Right on. I bought the 7" record of this in 1991 and wore it out. I adore it and now it's the anthem to me protecting under privileged kids in my current job. Breaks my heart that this haunting classic only reached number 40 in the charts at the time
This song is so hauntingly beautiful. I can't believe more haven't viewed and listened. Alison is a powerhouse and so underrated. At nearly 60, I still come back to listen over and over. 🥰
What a song, just purchased the best of Alison Moyet and heard this song for the first time and just can't stop listening to it, how did I miss it the first time around.
Vashna I really don’t understand part of your comment but this song was her album Alf which was released in the 80s after her and Vince Clarke went their separate ways yes I agree yazoo were brilliant but so was Alison when she went solo her voice is amazing especially live in concert this song though is outstanding why they never released it as a single it would have smashed the charts for sure
This was the song I happened to listen to when my mother died 21 years ago. And every time I listen to this song I have fond memories of my mum. Amazing song, thank you Alison Moyet. (And I did buy the CD).
This is why I love Alison. The emotion and depth of this is almost crushing. And the voice, like no other. Today's pop tartlets simply don't have this kind of talent or capability.
Just seen this for the first time in about 15 years and its literally blown me away. One of the most talented singers I have seen in my life and a legacy of music to back up the acolade. This one will always be in my heart though for a few reasons I can't put on here. Amazing track.
Absolute perfection in the song and video production. Alison is an amazing performer live on stage, I simply adore her voice and I’m hoping to see her next year in March. Her voice sends shivers down my spine, so deep and perfect! 👏👏👏👏
Proprio così. A me trasmette la stessa emozione anche un'altra sua esecuzione: "the windmills of your mind" con il video del film "The Thomas Crown Affair"✨💞
The most beautiful voice , when im feeling down I listen to her songs , her voice is incredible , she just sort of resets the balance , thanks Alison , Beautiful
Love this song so much, everytime it gives me goosebumps... Seen her sing this in lytham, Lancashire 9.7.22 and was absolutely amazing. So glad we've still got this fabulous voice to listen too. X
I have loved this song for ages. I didn't even realise there was a vid to it. Talk about a double bonus one hell of an emotional song and finding a vid. This is one for two of my playlists. This is one woman who shows that the so called ideal is not all it is set up to be. She is beautiful and that beauty outshines any of the so called ideal women that the media portrays.
Hi All,In a recent interview that she did, Alison said that of all the songs that she wrote individually or as a co-written song, this is the one that she is most proud of...too right what a brilliant song and one that was never played listed on Radio...What a shame...
Whose sticky hands are these And what is this empty place I could be happily lost But for your face Here stands an empty house That used to be full of life Now it's home for no one And his wife It's a hovel and (Who) Who can take your place I can't face another day And (Who) Who will shelter me It's cold in here Cover me Under these fingertips A strange body rolls and dips I close my eyes And you're here again Later as day descends I'll shout from my window To anyone listening I'm losing (Who) Who can take your place I can't face another day And (Who) Who will shelter me It's cold in here Cover me Oh, in a plague of hateful questioning Tap dancing every syllable from ear to ear I hear the din of lovers jousting When I'm hiding with my head to the wall So (Who) Who will shelter me It's cold in here. Probably her best song she's written. Beautiful.
One of the most beautiful voices of the 80's 90' 2000...2010...2020...2023
and 2024!
24. 25 .inmortal song .thanks alllison.. ❤❤❤

This is not "Popular music", it is a real good music with amazing voice of Alison Moyet back in 90s. RUclips was born in 2005.
This song is so hauntingly beautiful. I can't believe more haven't viewed and listened. Alison is a powerhouse and so underrated. At nearly 60, I still come back to listen over and over. 🥰
In my opinion the best thing she ever released. Amazing.
What a song, just purchased the best of Alison Moyet and heard this song for the first time and just can't stop listening to it, how did I miss it the first time around.
Me too
I can resonate with this song. When my Mum passed away and I was living in her house, I totally felt like this.
Probably one of the greatest songs of loss ever recorded. Beyond.
She could sing a shopping list and I'd be in awe......stunning as always.
On CDs her singing's better, unless it's a live recording....
The most insanely underated female singer EVER!!!!!! Her vocals and lyrics are hauntingly beautiful and the video is stunning XxXxXx
No I don't agree with you she was huge in the 80s. Loved yazoo.. And when she went solo she had a lot of hits.
Totally agree
@@vashnanerada8757 I love just post-yazoo Alison. The older... the better and better.
This song only went as high as number 40 in the top 40 charts. Total travesty. I adore it 31 years later

This is why I love Alison. The emotion and depth of this is almost crushing. And the voice, like no other.

the album is so perfect .je t aime Alison Moyet .
I'm 80 years old and only a Doowop fan through and through, but this song might be the greatest lyrics written from the heart.
Ihre Stimme geht so dermaßen unter die Haut. Sie erreicht mich in meiner Seele. Es ist schön und traurig zugleich.
Proprio così. A me trasmette la stessa emozione anche un'altra sua esecuzione: "the windmills of your mind" con il video del film "The Thomas Crown Affair"✨💞

I agree with what you say about the emotion and depth being almost crushing. It encapsulates the feeling of loss so well.
Absolutely love this. Even more amazing if you get to see her sing it live.
Wow! Straight from the heart, wonderful song x
Such a sad song but full of meaning
A great song by the best singer in world
I wonder who this song was written about. Hauntingly beautiful!
Whose sticky hands are these
And what is this empty place
I could be happily lost
But for your face
Here stands an empty house
That used to be full of life
Now it's home for no one
And his wife
It's a hovel and
(Who)
Who can take your place
I can't face another day
And
(Who)
Who will shelter me
It's cold in here
Cover me
Under these fingertips
A strange body rolls and dips
I close my eyes
And you're here again
Later as day descends
I'll shout from my window
To anyone listening
I'm losing
(Who)
Who can take your place
I can't face another day
And
(Who)
Who will shelter me
It's cold in here
Cover me
Oh, in a plague of hateful questioning
Tap dancing every syllable from ear to ear
I hear the din of lovers jousting
When I'm hiding with my head to the wall
So
(Who)
Who will shelter me
It's cold in here.
Who will shelter me?It's cold in here....So cold....So cold without you my LOVEEEE....
Powerful,Emotioal,Moving.................her finest hour?
Magic song 💓
Sublime vocal performance!
for 20 years i search for this amazing song!!!
