That limp mode and check engine light is for your speed sensor! The trans isn’t able to read your speed and throws the car into limp mode(also why the speedometer doesn’t work). It’s a super simple fix, the sensor is located right under the TMIC on top of the transmission. Pop a new one in and it will feel perfect again.
I think the oil overfill can cause the oil fumes go through the crank case ventilation into the intake and intercooler. And, golden wheels would look great I think!
I love that you like to take broken STIs into your loving arms. Watched the last STI rebuild series with the black blob can’t wait to see how the black hawk turns out.
@@davids6106 it looks like this model based on the hoses visible is just a catch can. Crawford does make more expensive air oil separators with return but this doesn't look like the more expensive model
Jrhcustom I’m sorry but that looks like a V2 AOS for 02-07 STIs. Take a closer look throughout the video when he removes the IC. Devin also called it a AOS so...
Its first time you dont make so effort to fix a car!!!! nice Diagnostic dude!!!! Thanks for Videos sorry far away some days of the channel..... Thanks Regards
These videos are therapeutic for me seeing that i love seeing subarus especially Hawkeyes Mitsubishi owners looking on devin throwing evo wheels on a STI like what blasphemy
the fuel cut is related to the ecu not relearning idle. lots of tuned subarus will do that, let it go through a couple heat cycles. Disconnect the battery for like an hour cold then start it with all forms of load off and run for 30min. After turn it off and run it with high load (ac, brights, radio etc)
Very well put together!! New subscriber just got my evo x and was happy to see that you live close by!! Been binge watching lately !! Took my car to English and got a full ets turbo kit to go with it now I am at 496 whp just cuz stock it wasn’t very satisfying!! Anyway great job on these videos
Use the accessport to do a roughness cylinder test 1-4 just to see if there is anything going on in there the vzlues should stay at 0. You shouldnt have much oil in the IC since it has an AOS. You should check the turbo for shaft play just to eliminate some stuff.
Love your video's, I just stumbled across your evo build series. And now I almost watched all the videos you posted now. You keep up the hard work bro.
Oil gets in the intercooler on stock STI's from the crappy PCV system. The AOS is supposed to fix that, but maybe the AOS was installed incorrectly or it's flooded from so much oil being in the engine. With my iAG AOS I get zero detectable blow-by. I checked it after 8K miles and zero oil detected in the intercooler when there was tons in it before. If nothing else, it's a Subaru. Your car looks like it's vaping! lol Candy apple color chameleon colored wheels would be SICK!
It actually depends where the head gasket failed. you can have it fail going into the combustion chamber causing the lost of coolant and over pressurizing the block to make it appear it is over full in oil. But the overfill does not help anything and can cause it to smoke till all the excess oil is burned off.
Devin have you ever bought a car that doesn't need a front screen ? I feel the over fill on oil was the issue with smoking - I can also hear the Evo community up in arms you have put them wheels on the Subaru :) toss out all them worry gauges and get down to 3 center ones , boost - oil temp - oil pressure Good To Go GTG !
dumbass probably didn't know oil needs to be drained and replaced with new oil every couple thousands miles. prob thought its supposed to burn like gas. fucking dumbass
Maybe late question, but how about that air oil separator, isn't it full and it pushing oil into the inlet, (with bad PCV)? Or is it dumping oil back to the sump? What about the excessive oil is ended up in the inlet via AOS? Crankshaft could beat into the oil level and mix it up, than the blow by pushed the actual oil through the PCV/ inlet depression sucked through the PCV? Bad Valve stem seals don't put oil to the inlet, it can only bad PCV and/or turbo I think.
I think that running some seafoam into the bov vac line that goes into the intake manifold would've been good for cleaning all the oil gunk out from being overfilled. Not to mention the fun smoke show of the seafoam
Idk if he addresses it later in the video, but the boost cut could be caused by the vehicle speed sensor code. No idea why, but when the speedometer stops working and it throws that code, sometimes it’ll put the car in limp mode or feel sluggish, or even run the radiators constantly. Speaking from experience with mine 🥴
