Saw her a few years ago. Still has that richness in her voice. She could sing the contents of the Yellow Pages and make it sound interesting. I was a spotty faced lad when she made it into the charts. I loved her then and I still love her now. How beautiful is she too? One amazing singer 😍😍
That voice is unforgettable. I still remember my mother buying Alf and being stunned by those powerful vocals. And I was only 16. Maybe the most versatile female vocalist I've heard.
For me this is the best song by Alison Moyet. I love her voice and I love the fact that this song is uplifiting and melancholic at the same time. Many years ago I had something with a beautiful sexy girl at a party and when I left I drove home and the first song that came up randomly on my iPod was this one. Although the lyrics don't match my situation this song always reminds me of that time.
Yazoo was the soundtrack to my early teens, I love them so much. Alison's voice is and was unique, Thanks to you Alison and to Vince Clarke, amazing tunes, amazing times. We didn't know just how good we had it. ❤
I first discovered this amazing artist and song in 2019. I got the French & Saunders box set and on series one she preformed this and I instantly fell in love. I've just ordered her best of album 💖
My baby daughter died. She had Edwards Syndrome, it was a miracle that she was born alive with the defects inside her tiny body. She had a powerful energy that I've never experienced from any other human being. A quiet, ethereal presence. She left a profound mark on everyone that followed her story to the end. She was so special. Not an ordinary girl. But I'm so, so heartbroken. These lyrics seem to fit so well 💖 (click to expand) "And I could only ask her why And she just smiled and told me one day I would learn. Don't you worry, this will all make sense to tomorrow Don't be sorry, that everything we've shared will fade away There's so much much more to see in each new day They'll never understand I'm not an ordinary girl"
I loved this song when it came out. As a young queer it totally resonated with the pressures we felt in the 80s to conform to heteronormative gender and sexual orientation expectations. Many of us could only be our true selves by leaving home and felt we weren't ordinary. To me this is a song about a young person losing their lesbian best friend who moves to a city to escape small town bigotry.
LOVE, LOVE this song. So moving... The video is a bit silly, however, it's like the director didn't even listen to the lyrics. And it's hilarious to see Alison struggling to keep her eyes open because of the fan they're blowing in her face !!!
I love this song so much - I only discovered it a couple of years back, I wasn’t born when it was released. To me the lyrics speak to me around the death of someone close to me who knew she was dying. About parting ways and the person who was dying saying it was ok to let go and - that i needed to crack on with my life and not worry about her being gone or crying for the past but to look forward to new experiences in my life. She said she wanted to go so that we would be free of her suffering ‘it is the only way for everyone concerned, she said.’ At the time I didn’t get it, but this wise and wonderful reassured me that her leaving was okay and that everything would be fine. The lyrics of this song capture all of this perfectly for me. The words are so hopeful and fearless, which was exactly what she was like. She was definitely ordinary and extraordinary. It wasn’t a Sunday afternoon she left on but a Wednesday afternoon. She really did take nothing but her clothes - the ones she was buried in xx
Always loved her....amazing voice back catalogue full of classics especially with Vince Clarke as yahoo...her live album is superb ....keep on going please
why wasn't this a massive hit ?this song is amazing I think this songwriter also wrote comfort me by Frida from ABBA's second solo album shine produced by Steve Lilly white with Kirsty maccoll on backing vocals
I moved into my new house and I couldn't make up my mind on what kind of washing machine to get. Top load or front load. Well you can guess what I decided after falling in love with this video. This is how I make decisions when logic fails.
Does anyone know of "La Llorona" the bànd invented by Xaime Hernandez for 'Californian Mexican 'graphic novel "Love and Rockets"?, that features two beautiful -bi women, Margarita Chascarlillo and Hopey Glass. When I heard this, i imagined Alison fronting this group, giving depth, soul and permanency to the quarrellsome members. Even persuading the lesbian singer Terry Downe to stay! Ah...the hopes of youth!
Shame they done such a low budget video for such a great under rated song. I don’t think this song was promoted well at all at the time it came out. It was like it was pushed to one side by the record company and radio. Should of been a big hit at the time and wasn’t. Is this love and I go weak was from the album. But then I found that they promoted them two songs well but not this one. It’s so strange why?. Anyway great song with a great meaning to it. I’m sure a lot of girls out there can relate to this song.
What a bizzare video.... Of course the stunning Alison is gorgeous and totally normal but what's going on beside her is just a little bit random and weird. lolz
Ok, why did I think it? Not that im anti gay, just always thourght she was. Anyway thanks for letting me know, I can now try to pull her.....bloody hell we could have been married by now.......x

Did I see Robert Fripp in the background at 2:31?
Nightcore pls xD
2024
The problem is the marketing, she is soo good
This sounds like a Smiths song.
Her best song in my opinion but it never even made the Top 40
What a bizzare video.... Of course the stunning Alison is gorgeous and totally normal but what's going on beside her is just a little bit random and weird. lolz
Not wishing to insult here, but its a bloody shame she plays for the other side. She is all kinds of lovely. On top of the talent obviously.
andrew wilson....she's not gay.
Ok, why did I think it? Not that im anti gay, just always thourght she was. Anyway thanks for letting me know, I can now try to pull her.....bloody hell we could have been married by now.......x

"Ffs,Is she or is'nt She?I want my Bed.
James Gilmour - she's definitely straight.
