      Yep, and Vietnam is still communist today. US isn't exactly concern if they are partnering with communist as long as they are not really antagonism them. This is what I'm really baffled with China's move that it seems to be antagonising its neightbours which just makes them closer to US, instead of making mutual respect and diplomacy to side with them.

      Some history....Ho Chi Minh requested an audience with Woodrow Wilson, but Wilson refused to grant him an audience. One can say Wilson was an out right racist (after all, he re-segregated the federal govt after the Reconstruction period), but the US was allies with France, back then and we still are. But when Minh, who was moved by the Constitution, was rebuked by Wilson, he sought out the Soviets. Makes one wonder if there would have been a Vietnam War if the US had worked with Vietnam and France to secure Vietnam's freedom from French colonialism.

      @theobuniel9643 Some experts argued against the Domino Theory on the grounds that no Vietnamese government would ever want to work with China. The propaganda which the US used to (often successfully) convince VC fighters to desert and go back home often included claims that "if you work for the Communists, you're just helping China betray Vietnam."

    Power only respect power. The reasons why China dominates the Philippine EEZ is due to the lack of will and action of the past Philippine government/administrations in enhancing its maritime and security agencies such as the Philippine Coast Guard(PCG) and Armed Forces of The Philippines(AFP). The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) alone experienced decades of being underfunded. As a result, the PCG lacks large and long range patrol vessels to patrol and protect the vast Philippine EEZ.

    • @catterpie
      @catterpie Год назад

      Partly true, because even if the Philippines focused on its coast guard and navy without the US help they can't do nothing. Under Obama they de-escalated the standoff between the Chinese and PH, the PH de-escalated while the Chinese did not. And Obama did nothing. Under Trump, he focus internally and didn't want to meddle with these. When it's Biden's turn it was too late as the fortresses are done.
      TLDR
      They need the US to counter balance China.

This is why Chinese attention of all state media is on country where white is in charge even though the biggest threat to Chinese is from surrounding country with non white in charge. Good example is look at difference to Chinese reaction to India and Taiwan vs countries where white is in charge. After Galwan clash of 2020 Chinese medias were silent for almost one year before finally breaking the story. Also similar is the Taiwan situation where Taiwanese anti communist measures is imposed much harder than in country with white heads. Chinese foreign policy can be very clearly easily understood. To vote is to be white and to obey is to be non white. Chinese goal is to make sure non white do not become white by supporting voting while also turning white into non white by becoming obedient. Good example is look at Chinese views on Taiwan and Russia. Taiwanese is now white because the majority of the population support having elections and use this as the identity difference from Chinese. Meanwhile Russia has now turned into non white because it follows Chinese model of a population who obey the orders of supreme leader and use this as the identity difference from rest of white

As much as we all acknowledge that the US rooting for the countries against China is really just them trying to proxy and exercise their interests in the region, all the said countries they supported co-aligned with their interest. I can only see this working out for China by flipping their tables and campaign completely, moving to be supported by their neighbors, and erase their antagonistic image in the region. This video did not mention it but we all know China has a problem with the whole neighborhood and not just South East Asia. I hope they do things for the betterment of the entire region, unless they really are just vouching for conflict and an all-in attitude to achieve the picture they are painting, "Hegemony."

      It's definitely a complex issue, and I don't see China taking over the US's role as the world police any time soon. Their economy is too fragile and they are facing multiple structural issues.
      That being said, they seem to be goading the US into spending more on their military and supporting nearby countries. It could be that their aim is to force the US into more debt, which they are happy to buy. Maybe it's a shared strategy between Xi and Putin to stretch the US on multiple fronts and cause domestic instability by interfering in elections. This is already happening, and we all know that instability is the #1 economic killer.

