Another perfect restoration with the result being the part looking like brand new. Plus, no one ever show how to clean the fins and restoring the cooling efficiency. Your work is amaizing!

I really enjoy these short videos on single component restorations in this Impreza series. And I think that adding some genuine RRC narration makes them both a bit more educational and also personal.
I have to say that your accent makes the detailed work, feel more precise. I'm not sure why but I think it's soothing, mate. Cheers from Delaware USA . I greatly appreciate your painting experience and advice 🙏🤙🤘. Beautiful work

TIL petrol is a great solvent! Obviously you need the area to be well ventilated to avoid an explosive atmosphere, but it got that oil out beautifully!
An air oil separator helps a ton with keeping oil out of the intake on boxer engine. I grabbed the IAG one, since it runs coolant through to keep the aos the same temperature as the engine. No condensation build up with the coolant running.

It sounds like a good idea to clean ANY still functioning Inter-Cooler that is found on these cars or any car for that Matter . It was amazing how much oil was inside this cooler .
From the thumbnail I was wondering how the heck you got the fins so clean. low pressure vapor blasting makes sense! I really want to find some kind of rubber tipped perfectly sized and shaped tool to straighten fins. They never seen to come out just right even with the combs I have. I do have a 3D printer now. Maybe I should just make something. Great work!
Well done Buddy, Great work, clear precise commentary and a good bit of music to finish with. Your Videos just get better and better. I cannot think how long that must have taken, not just the work on the Intercooler but the video work, setting up the shots ( I still love the anonymity aspect) and the video editing. A real tour de force.
There is a specific tool for doing those radiator fins. I once had a blocked rad while in Cornwall and the place I went to took off the header and bottom, unclogged the core and resoldered it, then straightened all the fins with the tool.
Another awesome restoration, well timed too as im removing mine tomorrow so gave me some ideas, just waiting for an in depth video on how you zinc plate! and ofc the impreza resto
Howdy, enjoyed this video ( as always) , to be honest the vapor blaster stirs the rage of jealously😁. I have used plastic tool called a fin comb to straighten cooling fins in various radiators. Here ours get bent by 110kph+ impact with pre historic bugs. Tried flat blade screwdrivers, never tweezers though.😀
Love the restoration. I was a little behind on videos but already caught up. Although I am a little disappointed that there was no testing of the intercooler to check the arp sound.
Nah, you sneaked out and bought a new one didn't you 😜 Another fantastic restoration, after the cleaning I noticed the few bent fins and though hmm, what to do about those, but I had no worries when I saw the tweezers on the bench.
Another fantastic restoration!!! I can’t wait for the next episode of this restoration. May I ask what was the solution you used in your ultrasonic cleaning unit? Thanks again for another entertaining and informative video. Cheers🥃

Nice video as always. HIghlight of my week when RRC videos are on my playlist! Quick question: How do you know to apply grease on threads of bolts? Do you have a manual?
Enjoy this so much. Lets me know the pain of some of the work I gotta do lol. Curious to know the Y pipe upgrade you got. Ive seen many silicon ones, but never metal. And I would prefer that.
Love your videos, can you possibly link the parts you bought and other stuff used as I'm new to this and want to follow your video for guidance? Also what sealant did you use and can I get it in spray can form?
After an hour of tweezing all the fins straight I went to take off the y pipe. As I was unbolting the tab on the flange with the threads snapped off. Defeat.
hey! great job. such patience! tell me, when you put the blow off valve, why dind`t you put gasket maker on BOTH sides of the gasket? are boost leaks more comone onthe intercooler side than BOV side?
I get that this was ages ago and i'm late to the show here but you can buy HVAC fin combs which i bet if you have a few of you'd have the right size to straighten any car radiator/IC/heater maxtrix etc etc. Just for future reference ;)
Thank you :), I actually quite like it lol. Although it may still have to go if it doesn't perform well as I've still not driven the car yet to find out

Underrated comment!!
Great restoration. I was fooled by the thumbnail though - it made me think you were going to spray the STi logo on the fins.

