- In today's video, we're driving from Alexandria, VA to WMATA's Shepherd Parkway depot in SW DC. Today's bus is a battery electric and an articulated bus, both categories I have little experience with. Surprisingly easy to drive, once you get used the pivot point. Plenty of low end torque. Rattle heaven. Enjoy.
Bus: New Flyer Xcelsior CHARGE (XE60)
Propelsion:
ZF AVE 130 Electric Portal (2nd Axle)
Siemens ELFA3 (3rd Axle) - Авто/Мото
First ever Xcelsior POV video, should do more!
Thing sounds like a train with how much it rattles 💥🔥
I love how the bus sweeps when pulling a tight corner. The overhang buses are just an amazing concept. I especially like the buses with long overhang at the front and short overhang at the rear.
Bro was hauling down that expressway 😭
😂
Awesome video! Very happy to see you drive a New Flyer!
If there are any other Flyers, please do a video on them!
Glad you enjoyed! For sure, I will be driving more NFs.
Your bus driving videos are my white noise to help me sleep at night
This might be my favorite POV video ever. I've always wondered what it was like in the driver seat, looking in the mirrors during a turn and seeing the second half of the bus. Great video!
So this was probably my second time ever driving one of these and it was still weird to see that in real life haha. I am glad I could capture some of that on camera!
Well done driving with an XE60
first Xcelsior pov and first artic POV on youtube.. atleast outta North America. nice vid bro
I'm glad to see that Alexandria Transit finally went back to it's own buses.
These are absolutely amazing, when I get a job for the STM (transport company for my city) I want to do this
Oh wow! Very nice video! This is pretty nice for an electric bus!!
What?? It sounds like it's about to snap in half and fall apart lmao, the drivers area also looks ancient
Holy shit that thing is a rocket lmfaoooo. Blows the doors right off of my blue bird!
Give me a few weeks and I’ll let you have your way with another New Flyer product (My personal ex-SEPTA D40LF)
Count me in, brother
Excellent video, would love to drive one of these
Hi colleague, we are also thinking of introducing electric buses, it was nice to see.
Wow u should definitely do more 👍
Now this right here is unusual I've always wondered what a bendy bus is like to drive. If you ever have the chance I'd love to see some Nova LFS or the trusty ole Gillig Low Floor!
Phew you drove the more bouncier one, god bless you 😂😂😂 amazing video nevertheless! I would love to do this myself but you know lol
Definitely one of my favorite buses from dash. My favorite bus is 105
That's on my list to drive. That's a good bus!
I’d say the 2018 Gillig models are my favorite in the DASH fleet, especially 501 and 502. But they have speced the new buses quite nicely, and even introduced digital interior displays on a few of them
Wow you work with dash now 🔥🔥 this finna be awesome
Low key I've been with them for two years now 🤣. I'll be taking buses more often from now on tho
@@eugew23 LOL foo had a bunch of ancient videos driving for UM
I enjoyed this video... Any plans for any New Flyer from WMATA?
First xcelsiors I seen to go pass 60mph
can you a pov drive of a xd40?
Are these governor to 65?
Have any more transit bus POV’s in the works? Would love to see a LFS drive, or an older New Flyer (LFR/LF).
Not at the moment, unfortunately, I don't work for any place that has either of those around - I may know a guy with an LF though... We'll see lol
Wow I was just thinking about you. You’re with DASH now and no longer with the University?
bussy gang
The turn signal sound sounds like an Actia
What were your first thoughts on driving a 60 ft articulated bus? How did it feel driving as compared to the usual 40 ft buses?
its easier to drive then a regular 40ft
At first, it's pretty strange. You just can't believe it turns better than a 40'. Then you try cutting a corner and it really is remarkable. After a few minutes, it's second nature.
Whats your cam setup? Are you using a chest mounted GoPro?
I use a GoPro on my head. Hat clip mounts to the rim of a baseball cap, gets that perfect POV angle every time.
Range, power, specs?
You should drive a XDE40
seems like SOC drop from 57% to 52%, how long was the route? the efficiency looks impressive
It's not as impressive as you may think. The drive was under 10 miles, but also, the SOC readout is not very accurate and fluctuates greatly depending on the conditions.
Why does it rattle so much even if it's electric? Is it the suspension? Or just a lot of really loose objects every where?
The quieter the motor, the more rattles you hear. Low floor buses are typically more noisy regardless of whether they are diesel or electric.
Do you work for a company and if not how do get different buses all the time?
The buses that are in my videos represent the agencies that I work for. If I'm driving a bus, I work for that company.
Are you still doing Shuttle-UM?
On the side, yeah. Got too many friends there to keep up with 😂
It looks so much harder to drive a 60 ft. compared to a 40 ft. 🤯
Only at first!
I personally prefer driving a 60' artic vs 40' bus.
The neat part about driving a 60' artic is that the articulated section is moved by a hydraulic piston so it's more like driving a 35' bus as your pivot point is the middle of the artic instead of the back wheels. We've been told that the rear wheels in an artic will never off track more than 6 inches from the middle and so far that's been the case from what I've seen.
Only real risk to driving an artic is setting off the max angle sensor if you turn too sharply but I've been told that really only a risk on older models (2011 to 2014) or you are backing up.
All fun and games till you clip the curb
Hi Eugene hope it’s ok 👍🏾 4 too download ur video 4 playing on my bus simulator 21 it’s cool too watch keep up the great job.
Ohhhhhh I’m jealous! And I don’t even like New Flyer!
What's Up Buddy
Is WMATA doing partnership with DASH?
No, I was just there trying out their overhead chargers for the day.
@@eugew23 Ah. How was it?
I didn’t know dash was at shepherd parkway ?
I was there for a couple days in December just to play with your EV chargers lol
You should do Orion VII POV video
DASH don't have Orion VIIs.
@@dodge151517:37 are those Orion Vll's DASH buses or another transit agency bus?
@@Kipling45 Those were WMATA Metrobus Orion VIIs.
ive never seen a new flyer with keys
Just an ignition lockout for security!
My cousin javon works up there you probably know him lol
JJ? No way lmao
Yea we do cuzzo lol
I’m waiting til bro works for wmata
lmao ikr
@@eugew23if you do get hired are you gonna drive an train with pov?
Say what??? Your buses use keys?
Only for security measures. Ignition lockout.
Lots of new transit buses seem quite outdated compared to modern cars (analog gauges, keys, turn signals on the floor, etc.) It just isn’t as much of a priority for transit agencies to make the driver’s area modern when what exists works
Find a Nova LFS or a Proterra Catalyst
A Proterra drive is in the works.
