    Great, detailed review. Thank you Wes. I can't believe how high it placed on your chart. Very impressive.
    I am a Sony shooter with all Tamron lenses. I own the 70-180 version 1. Any chance you might review version 2 of the lens that came out recently? Same goes with 28-75 G2. I think your chart is very accurate as I have shot both number one and two on your chart. I am surprised that version one of my Tamron 70-180 placed so low on the chart.

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Год назад

      The version 1 of the Tamron placed higher initially, but I used it a lot over the period of a couple years since then, and became increasingly disappointed with it. (all ratings are subject to change over time, both through my longer term impressions and changes to market competition).
      I became increasingly annoyed with it's somewhat quirky autofocus, and the total dealbreaker for me in the end was the often incredibly nervous and messy bokeh. I somehow really missed that one in my review, but now almost any picture I take with it I just can't unsee how bad I find the out of focus areas generally look.
      Not sure if I'll be able to get my hands on the new ones. Tamron didn't much care for my previous reviews haha.

      @@WesPerry Thank you Wes for your reply. Now you are making me go back and look at my 70-180 shots more closely. I completed a project that took me almost a year to shoot. I used f2.8 and f4 a lot in my images in an effort to separate my subject from the background. These were nature shots and the mountains and the tress are already busy to begin with. I am wondering how much better my images may have looked with a smoother bokeh. I primarily shoot landscapes and use manual focus 99% of the time so I missed the focusing issues. Optically I am happy with version 1.
      I had a chance to try vision 2 at the Tamron VIP summit last week and like the corner sharpness better and the VC, the USB port and the 1:2 macro at 70mm are very attractive new features. I specifically tested the corner sharpness wide open and its is improved. I borrowed and shot the new 17-50 for the tow days we were there and did not use any of my three lenses I had brought along!!!

      Compared to the original Sony f/4 the Tamron is Much sharper if you’re using a body with more than 24mp. For video the difference isn’t so stark though. Would love to see what the difference in character between the the old and new Tamrons is though.

      @@WesPerry Although, I shot the new 70-180. I really did not take more than a few minutes as I wanted to know about corner sharpness. I am looking forward to your much more detailed review and comparison of the new and the old. Thanks

    Viltrox has a much, much better bokeh, even better than Sony 85 f1.8 and it has proper corrections in Lightroom

    • @WesPerry
      @WesPerry  Год назад +2

      Yes it’s still a Bit smoother than the Yongnuo. And of course Vastly smoother than the Sony 1.8

      Although you’re right, it’s Very much a matter of opinion. I like a little bit of soap bubble, a Little bit of swirl. I find that makes for better 3D pop. But I find the Sony 85 1.8 almost always comes off as too harsh and busy and distracting.

      I like the overall Look of the viltrox more, but the Yongnuo is sharper and has slightly better AF, so that’s a tough one!

    • @WesPerry

      I don’t think it comes in RF mount. Canon decided to disallow 3rd party lenses. The first version of this lens came out for RF before canon started suing everyone.

      From what I can tell, the older version has the old "Yn lens" logo, while the new version has the "Yongnuo" logo. The old version also has a colour accent above the focus ring.

    Yongnuo 85mm f.8 is far sharper than sony 85mm f1.8 if you are being honest 😅. Even DXOmark rated yongnuo 85mm lens as the sharpest 85mm lens .

      @WesPerry Maybe the copy you got is not that good . The camera crisis compared the same lens with Sony 85mm F1.8 FE . The yongnuo was sharper than the sony in his comparison . I guess it depends on the copy. Nice video, though 💯
