believe it or not,im an old guy who hasnt listened to a lot of tool, just a song here and there. your video and playing made me decide that i need to check out some more tool music, besides, i love les pauls, so thanks,my man! great playing
I think a good analogy is think of a Martin d18, and a d28.. the Les Paul custom being the 28, tighter bass response, while the standard -18 can ring out more and have a sound that draws you in, I feel like the custom sound is more complex but at the same time it has a pleasant thuddiness to the notes. They quickly get out of the way of each other without ringing out as much as the standard. While palm muting comes into play you don't have to reign in the custom as much
I’ll take the Adam Jones custom. Just saw tool for the 9th time and again Adam and the guys blew the roof off the venue. Easily my favorite band ever. If you’ve never seen tool live do yourself a favor and go see them. 🤘🤘
Thanks. Great comparison. I’m talking to a friend who works for a seller to get me one. He claims I could get the Friends and Family 20% off so I’m gonna pull the trigger. That’s like 500$.
Pretty spot on how I feel. The extra cost is mostly for aesthetics , plus a placebo feeling of finally owning my dream guitar. The fret work is a little better on the custom but every thing else between the two is pretty parallel.
@@cvkballisticrhino1393 Congrats on getting your dream guitar though. I'd love to pull the trigger on one of these but I think my wife would divorce me :)
??? I have both and the feel alone is considerably different. Kinda like driving’s base model car vs a limited. Looking from the outside they both look the same you actually drive it quite a bit of difference. But I love them both
How do you manage to buy a 2022 LPC silverburst ? Because on gibson website there is only black and white color option for LPC. To my taste, only LPC Adam Jones and non signature one are considered proper silverburst. An LP standard silveburst is no different than ESP Eclipse with the same color. If ESP still made that color, I would pick ESP instead of gibson one.
I bought it used from the original owner. It's a demo shop model, they pop up new on reverb from the gibson demo shop every once in a while. Aside from that, you'd have to order one to be made new and wait for a long time for it to be built.
Curios about the mirror? Did you attach the one that came with the Customer to the standard? The standard doesn’t come with the mirror. If you bought it, can you tell me where? Thanks.
Thanks! That might be fun to do! For this video its basically just the guitar into a MLC vanilla sky overdrive, into the amp(MLC subzero 60) with a boss dd8 delay in the fx loop. I also used a captor x to record.
1:18 I hate when Gibson puts stuff on their guitars like this. Just because they're obsessed with their own marketing doesn't mean everyone else cares that it's their 70th anniversary. I know it's a nitpick, but it's like the Les hologram they did once. Just my personal taste. Fantastic playing, and both guitars sound great.
Thanks! I hear ya. I hated the anniversary inlays, and also the sticker that damages the finish upon removal. This backplate I don't mind though. It did come with an extra blank one in the case that can easily be swapped out, but I prefer the design on the anniversary plate. The guitar looks cool, and makes it easy to date.
What's the biggest differences when playing between the custom and the standard, in your opinion? Also, how long did your standard come in? I order one myself and it seems like it's taking forever!
The frets on the custom feel a little smoother, and it also has a slightly thinner neck than the AJ. The standard is still an amazing axe, with the custom only really being marginally better play wise. I got lucky and found a dealer (Carter Vintage guitars) that had the standard in stock the first week they were out.
@@cvkballisticrhino1393 the fret inlays of the Custom will often make the neck feel buttery, that is why the first fret is also inlaid. Open chords feel and sound sweeter!
I like the custom better but it is twice the price and no longer available to buy new so would save the money and get the LP Adam Jones Standard to have money left over for a Diezel VH4 the amp he uses.
AJ Sig sounds warmer and punchier, as LP Standards always do compared to the stiffer sounding LPC. It takes a lot longer to break in a LPC. Technically the AJ Sig Standard is a LPC without the bling. Maybe the pickups are the only significant difference. Great review and comparison.

I went and bought the standard after seeing this. Thanks.

Perfectly played those Adam demos man. I was like wait a minute. Love the recreation of the riffs
thankyou!
I have the AJ Standard and wish i could play half that good. I put it on repeat it was so good 🤘🏼
Another stellar video, my dude!
Much appreciated!
Incredible tone. That thing screams!! Oh you’re a badass too.
As are you🤘
Both sound AMAZING under gain, but I think the Custom handles cleans better. I'd take either, though!
I’ll take the Adam Jones custom. Just saw tool for the 9th time and again Adam and the guys blew the roof off the venue. Easily my favorite band ever. If you’ve never seen tool live do yourself a favor and go see them. 🤘🤘
Standard sounds only slightly flatter, but still amazing
Great video and superb playing. Both guitars sound awesome. 🤘💜
Awwww shucks! Thank you!
What pickup you got in the bridge in custom?
I like how you’re playing unreleased Tool riffs from live performances. I think the signature standard handles the Jones tones a little better.
It's the pickups
What's the track in the background after the intro? Sound great

Where did you get the Gibson shirt with the heptagon for the i ?
There is a guy who makes them on the "Adam Jones guitar collectors" facebook group.
@@cvkballisticrhino1393 thank you. Ugh I hate Facebook with a passion, I'll try googling.

What song is it at 4:41?
It's not really a song. It's a riff that adam jones played at a leaked sound check that I liked so I learned how to play it.
Most excellent sounds.
🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
I think the custom sounds better across the board but the difference is so minuscule as to not warrant the price difference.

Swap the pickups and the Les Paul Custom is the better Silverburst hands down.

What’s the name of that switch tip on the first custom
I searched "metal switch tip les paul" on ebay. Same one that comes on the adam jones standard.

That is a hellish ripping tone. You must have spent a lot of time learning these songs. I want that sound.
Thanks! I try to practice daily. And it took me long time to get all the pieces for the tone itself.
why did you only play pinch harmonics on the custom and not the standard?
Custom sounds better to me.
Custom all day
for double the price
What song is 4:08 ?
Its a riff Adam does during sound check that I found audio of. Not an actual song.

Pretty sure you have brand new strings on the standard and used / broken-in strings on the custom which gives the custom a huge edge
No, both were recorded after a fresh change. Both have nyxl 10-46. I believe the biggest difference is in the pickups
AJ uses skinny top heavy bottoms I think

lol breaking in LPCs, you should charge doing that
