  • The RC F is loud aggressive and not really for this day and age. Much like a T-Rex. But with killer looks, proper V8, noise of the gods... What's not to like?

    Am I the only one who likes this car? I thought it was a bit of a funny looker til I saw a beautiful blue one next to me which took off like a mad man when the traffic in front of us cleared. I love the interior, I like the way it sounds and yes, I LOVE the looks. Polarizing is the best way to describe this car. It may be a lot of things but it's not a mess and it's definitely not ugly. And I would take one after a vacuum cleaner sounding M4 that everybody has any day of the week. I think I also like how hated and thus exclusive this car is too... :D

      @Ezero8 7 лет назад +11

      Nope, you're not the only one! I thought it looked pretty bad when I first saw reviews of it and I bought in to all the criticism. Then I saw one in person on the road and it looked amazing! It was the most aggressive looking Lexus I'd ever seen yet it was still beautiful in a strange way. I have a liking for GT cars and the RC fits my taste perfectly.

      Always makes me laugh when people say dumb shit like "but it can't turn" lol. The M4 is a disappointment, I mean basically every review says the new Camaro SS is better than it. How embarrassing is that?

      LOL, in this class of vehicles, the C63 is a GT car, the RS5 is a GT car. The RC F is a whale.

      Gorilla Jones Regardless, an S5 or something would be better suited for those idiots then. For those who know a little about cars, a C63 or RS5 would be the GTs to go for in this segment in my opinion.

    • @Gorilla_Jones
      @Gorilla_Jones 7 лет назад +3

      ewt415 I know about cars, I own several. A Porsche, a Beemer and a Lexus. The Lexus is the daily driver, but that being said it is the most comfortable for my commutes into NYC. It's not always about lap times. Sometimes it's just comfort. And the Lexus is usually the quietest and most comfortable. Even in a GT this is a good characteristic. My old CLK55 made great noises and wasn't the fastest. It reminds me of this Lexus.
      Resale value, it's a toss up right now.

    U know what I enjoy the look of this car. All these cars these days are just continuous rehashes of there former selves Lexus has the balls to try something new and I really enjoy how aggressive this looks. The weight however does kill the sportiness but you'll turn heads for sure.

  • @DrSpideybug

    Excellent review! I've had the car for about 17 months now, I must say that you nailed the PROs and CONs head on! If one has the money and doesn't require four doors, the RC F is one of the best daily drivers money can buy, in my opinion. It is docile for daily driving, and can get very good gas mileage on the highway for a V8. It is also very practical with a large amount of space for cargo compared to most 2-door coupes, and the two additional seats, while not very practical for transporting adults, come in handy for storing a backpack or a small amount of groceries. Three adults can fit comfortably, but I wouldn't recommend anyone sitting behind the driver's seat unless perhaps they are a small child and can fit easily. However, when the road opens up a bit, the glorious V8 is right there for some fun!
    I personally would have liked the dashboard to be different considering the price tag, and the fact that it is supposed to be a special "F" spec. While it is nice, it is pretty much just lifted from the IS line but with a different gauge cluster, which is disappointing. Like you mentioned, the transmission could also be a bit more engaging in Normal mode. Sometimes I will be overtaking cars on the freeway and unless I really push the pedal to the metal, I will be going fast--but without making much sound. That's good for reducing noise pollution, but not good for enjoying a nice V8 engine! While one can always keep it in Sport S/S+ mode, it is not very practical for comfortable daily driving. The ride becomes too harsh, shifts a bit too jarring, and gas mileage goes down too much.
    Overall the car is still great and I'm glad I own one! It's a real head-turner with its looks, and since there aren't many out there, it really does feel a bit more special on the road than its competitors (even if they are slightly better in performance on the track). And don't forget that it has the luxury and reliability that Lexus is known for!

