I have this watch & it’s among my favorites within my modest collection. The biggest improvement was to swap the factory strap for yellow suede. It pops once you go to either a distressed gray leather, yellow suede, or even beige … instead of the rather dull brown leather that it comes with. 👍🏻

Great piece. I have one and love it. This colour way is a real treat - a nostalgic look. It's a keeper. Looks good on the bracelet as well as the leather strap too
Great review. I know there are different dial colors, but this flat blue/gray, or almost like a blue pewter seems timeless. I really think anything on a leather strap brings another style which can include dress, sport, and casual. The date hand is awesome. So much butter seeing a full dial without that 3pm date window.
I have this watch. Bought it in Boxing Day sales last year. Still absolutely love it. I wanted the black dial and wasnt sold on this dial colour. But the more i looked at it the more I loved it. There is also a slight metallic fleck to the dial under the right light. My wife has the 36mm bronze with green dial.
Not entirely my favorite dial designs of the watches I have, but one of my favorites to wear. Terrific case finish variations. That crown is sweet to operate. Video makes it look a tad bluer than it is, it’s a bit more gray. I think of it as slate blue. The Roberto Clemente looks great.
Not settling is great advice. I have a watch that I want badly but I missed it and there are other colorways out there but none are the "one" watch. I'm holding out, but it is tempting to get a different one. Good advice. Nice watch.
I went into the AD last week looking for the 80th anniversary bronze version. They did have that, along with 9 other variations. This blue one went home on my wrist. All of them looked good, but this was the one. The only one I've seen that I don't like is the special edition with rose gold markers on "oxblood" dial. I would find it hard to read the date on that with the colors too similar.
That symmetry argument is the main reason I chose the Khaki King as my daily. Spelled out day AND date complication at the 12 is too cool. My dream would be an Oris style pointer date with a weekday display over the 6 like those old Seikos.
Alex F I feel you man. I might sway towards the red. It’s just so appealing to me and I’ve been wanting a red dial for a while but there aren’t too many out there that look good.
The pictures and videos of the BCPD bracelet do not do it justice. Like you, I was not impressed with what I saw online, compared to the leather strap version. Then I went to an AD and handled one in person and my opinion flipped. The bracelet is outstanding. The quality is immediately apparent as you put it on. VERY comfortable and the way the light grey-blue dial and bracelet compliment each other is a little bit magical.
Following the same strategy, makes so much more sense in the long term. You can really zero down and actually get what you want to by saving and doing enough research.
I have been looking for a watch with a nice 60's or Vintage feel, that I can also use as a dress watch, and I am starting to think, that Oris might be the brand that can give me that.
It’s a beautiful watch the only thing that puts me off is the fact that it has “big crown” written on the dial. Ok it’s obvious why it’s called the big crown and yeah, I can see it has a big crown, why does it need to be written on the dial??
I have a 1940’s Swiss Bertmar Pointer date and it also has the day and month, full Calender. I think the pointer dates were a big thing in the 1940’s and partly into the ‘50’s. very classic at 33-34mm which was considered a big men’s watch. The 36mm would be more true to the classics.
Another great video Rob; I completely agree with your design review of this beauty. In fact, I bought this exact watch at Worn and Wound's Windup fair in NYC two years ago from London Jewelers. I've always been a fan of Oris's Big Crown collection and for the longest time was going to buy the black dial version... Until I saw this powder blue/gray looker. Keeps great time and wears like it's not on my wrist (it's so light and thin). My only complaint is the very thing that initially attracted me to it (besides the gorgeous dial and cathedral hands)... The date markers. Why? Quite simply, the printed numbers are way too small for me to read without my glasses! It's still one of my favorites in my collection. Highly recommended. And I almost forgot...for those that think this watch is too dressy looking, the gorgeous dial matches well with your favorite pair of BLUE jeans. It switches well between casual and dressy attire. Harder to do with the other color options IMHO. 😁
Agreed on the size of the numbers. But then again, I can barely read the largest of date wheels I. The best light thanks to my aging eyes so I forgive it as my fault. :)
If I were to tell my watches and own just one, this would be among my top five, preferably in green or bronze. I think you're right - this is better suited to a strap. The bracelet is too dressy for my tastes. A three-like style bracelet would look better.
i had one of these but an older model. it kept brilliant time you would not believe fantastic watch i destroyed it by accident on a walking holiday could have cried as it was new. should have worn the gshock!
This is an odd one for me. I loved the look on video and computer but when I tried it on at an AD I really didn’t like it. Not sure what it was...I really wanted to like it but just didn’t.
I still have my Oris big crown that I bought in 1997. Unfortunately, I no longer can wear it as it looks lost on my 8.5 inch wrist, plus the fact the rice bead strap is too small. Shame, as it is in 96% perfect condition!
Sorry Rob. Could only make it partway through the video. No need to tempt fate ... The Big Crown is just one of the very few watches I like in any colorway, every time I see it I want to sell a car. This slate blue, the Roberto Clemente, the greens etc. Ugh. If there's one watch to just STOP and jump off this hobby in order to move on to other things ... these make a very strong argument for, higher-line Swiss be damned.

Saved up for this one. Even sold a few watches. It arrives today. Been drooling over this one for over a year. That blue/gray is stunning.
How do you like it after a few months?
How do you like it after a few years?
Never been a fan of ORIS....until now. Love this watch.
My grail watch. Realistically, a real luxury watch won't be within my means in the foreseeable future, but one day I'll own one of these.

