Garth Brooks is the number one concert I've been to. He's been around so long they're just parties now full of alcohol and people just sing his songs to him. It's absolutely fantastic!
Another controversial Garth classic. It was a real argument at my radio station whether we would play it or not but it was Garth and there was no way we couldn’t play it. We played the censored version without the final verse but everyone knew it was about domestic abuse and Garth elevated the topic to a national discussion. Bad press works too and Garth made it work for him. Killer song, no pun intended.
Garth Brooks was a new name for me, your channel introduced him to me and this song is, so far, my favorite from this gentleman. Love the mix of country and rock, the guitars and, especially, his way of singing/story-telling. Country music is also not as much popular in my country but most people have heard of Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Reba..I love the fact my daughter (13 y/o now) has two favorite songs: '39 from Queen (thanks to me, a big fan who introduced her to Queen music) and the other is "Jolene" by Dolly. So, two completely different kind of music, and we live far, far away from USA..She heard "Jolene" on TV two years ago and that was it - love at first listen! 😊That just proves good music finds the way to reach all people, despite the genre we may think we like, I just love such surprises!
Back in 1997, Garth was my very first concert. When he did this song, there was an actual thunderstorm rolling in at the outdoor concert. It's still the best concert I've ever been to.
He was very humbled at a concert in Eastern Europe (Czech Republic I think) when he realized the crowd was singing along. He said most of these people don't speak English but they know my songs.

The best live performance of this song was on the This Is Garth Brooks Too! DVD filmed in Dallas. He had lightening machines and made it rain around the stage and even on a portion of the crowd. And that was all well after creating a ring of fire on the same stage when opening the concert with Standing Outside The Fire. Also, you commented in another video about the crowd size at his concerts. What you may not know is that his concerts are usually booked as two or three performances, but usually sell out so quickly that they turn into four to even six performances over a two to three day period. One of my favorites, but then most of Garth’s songs are favorites! And as you know my friend, I am a huge country fan. Yes, great song, “Thunder Rolls” very relatable. Just seen him live in Dublin. The sound of the drums in the 3rd verse when the drums sounds like the pistols shooting would make the hair stand on the back of your neck. Unreal song live.
there was an earlier concert where, it not only thundered and lightninged, but it also RAINED. This is why he was Entertainer of the Year so many times
I have seen Garth 3 times. It is not a concert it is an experience, I can only compare it to seeing Jimi Hendrix when I was 16. Yep I’m old. Thunder Rolls and Friends in low Places both have a 4th verse but the radio won’t play it. But the audience goes crazy knowing what is coming.
You nailed the lyrics and what the song was saying. The third verse is again one of Garths “live” things, similar to the friends in low places video you reacted too.
You can feel this song building from beginning to end. I don't recall this song being banned in my area, but I'm living 2 hrs. from Garth's hometown and they don't ban him around here.

Three thirty in the mornin' Not a soul in sight The city's looking like a ghost town On a moonless summer night Rain drops on the windshield There's a storm movin' in He's heading back from somewhere That he never should have been And the thunder rolls, and the thunder rolls Every light is burning In the house across town She's pacing by the telephone In her faded flannel gown Asking for a miracle Hoping she's not right Praying it's the weather That's kept him out all night And the thunder rolls, and the thunder rolls The thunder rolls, and the lightning strikes Another love grows cold On a sleepless night As the storm rolls on, out of control Deep in her heart, the thunder rolls She's waiting by the window When he pulls into the drive She rushes out to hold him, thankful he's alive But on the wind and rain a strange new perfume blows The lightning flashes in her eyes And he knows that she knows And the thunder rolls, and the thunder rolls The thunder rolls, and the lightning strikes Another love grows cold On a sleepless night As the storm rolls on, out of control Deep in her heart, the thunder rolls She runs back down the hallway To the bedroom door She reaches for the pistol Kept in the dresser drawer Tells the lady in the mirror He won't do this again Cause tonight will be the last time She'll wonder where he's been The thunder rolls, and the lightning strikes Another love grows cold On a sleepless night As the storm rolls on, out of control Deep in her heart..... The Thunder Rolls
So glad you found this and found the third verse .. of course he couldn’t release that on his record esp back then .. you’re the only reactor I’ve seen find these gems of Garth Brooks .. he did sell more albums than Michael Jackson and Elvis .. he sold out 4-5 concert in mere minutes !! He’s the best entertainer in country music and he changed the game when he came in .. but his voice is so so good as well !! His wife is Trisha Yearwood is famous in country music in her own right !! If you could find their duet In Another’s Eyes 👀… it’s awesome .. I know u have to find a live version cause he has rights over his own music .. he lives where I live outside of Nashville when they aren’t in Oklahoma..(I think can’t remember ).. I’ve heard people seeing him in grocery store and he bought like 10-20 shirts from boot barn .. lol 😂
Garth has said Queen & Aerosmith we’re big influences on him & a lot of his songs border on arena rock. I could very easily see Garth singing Queens “Tie Your Mother Down” ....it’s right in his wheel house, so to speak. Yes, Thunder Rolls is a dark song & if I remember right it was banned some places, because it addressed domestic violence, when it came out. He has a good variety of music; rock, pop, folk all done with a country twang.
