designed race.
People constantly compare/contrast Shadows of Change to them, so CA execs may have tried to temper expectations / intentionally F this DLC here.

It sounds good, other then being stuck in Naggaroth.
Also being stuck being a lackluster and underwhelming DLC. No Lore of Hags, no Hag Mothers, and no Chicken Legged Hut, which did have an icon for the Witch’s Hut and apparently may have even had concept art for a unit… which means it passed GWs vibe check.
I lost a T5 Chaos Fortress with a 20 man garrison of chosen, troll and warriors to a 20 AI stack of akshina ambushers. WHY DO THEY HAVE AP Melee damage like a chaos warrior wirh great weapons?? Wtf
I’m probably in the minority, but her campaign is my favourite thematically. It just sucks that CA was lazy and didn’t add a generic hag lord. Why tf can she recruit boyars and why in the world would the ice court serve someone who openly practices dark magic (not to mention she is a disgraced member of the ice court, though it’s been so long they don’t remember according to a voice line). Would be much cooler if they added a witches coven which lets your train new witches in the same way as the ice court does. I love her as a character and I love her vibe, it just feels so weird having her greatest generals be an ice maiden and bob the boyar
Her campaign is fun, the "she feels like an flc lord is just odd". One of her mechanics is an iteration on groms but i hate to break it to yall a lot of mechanics are iteration on other mechanics. Either from other TWW factions or other TWW games.
Hag lord i have no excuse for, that absolutely needs to be added to the dlc.
Many of these idiots that comment havent even play the faction. Theme this theme that bla bla. It got different touch and roster is not supposed to be completely different. Having no Hag lord is shitty but if you have to chose hero is better than a lord. Lores of magic yeah its a bit cheap move but i rather have 3 new lores for Kislev than make them have 1 new and dont get the acces to other 3. New units are also brutal. Elemental being my favorite, maybe among top 3 in the game and it looks like Leshen.

Half-baked is dead on for this campaign. The whole campaign, outside of Ostankya and the hag witches, just feels like it was thrown together without much thought.
if they arent going to increase the number of units for DLC's it needs to go back to the 2 lord dlcs. Id MUCH rather have 4-5 units + lord and hero for each of two factions then have 2-3 for each faction between 3. With only 2-3 i feel like you cant get the full theme for a lord like ostankya who is so different from normal kislev she is basically not even part of the race.

this campaign is pretty sour for me. i lvoe kislev, easily my favorite wh3 race and any content should be fun right? i love added hero type and units, but the mechanics are kinda meh and start position is questionable
Dont know, hexes are like cheat console commands. Teleporting enemies to Cathay is really fun.
Naw I can see the disliking the Stanky campaign. You're 100% right there's a lot of weird inconsistencies within it. It also runs into the same sort of problem that all Wh3 campaigns run into... the game gets boring after turn 50 as you've basically won your game at that point. I think by that point I'd knocked out morathi, and the skaven up north, the sisters of twilight were being jerks so I couldn't get an alliance with them so I took their tree, and I was about to take out the tomb king faction over there before I just got bored and turned it off.
TBH I think the hags not getting a special lore is not THAT big of a deal, beasts + death or even life + death + beasts could work for them. Not having more ungol units and lords is a bit eh, though.
i hope they make another pass on her but that seems incredibly unlikely. she should have her own lore of magic and lord type
strong faction but everything else about it feels so wrong, from the start position, to the units T2 units powercreeping every other unit of the roster and (thing of the woods are a chaos unit) and the Boyards instead of hag lords its so messed up like they put some ideas on the table and patched it with tape
On the one hand, you get Imrik for free, Rakarth, Drycha... And on the other, you pay 25 bucks to play an unfinished campaign, festus but with blue units, and Yuan bo.
For real. When I shamelessly participated in the review bomb I recommended people get WH2 instead. Way more content, much better story campaign, and lots of FLC on top of a base game with a generous amount of content.
Kislev needs a new lord type and Cathay needs a new melee hero
Stabky Mama's campaign is better in ROC IMO. The starting area is more accurate, and it is quicker to meet Kislev.
I bought the DLC for Mama O, and was disappointed in a lack of a new lord.
Ostankya gets Boyars to lead her armies by kidnapping them.

I love her campaign, it is very satisfying, especially a longer one. Being able to rapidly deploy forces around different theaters of war is especially useful! To be honest, Kislev is my favorite faction, especially with the new improvements!

Mother Ostankya feels like a mod, not a CA official DLC. The reskins, reused mechanics and a little bit of jank is fine for a mod who has limited resources. They're doing their best and we love them for trying, but CA on the other hand... "Buy it or we'll cut development for Warhammer III!" Ouch, something just doesn't feel the same lmao

Very lackluster, which makes me so sad because I was dying to play as her/Baba Yaga
I cannot think of a way to make Ostankya being her own faction work. Her roster simply isn't varied enough to support this. I think she'd work best as a hero you can unlock when playing as another Kislevite lord, which unlocks the DLC units. But being able to recruit Balewolves and Elemental Spirits as a normal Kislevite faction makes no sense.
