Fine powder explosion

- Chief Scientist Carl Nelson demonstrates the combustion of a fine powder in a sealed container.
A sparkler acts as the ignition source for this explosion. A squeeze bottle filled with lycopodium is used to create a fine mist inside the sealed paint can. The large surface area of the powder allows it to rapidly combust. In doing so, the air inside the container heats up and expands, blowing the lid off the can.
This is a small scale version of what can happen in a grain elevator filled with fine grain particles and an ignition source. Наука
I cant deny that i come from Goblin Slayer, it actually works!
Fellow weeb I was trying to see how that works
I saw that and baki lol
Lol same came from Goblin slayer
Glad I’m not the only one who got to this video after reading (or watching) Goblin Slayer. lol
I was trying to wrap around why more surface area would do this and never thought to ask in class thinking it was a silly question someone in advanced chemistry should know by now. But that block analogy was perfect even 20 years later finally got that mystery solved! Thank you!
Goblin Slayer!
Goblin Slayer?
Yup and I googled about canaries which was also true. That show is awesome
Baki the grappler
The can crunching was a neat side effect of the lid not being fully sealed so the pressure could rush out without removing the lid.
This was a great demonstration!! Its fun and learning about science!! Great Job!!
3:58 He either doesn't hammer the lid fully down intentionally, or doesn't realise he hasn't fully hammered it down, but that's why the final paint can doesn't explode but _implodes_
I think it implodes because it reseals it self. Not fully hammering the lid made it not fly off.
Great demonstration! I've done this with kids, but never did the can get crushed... Awesome :-) The method we used is to blow through a small hose, would you recommend using bellows?
Isn't a puffer a person who prepares the actors for their participation in certain types of movie roles?
"Magical puffer touch"🤔
Powder... in an enclosed place... don’t tell me.
Goblin Slayer or Baki?
ALL fire and flames needs oxygen....-Whats new,Mr.MaGoo?Loose particles feeding from being a solid.
Quick question here, if that balloon contain hydrogen gas and you ignite it with fire or Oxidize it, the end product would be water right ?
Yea.
Aight my boy Subaru!
This will be uselss against goblins.
Baki!
Yes goblin slayer was correct
From one punch man anybody?
Hi
Lol xd