Basically, the story is he’s cheating on his wife. She’s waiting for him to come home and she prays that he is not doing what she thinks he’s doing. When he comes home she could smell the perfume on the bimbo and she knows that she’s right. Now, this was taken off the radio when it first came Out because the last verse was her taking a gun and letting him have it.
Also the video was banned! That was because these idiots didn't think that because the video showed so much violence ! The point was what is going on in so many places and needed to be told. Once more higher ups thought we were so stupid to not get what was happening. Big Brother was starting!
This version is on his Double Live Version. They’ve edited it so the crowd cheers are lower than Garth most of the way through the song! I love this version even if it has her taking revenge for him cheating through violence! But hey, we live in the US where guns are legal for most!
You're right, it is about domestic violence but if you watch the video it's not the wife that's the abuser. It's the husband. Not only is he a cheater but he beats her when he gets home and the get into a fight over him cheating. In the video it's after she's beaten that she gets the gun and kills him.
Check out his Ireland concerts. Massive concerts. Later after original concert, he Actually sold out like 7 concerts on 7 straight nights that got canceled because government wouldn't allow that many concerts because of noise. Plus he has a song "Ireland" that's a classic
WoW!! The song is awesome!! I guess I can understand him because he is from Oklahoma lol. I have a twang too 🤣 Your reaction was very on point for this song. You were right! People can relate to this. Your take was fantastic & gets you to thinking. The last verse is not on the studio version. He only sings it at concerts. 🔥🔥🔥♥️♥️♥️
if you are able to find the official video he made for this, the 3rd verse is explained in better context. When he comes home from his affair and she confronts him about it, the husband started smacking her around as their little girl is sitting on their stairs listening and watching Daddy abuse mommy. When dad sees his little girl he makes an aggressive move toward the child and that when mommy runs for the gun. Garth was not able to have the 3rd verse on the album but fans who had heard it live knew the verse. So even if the 3rd verse wasn't in the video he was able to present it in visual form. It was his way of sticking it to the music execs. And fun fact Garth plays the husband in the video.
In the video for this song, when the wife confronts the husband, he begins beating her in front of their daughter. So yeah, she shot him but she was also being beaten. Another fun fact, Garth plays the cheating husband in the video and you would never know it was him with the makeup job they did.
Bless you for another country reaction! 👍🏻 love the intensity in your eyes as you were attempting to catch the lyrics! 😎. Country isn’t my go-to, yet there’s some good ones. I know..... you are always asked, but ya I’m going to ask! 😉 please do a reaction to Kelly Clarkson (American idol version of piece by piece) please 🤞🏻
Hey HAP. I think the female country singer you were trying to remember was REBA MCENTIRE. Now GEORGE STRAIT is my all time favorite country singer. Did you know that GARTH and REBA both were born in the state of OKLAHOMA and GEORGE was born in TEXAS. GARTH has a song that is my favorite song of his its called UNANSWERED PRAYERS. PLEASE go listen to that one for me. You can get into listening to GEORGE and REBA later after you listen to more of GARTH. Loved the reaction to this song its kind of different. Take care my friend and have a good evening. Your girl, QUEEN BEE.