My STi was even shooting oil out from blow off valve, but that was when turbo was really getting rekt. The turbine was really loose. You had your downpipe off, did you feel the turbine in there, if it was loose or still tight?
the speed sensor gets corrosion from under the i/c water sprayer clean the contacts and the code will go away. its located by the trans dip stick/ fill tube. the fuel cut will stop its a safe mode without speed readings
That's a lot of oil right there ......the owner just wasted this beautiful STI..... Didn't know how to take care of it.....anyway, it's in good hands now.
Watching around 7:00-7:30. I see you hit rev limiter really low, and your speed-o-meter is not working. I got this same issue with my STi once. I thought something broke bad. But there is really weird safety thing, that if the dash stuff are not working, it puts safety mode on. Mine blew fuse that was going to the dash. Switching that and everything worked. I was so confused at the beginning.
I'd be worried about the effect of possible foamed oil on the crank and rods, they didn't sound bad though. Also what does all that oil and extra pressure do to the PCV system?
If the water pump is leaking, the pump has a weep hole which indicates internal seal failure, or could be the gasket. I have an 05 STi which this happened 2 days ago. Hope this helps.
Being that full of oil will definitely hurt the turbo as the extra oil in the engine will block the oil return line so the oil cannot drain out the turbo and meaning it will just pump the oil out of the turbo seals
the one engine code it threw was for a speed sensor. doesnt mention changing the speed sensor at all jus keeps driving it like the sensor gonna fix itself after sitting for 15 mins lol. good job on cleaning out the oil tho
@5:31 Aren't you supposed to add coolant to the highest point in the system in these cars? (The coolant fill tank that is closer up by the intercooler where you are messing with the hose at 6:35)
The sti is known for having oil problems with it in the inter cooler and intake track. Even with an iag aos I have it in my 2018 sti. I bet Bobby’s has oil in her intercooler too
I had a mazdaspeed6 that would smoke after idling for a while because the recommended 5w30 would thin out and leak past turbo seals so putting in 5w40 fixed the issue.
wonder if he'll ever call him and tell him or anything? like hey butt head, fixed your blown car with an oil pan, a flat head screwdriver and 2 cups of gasoline. lol.
@@UhhhSitrep yea its funny seeing these people who dont know anything and they go to the shops tell them car is smoking and overheating, the shop probably tells them its blown to make lots of money. It’s boost cut because it’s on limp mode. Why dccd is blinking. Check your hand break if it’s loose or check oil sensor. Oh check your pvc it can be smoking because of that to
The engine sounds great man. I'm crossing my fingers that it's fixed now, that would definitely cause it to smoke. When I pulled my intercooler and soaked it with gas, it was almost completely clear (and I have 165,000 miles). So I kinda have a feeling it's fixed.
It amazes me the things people do to their cars, good for you for getting the engine to what appears to be straightened out. Looks like with a little bit of work it has the potential to be a pretty nice car, just gotta work the rigging out of it. Good luck bro.
Soo the speed sensor is the cause for not only the speedometer obviously but its also the ready for the cut off at around 4 to 5k rpm had same issue in my car the speed sensor broke but maybe what was hanging was the sensor and it needed to be skrewed in or something
I am surprised there is no CEL for no speed to the speedometer. Most cars I worked on always had a P code turning on the mil light. 19:25 since you're gonna probably pull the engine out I would do both and eliminate any guess work. Sucks doing the job twice ya know.
Never seen someone look so sad that they didn't have to pull a motor 🤣
WOW that's nuts the amount of oil that was in there WTF!
How that's even possible?😅

Twice as much oil. Thats why they needed two oil temp gauges :)

Hilarious that someone put that much oil in the thing what an absolute moron

There was a lot of oil and no oil catch can so it went strait to the intake. Clean it well and it will be 👌
Rafał o it has an AOS... it went back to the oil pan
Roberto Grimaldo yes.. an AOS isn’t a catch can. A catch can would be overfilling from all the all oil. The AOS is gonna end up sending some back.
