the price seems to be dictated by what collectors are willing to pay on the open market, one could say gibson underpriced them. Only Gibson could reissue this so its not like there is an alternative for comparison. With something like this money is relative, its a ratio of how much disposable capital you have to how much you desire it. But you arent wrong, Gibson could have stepped it up a little bit more.

Nice job laying all of this out. I have a 1979 Silverburst that I bought in 1981 from the first owner. I remember being bummed out years ago when the split in the top showed up, and the guitar "yellowed." It's fun to see how those are now thought of as desirable evidence of the natural aging of the real thing. To this day nothing else feels like the neck of this guitar, and the tone is amazing. Keep up the good work.

Great comparison. I’d kill to nab an early 80s silverburst. Amazing instruments. One note: the bridge pickups are the DDJ Distortions, hand wound by MJ. She was asked to do them just like the originals she did for SD in the 80s. Gibson also used a Dimarzio pot like Adam has for the bridge humbucker. Overall they are really cool (pricey though I’d rather get an original for the money). You should try to get a hold of the Jerry Cantrell Wino model. I’m drooling over that one.

exactly, I can guarantee you that the blanks, are already pre-carved to the same exact specification (top curve), even an amateur like me who never worked with wood, would find a solution to make a straight edge, for example, carving a wooden block to the curve, or maybe even slapping putty on the guitar then squeeze it down with a wooden block, wait for it to harden and you got a perfect curve conforming straight edge. As said, those two ideas popped into my mind the exact same second Troggly said the line isn't straight, and as said, never worked with wood or anything similar. Another one that just popped into my mind is probably using a laser liner and just following the laser line.

I hope to see more vintage Silverbursts on this channel. I have 4 of them:) 3 x 1980 and 1 x 1981 :) Yes, the originals with the stock pickups are very chimney and versatile. Plus with lower output vintage pickups seem to work really well with overdrive and fuzz pedals. One of mine has a JB installed from the original owner and I had new jumbo frets installed as well. Doing those 2 things alone to a vintage model makes feel and sound more modern. Interestingly, one of my models also has the slightly chunkier C shaped neck profile. These guitars do have a crazy unique sound to them with tons of character. Thanks for the in depth review!

The new ebony is very grey and almost dusty looking, all the ones I've played are "scratchy" feeling. I do recall they used to stain a lot of ebony, but not anymore. Just like you said, mother of pearl is always better on vintage.

my jaw dropped at the black light portion. absolutely wild. (Very unfamiliar with this test with vintage, so it was new to me.)
Also Brian RIPPING Gibson on basically doing a shitty job -albeit very politely- was hilarious. i was dying. lol
and it didn't feel like 48 minutes at all.

Thanks for bringing these silverbursts in the Trogly spotlight. I vividly remember seeing my first LP Custom silverburst in 1983 at Daddy's Junky Music in Boston. It was glorious and way out of my beginner (at the time) price range.

I'd love to see a comparison between a Gibson custom shop aged and a Fender custom shop aged and see who does it better.

I wish we got more info on the custom wound pickups, they've been a big part of the mystery of the guitar. Also, they shop missed the giant ren and stimpy wood etch into the back of adams lol

For that price, it should be gibson who makes this kind of video. Gibson should make video comparing their creation with Adam personal guitar. Let us know how close this guitar with Adam's guitar. Trogly video actually shows the difference between his guitar and this signature guitar. And there are many small different. So I don't know whether Gibson just makes a close enough recreation or those different detail are really there on Adam's guitar. If I were to pay for that price, I wanted to make sure it has at least 95% similarity to Adam's guitar. Close enough isn't enough.

Looks like you are comparing an early 80’s example to these 79 reissues. I could be wrong but I think the vintage example you are using has a mahagony neck vs maple. I own a 79 silverburst and the tone is spot on to the sound Adam Jones is getting. I can’t imagine the reissues nailing the heft of the original so I was surprised to hear that you think the reissues are somehow more accurate to his tone than an original. I would be happy to upload a video showcasing an actual 79 example if you have any interest. Really enjoyed the video and your content is great! Bizarre that these reissues are fetching more than an original. I would much rather have a 59 standard than a Jimmy Page Reissue. My guess is time will need to pass to allow public perception to catch up to reality. The shiny new limited run is somehow overshadowing the originals that are actual gibson history and the actual guitar he uses.

It makes sense that the vintage posi-locks have teeth on the back because if the strap button twists, you will drop your guitar. The teeth prevent twisting due to torque on the ends of the button.

All your silverburst videos have me Jonesing for a Silverburst lol (pun intended) . . Actually your videos make me hate myself for not buying the silversburst custom I saw at a pawn shop some years ago for$800. I just saw that Gibson and Adam Jones decided to redo the 13 stolen guitars with a special headstock appointment. Can't wait to see what it is. Keep up the good work, keep on rockin!

So, unless Adam's guitar is a unicorn from the norlin era. Gibson shit the bed...again. This work is poor. And mixing brand new hardware with what is supposedly older hardware is what used cars salesmen do. These guitars aren't built with players in mind at all.

I like the one in the middle. If I get a les Paul it's got to have the pick guard. To me it just gives it a little bit more classier look to it.

I really liked the vintage better than the aged, then the VOS. The mods he did to his guitar really makes it shine though. I could see him playing any of them in concert and no one would know the difference once it was mixed. As always, your playing has gotten amazing. Only you could have pulled this off. The VOS sounded a little muted and dull compared to the other two, but that could be my ear phone's.