    This cars interior is significantly more intricate and better put together than anything BMW and or Audi offer. But thank you for correctly pegging this car in between a track and a GT car. It's not meant to compete with an M4 (and I'm sick of people comparing the two). This car would go well in a head to head with an RS5 or base C63 amg coupe. None of those cars will ever see the track but they are damn good fun on good stretches of freeway!

    one of the most unique and sexy entries in this segment, you cannot match the sound of that N/A V8 and Lexus's amazing reliability.

      @Paul_Zernick 7 лет назад

      justin bouche match? Jesus, really, N/A, jag xk's, Aston vantages, maserati gran tourismo just to name a few.
      Heard a rs5 or m4 lately? Angry as fuck. And they're turboed. No, lexus have fallen well short. Pity, Lfa failed to stimulate the opportunities for the f badges potential.

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 7 лет назад

      Aston vantages since when are they in the small sized luxury sedan / coupe market, look at the price difference.

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 7 лет назад

      Just cause it's N/A doesn't make it good. I'd take a turbocharged C63 AMG over this N/A engine any day. Can't argue Lexus's reliability though.

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 7 лет назад

      N/A V8's are increasingly rare these days, unless you have driven one you will not understand how much better the throttle response is and how much easier it is to control revs. turbo's used to be cool, because they were rare... now they are on ever car.

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 7 лет назад

      justin bouche I have driven one, and I still stand by what I said. I'd prefer a N/A over a turbocharged engine any day, however, when you have an average N/A V8 vs. a sublime turbocharged V8, I'd take the turbo V8.

    The 18 models onwards are the ones to get. You can dial in a Custom drive mode (overcoming the issues in this review), the infotainment screen is a lot larger, suspension stiffens/softens depending on drive mode.

    One of the things that Carfection reviews seem to fall short on are the parting summations - Too wishy washy. What are the better cars you would consider over this for the price and why?
    Similar performance in the previous gen amg c63? If i was after a modern old school luxo v8 that's what I'd be wanting to know.

    I love the way it looks, I love the way it sounds, I love the reliability and residual values it holds. if there is one thing I would change, is the focus of this car. either be a gt or a sports car. it's hard to be both. nevertheless, I'd buy it over the m4, rs5. c63 amg would be a much harder choice tho.

    I love my 2017 RC-F. I know she’s not the quickest V8 out there, but coming from and still owning a 2014 IS250. It was an upgrade for me. I skipped all the 350 models, did not even bother. Life is short. V8 all the way. The GSF was just too much of a boat when I test drove it. That and the price difference pre owned is quite the difference. I don’t need a 4 door when I barely had any passengers even with the IS250. RC-F was a better fit for me. Now the 2019 RCF 10th anniversary would of be nice. The blue interior, man is that sweet.

    Great thing about the world is everyone has personal choice and different tastes.
    Styling of the RCF is subjective and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love the different look of this car where others hate it. (The haters might think their wife or girlfriend is beautiful where others may think she is a pig lol!)
    I loved the RCF when I recently test drove one back to back with a BMW M4 where as I hated the M4 (and that's coming from a BMW guy).
    Also recently test drove the M2 and M6 as I'm looking for something to replace my Z4 35is DCT.
    I suggest before anyone dismisses the RCF based on all the media reviews they actually go and drive one.
    It's an awesome car.
    I had formulated an opinion based on the many so called professional reviews and was set to buy a M4 until I actually drove one. Instead after test driving various car I am now either planning to purchase a 2015 RCF or 2012 M6.

To me, 6 cylinder turbo isn't new and I'm fully ok with them. We weren't a V8 family. I bought that Grand National and love the sleeper quality it possesses. A V8 isn't everyones ideal layout.