Haven't quite finished watching yet but, I HAD to pause and comment... I'm shocked you didn't know how HUGE Country music is!! Anyway.... It's HUGE... and I don't know what Country singer you were talking about when you said you knew of one girl who had "a few big songs"..... I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's probably Carrie Underwood you were thinking of! She (as WELL as SOOOO many female Country artists from Dolly, Reba to Carrie Underwood and everyone in between) have NUMEROUS hits throughout the years!! Sounds like you may've been sleeping on our Country music!! LOL!!! If you (and other subs are interested) here's a few Carrie Underwood songs to check out (she's sugar and spice and everything nice! lol!) "BEFORE HE CHEATS" "DIRTY LAUNDRY" "TIL I SEE YOU AGAIN" "WASTED" "LAST NAME" "JUST A DREAM" "GOOD GIRL" "BLOWN AWAY" Etc, etc, etc, and so on..... for some more Country reactions there's TONS of great artists (new and old) to explore!!! ;) ;)
Sux that Garth pulls his music from RUclips but his music is amazing! My rockin’ favorites from Garth are That Summer; Standing Outside the Fire; Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up); Callin’ Baton Rouge; Rodeo; and Two of a Kind, Workin’ on a Full House. My emotional favorites of his are If Tomorrow Never Comes; Unanswered Prayers; Wolves; What She’s Doing Now; The River; Learning to Live Again; That Ol’ Wind; Somewhere Other Than The Night; Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old); The Dance; She’s Every Woman; and In Lonesome Dove. But his most powerful songs are Mom; The Thunder Rolls; The Night I Called The Old Man Out; We Shall Be Free; and The Change.
I'm trying to remember because I have not listened to country (or Garth which is iffy country) in many years. BUT if I remember correctly "If tomorrow never comes" and "Unanswered Prayers" are great songs. Do you remember which video has him going crazy on stage like he was a hard core rocker?
In the wind and rain a strange new perfume flows...the scent of another woman's perfume...he was out cheating as she was up all night at home worrying about him...the lightening flashed in her eyes and he knew that she knew he was with another woman
The video doesn't have the third verse but they fight and he hits her and threatens their little girl during the second verse and she shoots him on the video. Yes he was a writer on the song. He is in the songwriters hall of fame for good reason.
The original video of this, Garth plays the part of the cheating husband who beats the girlfriend and when he gets home, he takes a swing at the wife. She has had enough and shoots him. The thunder rolls. The video was pulled and the last verse was removed for radio play. Domestic Violence was not talked about in polite company then.
The wife is been worried about her man it's in the middle of the morning still not home and she's worried theirs a "storm" and a storm is coming in their relationship cuz here she is worried but he's been with another woman when she grabs him to hug the wind blows and she smells the woman's perfume and that is why he say he knows that she knows..its a sad song and really I ain't a country fan either but this song hits ur heart and there is no other to understand what he's saying cuz he's spelling it out ...but even tho it's so sad it is a great song
Not sure how many remember this since the video was essentially banned, but the video shows her yelling at her husband after she realizes he's cheating. He then beats her and gives her a black eye. That's why she goes for the pistol and what he wont do again. It is domestic violence, but it's the husband beating his wife.
Please react to ABBA's: 1. Move On 2. One Man One Woman 3. Soldiers 4. Slipping through my fingers 5. Like an Angel Passing Through My Room 6. Does your mother know 7. He's your brother (Australia live 77) 8. Why did it have to be me (Australia live 77)
As for the reaction to "The Dance", I get why people were "correcting" you on the meaning of it. But I also feel that Art (of any kind) should be left open to interpretation and should mean whatever it does to the individual viewer/listener.... as long as it "moves" your soul that's all that matters! That's the beauty of it.... P.S. LOVE Garth Brooks.... For a fun one, PLEASE do "Two Pina Coladas" sometime OR.... "That Summer".... they're 2 more of Garth's huge hits!!!
In the video you see the man leaving his mistress and driving home. His wife is at home with a black eye. They start arguing and he starts beating her. Their little girl comes down the stairs and he starts toward the child. Thats when his wife shoots.
