This is West Sumatera Silek style. One of the origin and birth place of Pencak Silat (the other is West Java or Pasundan land). Respect from Indonesia to all my Phillipinos Bros and sisters.

Personally I was not familiar was Silat Buka Lingkaran. Thank you for introducing this unique style to me! My son is married to a beautiful Philipino lady and they have given my wife and I two fantastic grandboys! My son is a Black Belt and is interested in finding a style for his boys to learn when they get a little older. I highly suggested Silat Buka Lingkaran as a style for him to look into! Thank you Sensei Ford and Guro Janel Barlongo for opening my eyes

Way too subtle for someone who grew up conditioned to believe that once things get down to ground level, you're grappling - simple as that. I like to think I get the concept of flow as it applies to stick and blade but this was a little obscure for a large limbed Westerner who has never studied Yoga - different strokes, I guess. Kudos for being willing to give this a shot.

I'm thinking that some of these movements aren't meant to be used without weapons and shield. Kicking from under your blocking shield is what I see in the first kick.

It is because the origin of silat in Southeast Asia where combat often takes place in coastal and muddy area. So you have to be really grounded to avoid falling (if you fall opponent will use the opportunity to drown or suffocate you with the mud)

Filipino martial arts is directly decent from Indonesia silat.

This is west Sumatran silat, but the traditional music is from West Java.......come on......it will be much greater if you present it with west Sumatran traditional music.

But to be specific, yes this type of silat came from more likely west Indonesia
