    Firstly, this is possibly *the best episode y'all have created and shared.* So, kudos on the accomplishment.
    Now, on to Atomic. As someone who comes from the same world as father Tom, Daniel and Chloe, they are building perhaps the best product I've seen to date.
    Tradeshows disappeared literally overnight with COVID. The first thing to go and the last to come back. So, there went 3/4 of our business!
    While entertainment work and public space interiors saw us through the pandemic, with entertainment, the deadlines are insane, as are the expectations. There's a huge difference between what can be dreamt and what can actually be built.
    Public space interiors, while awesome projects, they're just huge in scale, as well as notoriously slow to pay.
    As a vanlifer myself, I chose to pivot to campervan conversions; expanding into trucks and trailers before finding upfitting work vans to be both satisfying and profitable.
    That's where I landed with my CNC and 3D printing skills and machines. So it's wonderful to see Atomic pivoting as they have, while taking building tiny homes to the next level. This is how every builder should be doing it. If yours isn't, do yourself a favor and find someone who is!

    the most expensive building material is the stuff that ends up in the dumpster, you paid for it, then throw it away and pay to have it removed.
    I have seen the dumpsters on construction sites, its sick what gets thrown away. I like that they are trying to build with less waste.

    • @TinyHouseExpedition
      @TinyHouseExpedition  Год назад +8

      Yes! It’s nuts how much waste there is in new construction. We did a bit of dumpster diving at local build site when we built our tiny home and scored some perfectly good sheets of plywood, among other things 😅

As a tiny home owner, I would personally want to see them work a bit more on maxing storage and workable kitchen space. (I prioritized a lot of kitchen space and made other spaces more multifunctional in my home). One of the things I love about tiny homes is transformable furniture- not everyone likes that but done well it can really add functionality to a space and with their CNC machine it seems they could take their innovations up a notch even further in that way.

    A nice start. I agree with the comments regarding a 10ft width. It can make a great deal of difference in livability. You didn’t mention the ceiling height on the loft area. Can you stand? Also, I am considering a single level 40ft for when I can no longer maintain my current home. So the most important feature to me is the kitchen. These seem very small. I would like about three times the amount of counter space shown. Second on my list is an office area. I’m an artist and writer. So having sufficient desk space and a cozy but efficient work space is paramount for me. I’ve always thought I would have an adjacent additional finished shed for a small studio as well that could be juxtaposed to the house with connecting porch. I think storage is very important as well, so some creative ideas for that would be nice. Where do you eat? Didn’t see anything about that.

    What I would love to see is a tiny home built for a couple with one chid and 2 bedrooms that has an area already built into the wall where an additional add on bedroom, bathroom or even a mudroom/pantry later if another child comes along. It would be so much cheaper to add on than to have to move to conventional housing.

    Excellent build quality, I especially love the fit and finish. CNC machining is definitely the way to build tiny homes IMO. My excitement dimmed however when I heard the starting price for these homes. I hope you can get the price point down. You should look into building smaller homes in the 20 and 24ft. range for singles, the elderly and retirees who maybe don’t need as much square footage Also, look for more ways to dim the price, Anderson windows are great but they are probably one of the most expensive brands. These homes don’t appear to be ADA compatible, don’t overlook people with disabilities. There is definitely a need but there is also a need for affordability on the lower end of the affordability spectrum. These homes are definitely well built. Thanks, I enjoyed watching the video.

    Nice home, but why not move the washer/dryer unit up about a foot higher into the cubby above. The cubby next to that one would then be half its size. Once the washer/dryer unit is moved up, you have room for one or two cubbies below it. With the washer/dryer practically on the floor, one has to practically stand on one's head to use the thing! I'm 73 years old and can still touch my toes, but even so, I could never reach back into that unit to put my clothes in or take them out! Keep in mind, elderly people buy tiny homes, too. But even a young person would have a difficult time getting their clothes in and out of that, unless they'd lie down on the floor! You should have an employee live in your homes for a few weeks to test everything out just to see how liveable/unliveable they are, then make the necessary changes.

      @@TinyHouseExpedition Thank you! My ex-husband built homes and taught me a lot. I also have a degree in art and just naturally have a knack for design. During my many years I've done all kinds of design: graphic design, landscape design, interior design. All in all, your homes look great and seem solid! I appreciated your response! I like that you're not too proud to accept input from potential customers!😉👍👍

    Love the CNC, saving materials & build time. But the house shown tries to do too much. 3 bedrooms just don’t fit in a 400 squ ft home very well. You sacrifice kitchen storage & counter space, well sized appliances and clothing storage. And I think an interior decorator could recommend some improvements in the look of the place.

    My second comment is related to my first comment, the way Liv-connect setup their website is the same way your website should look, I am not sure if your company is the same as liv-connect? But their website is more direct in terms of details and use. Their pricing is high but looking at what is available makes it a lot more appealing!

    Yes,this cnc is greatl I wonder if it really affordable for the average person?

    • @TinyHouseExpedition
      @TinyHouseExpedition  Год назад

      Good question! It’s about 1/3 of the cost of an average US home which is significant so should be much more affordable for many. With that said, we do hope that can get there costs down to have models beginning about $30k-45k less. It seems that should be possible as they fine tune the build process to be more & more efficient. 🤔 Another commenter suggested they offer kits. We love that idea for even more cost savings for DIYers!

      I've built my own tiny house (still working on it) and I'm a builder myself, so I know how much time it takes to predict all the details. Good business model as well. I've lived in London (south London and utside in Surrey) Now back to Poland.
      Great work you doing and the other channels to promote alternative livimg and how creative it can be.
      CNC machines and CAD designing definitely speeds up the process of production, allowing to keep good wages for tradesmans who can focus on details and it all helps to keep the afforfable final product price. Also to maitain the profitability of the business.
      Otherwise is hard to stay in business in those over-regulated and all "made in China" stuff.
      Next step is probably the flat-pacs like IKEA.... kits. To do it yourself... this can safe many people from beiing or staying homeless.... just cheap tiny..tiny insulated mini house ... that could help people survive and be human again. Or after some natural disasters... like earthquakes....
      Good luck for all of you.