I’ve heard this song and third verse so many times but it still gives me goosebumps everytime

Three thirty in the mornin'
Not a soul in sight
The city's looking like a ghost town
On a moonless summer night
Rain drops on the windshield
There's a storm movin' in
He's heading back from somewhere
That he never should have been
And the thunder rolls, and the thunder rolls
Every light is burning
In the house across town
She's pacing by the telephone
In her faded flannel gown
Asking for a miracle
Hoping she's not right
Praying it's the weather
That's kept him out all night
And the thunder rolls, and the thunder rolls
The thunder rolls, and the lightning strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm rolls on, out of control
Deep in her heart, the thunder rolls
She's waiting by the window
When he pulls into the drive
She rushes out to hold him, thankful he's alive
But on the wind and rain a strange new perfume blows
The lightning flashes in her eyes
And he knows that she knows
And the thunder rolls, and the thunder rolls
The thunder rolls, and the lightning strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm rolls on, out of control
Deep in her heart, the thunder rolls
She runs back down the hallway
To the bedroom door
She reaches for the pistol
Kept in the dresser drawer
Tells the lady in the mirror
He won't do this again
Cause tonight will be the last time
She'll wonder where he's been
The thunder rolls, and the lightning strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm rolls on, out of control
Deep in her heart.....
The Thunder Rolls
The 3rd verses of Friends in Low Places and The Thunder Rolls are meant for live shows only. There is no other way to hear them otherwise
I’ve heard people seeing him in grocery store and he bought like 10-20 shirts from boot barn .. lol 😂
If you’re afraid to be hurt, you’ll never experience the joy of living - enjoy the dance.
If you watch the video his wife actually has a black eye... Glad you caught the dv in it.
You should see the music video
Also the video was banned! That was because these idiots didn't think that because the video showed so much violence ! The point was what is going on in so many places and needed to be told. Once more higher ups thought we were so stupid to not get what was happening. Big Brother was starting!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This version is on his Double Live Version. They’ve edited it so the crowd cheers are lower than Garth most of the way through the song! I love this version even if it has her taking revenge for him cheating through violence! But hey, we live in the US where guns are legal for most!
You're right, it is about domestic violence but if you watch the video it's not the wife that's the abuser. It's the husband. Not only is he a cheater but he beats her when he gets home and the get into a fight over him cheating. In the video it's after she's beaten that she gets the gun and kills him.
He came to Nebraska last August and the university let him hold his show at Memorial Stadium and he sold out. 90,000 seats
It was written by Garth Brooks & Pat Alger.
Any time you get a phone call after 2:00 am there is going to be trouble!
As the story goes... nothings open after 2 but ER's and Legs. LOL
if you are able to find the official video he made for this, the 3rd verse is explained in better context.
Was it Dolly Pardon. She wrote and sang first the song Whitney Houston covered...I Will Always Love You
I graduated 6yrs before him from Yukon HS
F ing great songwriting
“Nothing good after 2am”…a line in Ed Sheeran’s new song Bad Habits. You should check it out!
LOL!!!
If you (and other subs are interested) here's a few Carrie Underwood songs to check out (she's sugar and spice and everything nice! lol!)
"BEFORE HE CHEATS" "DIRTY LAUNDRY"
"TIL I SEE YOU AGAIN" "WASTED"
"LAST NAME" "JUST A DREAM"
"GOOD GIRL"
"BLOWN AWAY"
Etc, etc, etc, and so on..... for some more Country reactions there's TONS of great artists (new and old) to explore!!! ;) ;)
My first thought was Shania Twain.
Who doesn't love a good rainstorm song?
Watch the one with the 3rd verse with the video! The video shows the story play out!
The official video cuts out that last line, but it shows that she was a battered wife. She couldn't take the cheating along with the abuse.
The song was taken off the radio because it talked about Domestic Abuse
The original video of this, Garth plays the part of the cheating husband who beats the girlfriend and when he gets home, he takes a swing at the wife. She has had enough and shoots him. The thunder rolls. The video was pulled and the last verse was removed for radio play. Domestic Violence was not talked about in polite company then.
Watch the video!
I just found the channel while looking up some G.B. 👍Good stuff.
Welcome aboard!
country radio wouldnt play the last verse on radio so most dont get to hear it unless he live
Please react to ABBA's:
1. Move On
2. One Man One Woman
3. Soldiers
4. Slipping through my fingers
5. Like an Angel Passing Through My Room
6. Does your mother know
7. He's your brother (Australia live 77)
8. Why did it have to be me (Australia live 77)
They sing how crazy country girls are but not how they would react in same sitchuation
The song was banned from radio not long after it came out.
“Once a cheater, always a cheater!!!”
Easy Teen. Perhaps the thunder rolls in the bathroom after eating your bowl of chili....jus saying.
