@@DeepDownInTheOcean I think the question is more like why you would have to choose if there can be both. (As someone from Europe, the busses here usually have both, even the coaches)
Your little guy that sets up in the front of the bus with you that little car that came around he said oh my he said they think there's something. You know if you're going from that cold to that hot in one day you're going to catch cold. My preference was always Prevost and the Carpenter school bus and since there was only one carpenter that they ever carried it was a International engine because it was only diesel that district ever had it had air brakes and air everything and that was before they ever dreamed of it. But it had a standard transmission air brakes air door and an air stop sign. My grandmother always had the preference for a superior coach with a Chevrolet engine. And I can't blame her it drove the easiest of any school bus I ever seen. a nice ride again you did a real nice job. Enjoyed every second of it
PS when James gets back he got a gift but I told him he has to give you a small taste of it. I don't want you have too much because it might start growth 😂
I'm a trucker and some of our trucks come with aftermarket Dometic stationary A/C that gets built in into the place of the roof window but in case of other trucks like my 2024 Volvo that uses the integrated A/C components as stationary cooling method same as your coach, I had the same problem many times over the summer when I wanted to turn it on and the condenser fan won't turn on. Turn on the A/C and then disconnect the cable from the condenser fan and reconnect it, that worked for me all the times. What I don't understand is why don't you just have the engine running if that's the only way you can run the A/C. It's not only for your own comfort but also for like 50+ passengers and A/C nowadays is a very basic requirement. Do you get penalized by the company for wasting fuel or what? Also why don't your rear wheels turn too? Usually I see them do that in case of these long double axle buses.
We do have a no-idle policy in order to save wear and tear on the vehicle as well as reduce fuel usage. On extended layovers where the temperature may get hot again, sometimes you inevitably have to fire up the bus early to get the temperature down. Of course, extreme hot and cold weather warrants partially disobeying the policy for passenger comfort (of which we do have modified idle policies for temps above 80F and below 32F). Not all models have steering tag axles. The MCI J4500 and Mercedes-Benz Tourrider both have steering tag axles, while the VanHool CX-45 and Prevost H3-45 do not. The H3-45 does have an automatic tag-lift on turns to improve the turning radius. The Tourrider has a very active steering tag axle in comparison the J4500 that can sometimes get you in trouble with the tail swing if you do not pay attention.
Shame the vanhools in America are so despised. In New Zealand, they are coveted for being luxurious vehicles. Mercedes too, but rarely operators opt for them besides Scandinavian and German MAN/Scania.
Motorcoaches are definitely considered a special privilege for schools to use in America. They're mostly only booked by schools for special events like prom or long distance field trips
@@alblua Sorry I didn't mean school lol I meann't vanhool lol, wth is wrong with my autocorrect? Some coaches in NZ are speced for multi-purpose school runs and coach charters.
That makes a little more sense! Roads and weather in the US (especially Midwest weather swings) are quite rough on a vehicle, so the suspension on a VanHool has a hard time keeping up and wear and tear is much more noticeable. I will give VanHools credit that they have a good cabin product and good AC system. MCIs and Prevosts, however, are built like a tank in comparison and hold their value, so they are much more preferred!
@@some_random_person00 No? I'm saying that VANHOOL buses are considered bad/poorly built in the USA whereas the buses we received for New Zealand were highly coveted for being luxurious high-ticket motor vehicles. It is a shame that the USA got the short straw.
It's quite different from driving a car! Mirrors are must to see where you pivot point is, otherwise you'll hit every curb. You need to be mindful about tail swing as well. The driving position also sits in front of the steer, so it's a slightly different perspective from a conventional car.
Hi Albert, so quick question. When you switched buses, did another driver bring the bus to you and bring the other bus back, or did you swap with another driver, and the other driver use the bus you had for the return trip?

Ironically I was driving a 2016 Van Hool yesterday and AC couldn’t keep up with the 95° heat. It was brutal!