Luxury is what you perceive it to be. This is a luxury watch imo bro. Love it!!
Great piece. I have one and love it. This colour way is a real treat - a nostalgic look. It's a keeper. Looks good on the bracelet as well as the leather strap too
It's really a lovely watch. My first 'luxury' timepiece. Certainly my favorite in Oris's lineup.
I lusted after this exact watch for so long and still. I know I need to buy one
Its a stunning watch. Timeless beauty! Nice review, greatly spoken.

I've owned the Big Crown Small Second Pointer Day 44mm for 2 years. It's still one of my favorites in my collection.
Totally agree with you about the bracelet. Somehow it just doesn’t look right on this particular watch. But it looks sensational on the leather strap
Love these watches, so elegant! the bezel and huge crown really make the watch, just incredible.
One of my favorite watches in my collection. Love the blue

Love mine. I’m wearing it on one of the Strap Bandits tweed straps. Looks fantastic.
Absolutely stunning!
The new Oris Roberto Clemente LE Edition. Great looking!
I love the video Rob!👌
I always thought this was a gmt watch. I actually learned something today.
Wonder why more watches use the pointer date. It is such an elegant solution.
Love Oris and I love this model, pointer date is new to me and I have to say I love it..... This could be my next watch🤔
The burgundy version of this watch is a beautiful time piece!!!
Bought one yesterday and can't stop looking at it LOL
Not settling is great advice. I have a watch that I want badly but I missed it and there are other colorways out there but none are the "one" watch. I'm holding out, but it is tempting to get a different one. Good advice. Nice watch.
i picked up the 80th anniversity green dial and bronze frame one recent. So beautiful
Love the Big crown. I'm torn betwee this one and burgandy. Such an eye catching piece
Absolutely love this watch
This is my favorite model from Oris next to 1917 Big Crown. The Roberto Clemente model really speaks to me and may need to fork over the dough for one
I just got a Roberto Clemente limited edition, it's beautiful. I've always liked this model but couldn't resist when the Clemente came out.
Thanks, great review! Awesome watch

This watch in this exact color is my grail watch. It’s about the most I could ever spend on wrist candy and not have a heart attack.
I'm actually wearing the green dial one as we speak. One of my favs in my collection.
That's a really awesome watch and definitely the best color to have.
i love that green model, great watch
I’m considering the red dial. It looks so unique
@@mariog7213 honestly it was between the green and red dial one. The red is reeeally nice too but ultimately I chose the limited edition green one.
Alex F I feel you man. I might sway towards the red. It’s just so appealing to me and I’ve been wanting a red dial for a while but there aren’t too many out there that look good.
Talking about limited editions of this watch, did you see the Roberto Clemente Edition. Looks sweeet
I love my Oris Big Crown Pointer Date. It's the perfect watch.
always asked to see one of them when saltzams has one in stock. always likes the red dial version.
The pictures and videos of the BCPD bracelet do not do it justice. Like you, I was not impressed with what I saw online, compared to the leather strap version. This is one of those watches that look so much better in pictures. Usually, it’s the reverse.
Man love it!!
This will probably be the the office watch I will get for myself once I get a career going in 1-2 year.
Does "flipper for life" sometimes lead to regret?
I would like the date digits a bit larger and date hand with red circle around the date.
I limit myself to one watch a year, so I’ll be picking up the burgundy one next year!
I bought it after reaching a personal milestone earlier this year on the steel bracelet and I am in love.
Following the same strategy, makes so much more sense in the long term. You can really zero down and actually get what you want to by saving and doing enough research.
These look a really nice watch & a good alternative to a Alpinist!
I have been looking for a watch with a nice 60's or Vintage feel, that I can also use as a dress watch, and I am starting to think, that Oris might be the brand that can give me that.
Love the watch
Does the leather strap require some time to break in? Some leather straps are very stiff when they're new.
Comparing with the Oris site and still not sure if it’s the blue or black one. Does somebody know?
what do you think about the bronze one?
I have the red dial...it's a beauty
It’s a beautiful watch the only thing that puts me off is the fact that it has “big crown” written on the dial. Ok it’s obvious why it’s called the big crown and yeah, I can see it has a big crown, why does it need to be written on the dial??
Love mine, actually prefer it to my IWC Spitfire. Great accuracy too, just +3/4 secs per day (measured over 7 days).
Love the "4"
Looking for a similar watch what's a fair asking price ? Thanks for any help

Which size Tudor was that...?
I like oris, I know they are quite expensive but not compared to other Swiss manufacturers.
And limited editions gives a sense that no one else has one especially my clean ocean 39mm Aquis with its unique back medal.
Is Oris better brand then longines?
Go Tigers!
I love this but I found it to be too dressy for everyday wear... I went with the 65 instead
I want one
Torn between this Oris and the Alpinist from the other day?
I would go for the Oris if price isn't an issue
If I were to tell my watches and own just one, this would be among my top five, preferably in green or bronze. I think you're right - this is better suited to a strap. The bracelet is too dressy for my tastes. A three-like style bracelet would look better.
I prefer no date watch because it’s extra work to set it
Would be nice if it was 100m water resistant. I think it would make it a bit more versatile 🤷🏻♂️
i had one of these but an older model. it kept brilliant time you would not believe fantastic watch i destroyed it by accident on a walking holiday could have cried as it was new. should have worn the gshock!

Oh god I hate that I've found out this watch exists. I'm gonna bankrupt myself now :/
Dam...Oris Taste...Seiko Alpinist budget..
I still have my Oris big crown that I bought in 1997. Unfortunately, I no longer can wear it as it looks lost on my 8.5 inch wrist, plus the fact the rice bead strap is too small. Shame, as it is in 96% perfect condition!
Sell it