      As a current owner of the previous gen C63, I've been contiplating selling it as it's starting to get old & being out of warranty, it is starting to become a money pit. My car is also in the affected range for defective headbolts, meaning when they decide to fail & they will fail without any warning, I'll be looking at around $10k replacement for a used 6.2L. I've really been considering a used RCF to replace it

    • @SamAbraham
      @SamAbraham 7 лет назад

      Henry M. What we do, is we buy cars that still have a little warranty left, and then get the car certified and get an extended 5 year warranty. Weissach has an upgrade kit which would resolve the head bolt issue, and if I were to buy a car like yours, I'd probably upgrade it. Your situation is unfortunate, but pretty much anywhere else you look, the RC F has a bad review. If you're looking for a change, I'd look at the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

    • @TheHellfireQueen

    Watching this in 2024 as considering buying one now that used prices are very tempting indeed (circa £30-40k). I feel that a lot of the criticisms can be addressed by a sportier exhaust and intake, bigger brakes with more aggressive pads, and some sports suspension.

    Isn't the real reason that the M4 is faster to 60 is because it has way more torque? This car revs high and sounds good, but similar to the old Audi 4.2 it isn't very torquey. You gotta be high in the revs like a Honda.

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 7 лет назад

      Torque, shift speeds, weight, yeah

  • @denisleblanc4506
    @denisleblanc4506 7 лет назад

    I'm wondering if your impression of the V8 lacking in the lower revs doesn't have something to do with the modified Atkinson cycle it can run. There may be something in the tuning that keeps it in that cycle as long as it can and only unleashes it's full potential when you have it pegged at higher revs. It would have been nice if you'd mentioned this. The modified Atkinson cycle probably kills it's sound too at lower revs. So I would be so bold as to say it's an untouched naturally aspirated V8. It doesn't have turbo's or a flat plane crank or a supercharger, but it's not exactly a T-rex either.

Every always talking about Mercedes' "hot V bla bla" but if you just have a the 2UR's valve operation system, for example, you'll see that it's way more complicated and sophisticated than both the systems from Mercedes and BMW.

    What is naturally aspirated? What are the German cars using now?

    • @robiulahmed
      @robiulahmed 7 лет назад +4

      No turbos or superchargers. The german cars have smaller engines with turbos. Naturally aspirated engines have better throttle response and better reliability, turbos have more power and more torque, depending on how they're tuned, as well as having more potential for mods.

    • @Ohhdeeds
      @Ohhdeeds 7 лет назад

      AdvancedEliteGaming Naturally Aspirated means that the engine doesn't have any mechanics to allow forced air into the engine - an example being that the Ferrari F12 has a naturally aspirated V12 engine because it doesn't have a Turbocharger nor Supercharger. Very basic way of differentiating. I hope this helped! Majority of cars German manufactures use are Turbochargers - easy to make power.

    Easily the slowest most underwhelming car in terms of performance in anything in its price range. It's damn near a fucking rip off. If you bought this car you got robbed. That v8 is nothing to brag about in a car so slow with a terribad transmission and no manual option & boat-like handling.

    • @hmackprotection1
      @hmackprotection1 7 лет назад

      LegendInThaMakin, it really is a shame there's not a manual option. I'd like to see one that is tuned, ECM remapped, & throttle response much more sensitive. The problem with it isn't lack of power, it's the way the factory ECM tune holds the power delivery back with electronic throttle lag. There's no reason that a 3850lb Coupe with the over 460HP 5Liter V8 if engine tuned, custom exhaust, & a transmission tune shouldn't be a legit 500Crank Hp 400crank TQ free revving fast car that would shave .5 seconds off of its stock acceleration test times

      if you have to rev it, and it's fast if you do, then sure, fantastic car! it's slow, EVEN IF you rev it. Plus you need a fucking aftermarket exhaust to get over 500hp, and it's probably still not as quick around a corner.

      Agreed, I imported one of those old weird V8 Soarer YEARS AGO that I found at a Jap auction for $700 bucks & apart from capacitors fucking up in the digital dash ($2 fix with a soldering iron), it actually had no problems for such an old thing with so much tech for a '92 car - factory height adjust airbag suspension with adjust damping, factory touch screen car with analog phone built in, factory reverse camera, trac control. Air springs prematurely died after 16 years due to my own stupidity of installing a 'height controller' & riding too low, yet a mate who had an S-Class had to replace his after 5 years.

