I love it when you show a nice-sized quilt that doesn't use up an entire jelly roll ... so I could make one for myself, and a matching one for a friend, with maybe one having a light-coloured background using the darker strips in a roll, and the other having dark-coloured background using the lighter jelly roll strips, to ensure good contrast so the lovely pattern really "pops". Thank you, Donna!! ~Diana K.

Please note that my quilt does not follow the pattern exactly. All the blocks are made correctly, but I turned some of my blocks a different way than what is shown on the pattern. Just goes to show you that even experienced quilters can still have trouble following a pattern! - Donna

Nina from Virginia... Your version is beautiful too. It goes to show how arranging the same blocks makes different patterns. I love everything you do Donna.

    • @HRHDMKYT
      @HRHDMKYT 4 года назад +1

I actually had to do two screen shots to compare them side by side to see the difference! (Daniela's original pattern "frames" the mostly-solid blocks with the dark accent strips, giving it the illusion of large circles when you step back from it, whereas Donna your layout "frames" the 9-patch blocks). I think if you're going for the illusion of curves, stick with the original pattern layout, but if, as I, you like the near-solid blocks to appear almost as if they are piercing the 9-patch blocks and have seemingly extra pointy corners, go with Donna's layout. Both are lovely, really!

It’s still beautiful. Thanks for the disclosure too. My pattern came with a color diagram for sewing the rows. I made the king size and numbered the rows. To prevent a mistake I used the diagram to get the row started properly. Your tutorial aids in getting the project organized and less confusing. Thanks Donna

Donna, I think your version of the Bellagio quilt is much more interesting than the pattern version in all respects. I love your placing of the black accent strips, and the colors you chose are a very interesting array. Nothing is predictable, and I like that.

Your variation on the pattern looks great. The original has a more formal look with the black stripes surrounding the single coloured (with inner background) block, but your variation adds a lot of fun with the black stripe framing the nine patch, which I think really suits the playfulness of the colour scheme. I always look forward to your videos, and can’t wait for the next one!

Suggestion. Choose several patterns, and do a vote... for which of the 3 patterns that the viewers would like to see you make. That would be fun, you can do an i-card vote on your next video and people can vote. Then you can make that quilt for a future video. OR, you could choose a pattern and offer a vote on 3 colorways and let us vote on a colorway. How fun would that be.

i just love, love your quilts but wish you would make more, more tutorials. Lol. I can't get enough of your videos. I have learned so much. I am 56 years old & I am disabled & I am finally getting a area big enough in my trailer to finally do some major quilting. I had to get two rooms opened up into one big room in order for me to quilt as a hobby. That is what i love to do but i never had enough room in order to make bigger quilts. I use to be an over the road truck driver with my Husband. I got sick in 2011 with breast cancer & other complications so that caused me to have way too much down time. So, in those years up till now. I taught myself how to quilt with yours & also with Jenny from missouri star quilt videos helped me along the way. I have two girls with 3 grandkids & i made my grandkids a quilt with there names & birthday on them. I actually have a sewing machine that embroiders. I just love to hear your videos in the very beginning when you say, hi I am Donna Jordan from Jordan Fabrics. If somehow i miss you say that when i play your videos, that i would have to rewind the video to the very beginning of the tape just to hear you say that.. Why? I don't know! haha,. It's funny that i have to hear you say that. It would make my day if somehow I could meet you & Jenny! I know that would be impossible because i live in Kentucky & i can't get around like i did before. There was one cozy quilts pattern that you made that I had to buy. So, i did & it is kinda Ironic because to this day, I still have not made that quilt yet. But, I will, soon as i build this space so i can!! I just wanted to say a few words to tell you how much i love your videos & please don't stop!! I will be buying some material from you soon. I know i could get my materials closer to home. But, i just wanted to show you how much i appreciate you taking the time to show people like me how to put a quilt together by purchasing some items from you. *Just saying* = I miss seeing your husband in some of your videos. Have some more tutorials with your husband in them. He sounds like he is a great help to you. haha. Well, I hope you all have a great life & success for years to come! God bless you all.

I read your entry and I can relate, for me it was a "close call" with what could have been very bad, I was diagnosed with melanoma on my face. I have been blessed with a good doctor, he was very compassionate and very aggressive with my treatment. praise be to God the melanoma is gone, but it took three years to get rid of it. Two years of active treatment and one year to recover. In the meantime I decided to learn to quilt, I agree with you, Donna and Matt Jordan are tremendous teachers. I watch them as often as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if you wrote that you watched their videos and said to yourself, " I can do that!" It's the best feeling in the world. Take care!

Yours looks so different from the one pictured on the pattern. I had to look a long time to figure it out. On the pattern I see the illusion of circles/rings in places, but no matter how I look I don’t see that on yours. Then it hit me: it is the direction you placed the blocks with the black strips..you have the black touching the nine-patch blocks rather than the other. Really totally changes the look of the quilt. It would be interesting to see the quilt done up in the same fabrics but the blocks oriented the same as in the pattern picture....

    • @kathyeubanks5524

OMG Donna, I had to re -watch this several times to see the difference in the layout. I finally caught it in the secondary pop. Danielle's shows a circle and yours shows a square. Both are great; the square with the same background is a bit more on the modern look and the circle with slightly darker set in triangle would be really fab in say Kansas Trouble fabrics... Let's make that one this year. lol

As usual, a very 'comforting tutorial', I always feel like we are just friends chatting about a quilt. I couldn't help noticing the change from the pattern, which in itself is a plus option! The black lines go around the solids on the pattern whereas they go around the 9 patch squares in your quilt. So this lovely pattern can go two ways with two very different looking designs!

Donna is there any reason your bellagio quilt come out different than the pattern trying to go figure out mine matched yours but looking back at the episode me following your tutorial and looking back we put the dark stripped around wrong block.

I have a little game I like to play when I watch your videos. It’s called- which color thread will she pick? Love your videos. I’ve made several. Working on the urban cottage right now. I’ve also done Jacobs ladder, the 5 star quilt, and I’m quilting the hanging lanterns one for my aunt.

Donna I didn't notice it at first but the blocks on the packaged image of the quilt shows them in different placements then how you laid yours out for 2 distinctive looks. The solid squared blocks have the black around them and the 9 patch looking one is where you put your solid ones. Talk about double takes. Nicely done!! Love your videos!!

Donna, I think your quilts are stunning. Yet they are practical in that you’d want them in your home, in every room! And a style for every person on your gift list. I made the Cozy Quilts Braidwork Quilt for my granddaughter and sent photos through email. Hope you got them. Happy quilting, everyone!

At first I was really underwhelmed by the colors you chose, just wasn't sold at all, but once it was finished it was absolutely gorgeous. Donna your super sharp eye for pattern, texture, and color never ceases to amaze me 😊

I can hardly skip a day of watching your tutorials, they are my favorite and I watch a lot of MSQC Jenny Doan & Angela Waters / Midnight Quilt show. I love the Bellagio and plan to stitch it soon for my Daughter in law who is an Executive for MGM at Bellagio in Vegas....so I must! My good friend & I are making a special day road trip (~6 hr rd trip) to Grants Pass, OR from Corvallis, Oregon this Sat. 8/3/19 specifically to visit your shop for the first time. I am soo excited, and we hope to meet you, Matt & family. See ya soon, D.D. & Anita

I think she put the blocks together differently than in the pattern. It isn't just the colorway. I had to do a triple take before I could figure it out.