Turned out nice! Tweezing fins sounds mind-numbing!

An audio & visual joy once again dude 🙏🙏🙏. And thanks for sharing the knowledge as well. Top job, as ever 👏👏👏. 😎

Really happy to hear you are enjoying all of these smaller videos :)
It's spelled restorations dude you should've finished school 🏫
@Rodney Hopper I did. Just not in an English speaking country. Thanks for pointing out my mistake and I hope that it gave your life some meaning.
Another great rebuild. For years I have been using a screw driver that I’ve shaped for radiator cores. But now I’m using tweezers. Great job old mate.
A very good install brother. A nice touch with tweezers on the intercooler fins.
Cheers Paul :)

How in the world have I as a subscriber and a WRX owner myself completely missed this vid?!?!
I really need to get those pipes for mine. I havent really thought about it. Well done, as usual!
Zip ties or cable ties whichever you choose to call them are great for straightening the metal fins
Short, concise and clear. It's so fun watching your video. Looks like new stuff. Excellent work, man.

What sealer did you use? Is it clear coat? Because that would inhibit it's cooling ability.
Like a hit job on the radiator with Maria style preparation.
Beautiful, professional work as always man. Love it.

What kind of sealer do you use?? What brand is the wapor cabinet?
choice of lubricant type when reassembling the recirc valve piston?

Options if you dont have a vapor blaster to restore the corroded outside?
Your voice and voice-over reminds me of playing the PS1 Colin McRae intro level - good times 👍🏻
What sealant did you use on the IC to keep it from oxidizing?
Maybe someone asked but would a radiator or AC Fin Comb not reduce the time on straightening?

Did you use standard clear coat to seal it ? Also what's the blue stuff you put on the dump valve gasket, is it instant gasket?
Cheers great video
so ive dealt with turbo honda everything from D to K ..... 1 question was that bov bolted to the inter cooler?
great job as always lad keep up the good work
Love your channel! Curious how many different camera you use at once? Your videos give the impression that there are many cameras involved!
Did you use heat proof laquer to seal the alloy cooller please
Did the sealer “clog” any of the fins? I’d be worried about the sealer’s surface tension bridging the fins, then hardening.
I’m wondering this as well; along with the thermal properties the sealer would inhibit.
What sealer is used please?
I have a few questione: 6:22 what sealer is it ? 7:24 just water into the cleaner or something else? Thanks a lot
Does the coating on yhe aluminium effect perfotof the intercooler?
Another awesome job congratulations my friend
What sealer did you use?
Great job as always, big man!

Quick question:
How do you know to apply grease on threads of bolts? Do you have a manual?
what fluid did you use for clean in ultrasonic cleaner ?
Looks nice. Surprised that you didn't straighten the fins before cleaning the core and that you didn't replace cheap clamps with good Norma clamps.
What type of clear coat did you use? How has it held up so far? I'm actually in the process of restoring an STi intercooler myself!
Outstanding job sir.

Use your brain's on this subject and you might be amazed to what you can do with some ambition hmmm 🤔🤔
What ultrasonic cleaning solution do you use RRC?
What's the size of the elbow silicone hose, isn't it 2 inches?
You still going to look at putting in some little wipers on the inside of the vapour chamber? 😉👍
The sealant you used was this just a satin lacquer?
After an hour of tweezing all the fins straight I went to take off the y pipe. As I was unbolting the tab on the flange with the threads snapped off. Defeat.
I don't envy you straightening those fins!
hey! great job. such patience!
tell me, when you put the blow off valve, why dind`t you put gasket maker on BOTH sides of the gasket? are boost leaks more comone onthe intercooler side than BOV side?
he did - check 10:10, there's already hylomar on the BOV
The BOV is on the intercooler? Thats pretty neat!
Was that Irn-Blu in the ultrasonic cleaner? 😅
Really though, what are you using?
You didn't feel the need to pressure test it before sealing it? I guess it never looked like it got holed!
Really nice job👌🏻