      @TheMuzikall 7 лет назад +1

      ewt415 ..he should have named a couple..one or two might be better..but to say there are a lot better is false..after all. .Toyota made the legendary Supra and LFA. .they know a thing or two about making sports cars..Lexus suffers from Euro-bias journalism

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 7 лет назад

      TheMuzikall Nothing biased here. I haven't heard so many good things about the RC-F as I've heard from Carfection; they actually LIKE the RC-F, in case you didn't watch the video.
      For around $60,000-$70,000? You can get a M4, RS5, C63, ATS-V in the same class of vehicles that are all either better driver's cars, or GT cars - or both - than the RC-F. I won't even bother to mention the other more driver focused cars out there, brand new, for that price!
      Lexus should have named this car the RC500 F Sport, then made an actual, lightweight, serious RC-F. If you showed me the RC-F without the Lexus badge, I would have no idea it was from a company who made great cars like the Supra and LFA.

    • @usernamealreadytaken770
      @usernamealreadytaken770 7 лет назад

      Agreed. I was a huge fan of the RC-F at first but after test driving both the BMW M2 and the RC-F, I felt the RC-F was a huge letdown and I got the M2. Aside from the M2, which is why I got one, I don't really like BMW, so I'd still rather have the RC-F over the M4 though.

  • @Kev50027

    • @rousseauz119
      @rousseauz119 7 лет назад +1

      Yeah, if you have a heavy car, you NEED torque. Bigger displacement or forced induction. If you want a screamer/revver like the RC F to go fast, it NEEDS to be light. Lexus fucked up.

    • @viralengine908
      @viralengine908 7 лет назад

      Except the overpriced part, some would accuse a mustang of being all those things.

    • @user-lb7pt6jb3o
      @user-lb7pt6jb3o 7 лет назад

      viralengine908 mustangs like the $65k Shelby GT350R are faster than an $150k M4 GTS, looks amazing, sounds FANTASTIC, and with the carbon fiber wheels handles and steers better than any car in its weight range, so despite the nice interior, the car still feels super light
      so the mustang is none of those things. in fact, the mustang's most common insult is ironically that its so rare that dealers sell them with $20k markups right now

  • @d0718
    @d0718 7 лет назад +1

    Three benefits of this car: 1. Naturally-aspirated V8 2. It's quite rare 3. Reliability
    Everything else is a downside. Looks are subjective, let's leave that aside. But. It's slower than any rival. It doesn't sound much better than the new C63 Coupe. It doesn't handle near as well as the M4 does. The infotainment system and that array of buttons look and feel cheap and also are a pain to use. It's less luxurious inside than a C63. It's heavy af. It has no manual option like the m4 and the auto is sh!t. It's not much cheaper than competitors either. And so on and on and on...
    Too many downsides to justify a purchase. If you want a naturally aspirated V8 get a used RS5 for half the price or previous gen 6.2L C63 or E92 M3. Or a new 5.0 Ford Mustang.

    • @d0718
      @d0718 7 лет назад

      Jay h there is too much risk involved developing niche cars like the RC F. It's much easier to build another SUV (like the relatively recent NX) which will be profitable for sure.
      Japanese manufacturers are not what they used to be 10 or 15 years ago. They make reliable and affordable saloon cars and SUVs but that about it. If you want premium or sportscar unfortunately there is nothing Japanese manufacturers can offer anymore

    • @thealeksanderh
      @thealeksanderh 7 лет назад +1

      Its the M4's closest rival though, and faster than Both the C63(previous gen) and RS5 around a track.
      Also more comfortable than the M4 if you trust any reviews.
      The new C63 is 2 years newer and not its aiming competitor.
      The car does have downsides, and is not as good as it COULD have been, but its not shit. not nearly.