    • @itsjustabricc
      @itsjustabricc Год назад +2

      @@aviefern That is a very interesting perspective. However, it would be a very big gamble on the part of China if that is the case. It's one thing for them to ante up their rivalry with the US, but to push most of her neighbors into siding with the US is like spreading poison all over her yard. It's hard to believe that China would be willing to antagonize its neighboring countries when they know the said countries are the sole reason why the US is able to flex its muscle in the region while American shores are miles and miles away.
      Your words and mine are all just speculation as far as I know. But I must say that I don't expect nor want China to act as a peace police, not with their authoritarian government. What I think they ought to do however is sincerely move (let me emphasize the importance of sincerity) for an Asian-centric campaign where international law and economic prosperity is upheld instead of militaristic maneuvers in the contested waters. It shouldn't be surprising for a nation like the Philippines to request military aid from it's oldest treaty partner when China made bases/man made islands and swarmed their vessels near Philippine shores.
      They should have done it the other way around, with fairness and cooperation in mind, and partnered with the Philippines as well as other claimants in utilizing this beautiful body of water into benefiting everyone. The resources there will not disappear into thin air and could wait until all nations can settle with agreements that can safeguard all of the claimants. As far as I'm concerned, China has never stood for fair and lawful treatment with other claimants, they have always acted that everything is already theirs when they should have known that the other claimants would never sit back and let it all just happen. And this is the exact reason why everyone is calling Uncle Sam.

    • @aviefern
      @aviefern Год назад +3

      @@itsjustabricc , China seems to be following the old US imperialist playbook of bigger gun diplomacy. They are winning friends where they need to, for example in Africa, to get access to minerals and votes in the UN. Meanwhile they know that the nearby countries alliances with the US are only worth it as long as the US has the power to protect them. If they can spread the US thin and get American public opinion against intervention, then these countries will seek alliances with China on their own terms.
      In recent experience, we saw the US reaction to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The reluctance of the US to intervene sends a strong signal to East-Asian countries that the US may not stand up for them if China invades. In that scenario, it makes more sense for them to be aligned with China.

    • @parvizdeamer
      @parvizdeamer Год назад +16

      How have they ‘incorporated them into their territory?’ They respect their national political sovereignty, their borders and their exclusive economic zones. If anything China’s annexation of islands in other countries EEZ is driving them closer to the USA. Look at Vietnam. It’s just like what happened to Russia with Sweden and Finland, after it invaded Ukraine. You can try and spin it, but only one country is taking territory illegally and not respecting the sovereign rights of its neighbors.

    • @ScoobyDoo-zp1sq
      @ScoobyDoo-zp1sq Год назад +4

      @@parvizdeamer Chinas claim to those islands predates UNCLOS. A countries EEZ cannot infringe upon a nations territorial sea. The spratly would inherit a territorial sea if China has sovereignty over it as it claims. This would make the issue of Phillipines EEZ null and avoid. E.g. look at the EEZ of Cuba relative to the US. It does not extend 200NM. Vietnams dispute with the Phillipines is exactly the same as Chinas as it claims the whole archipelago. China is actually being very restraint in this issue as all countries (Vietnam,Malaysia,Phillipines,China) have militarised these islands. Just imagine them being a neighbour to the US. We know how that story ends….The western media paints a picture that it’s only China but it was actually the Vietnamese who militarised the islands first which prompted China to respond in turn.
      Also, do not confuse the US interpretation of the laws vs the reality. There is no higher power to pass judgement. The US for all its sabre rattling hasn’t even ratified UNCLOS so it’s not even qualified to speak.
      Chinese delegates added a signatory caveats when it ratified the Convention: China’s right to delimit the EEZ, to deny the compulsory jurisdiction of dispute resolution bodies (to overlapping EEZ claims), to lay sovereignty claim to islands and archipelagos in disputed areas, and to oppose “innocent passage” through its territorial seas without prior notice.
      UNCLOS in itself left a lot of grey areas just to get countries to sign up kicking the inevitable can down the road. For example India/China/Russia interpret the EEZ line to state that a country can regulate maritime traffic in its EEZ to mean it can restrict access to foreign naval vessels. The US disagrees although the do the same thing.
