I had the pleasure of seeing this piece at the AD last week. In the flesh it looks stunning, the small seconds really works well and it is so readable. You perfectly described the dial as inky blue as well. I find it interesting that they have foregone the cathedral hands and fluted bezel but it still looks great with the pencil hands. Also worth a note is that that arabic numerals are a more modern font. I am very tempted to add this to my list in the future. For now I'll stick with my oxblood dial pointer date.
Yes I didn't mention the thicker modern Arabic's. And you are right it looks better in person. It was very hard to film this watch, with all its reflections and the crystal would often make the camera lose focus. The watch in this video has just sold! But I might pick one up in the future, maybe in a different color way.
This watch is no longer on my list.... Its is however on my wrist and without going off on a detailed review (you already did that) is fantastic. I'll be keeping my old pointer date though as they have a lot of differences.
Don't get me wrong, I really like how this watch looks, but I absolutely love the look of the previous model! I think I would save the extra money, and go for that one. I think they should have kept the fluted bezel.
I prefer also the older design and size. Even if I don't have a big wrist (17,3cm/6,75 inch), 38mm feels to small for me. The design had some personality with the numerals and the hands. I can understand if somebody likes the new one, but for me it's too sterile.
That's what I did: went to the AD a week or two after the announcement of the new reference, because I thought they might discontinue the old design altogether. Very happy with my black Big Crown Pointer Date in 36mm. :)
Great to see this up close and personal. What a dial color. Obviously the perfect size and I really love that case shape. You really showed off that beautiful crystal distortion 👌🏻👌🏻
Oh yeah that was the prize shot of the review! Tough to get! This was hard to film the camera kept losing focus. No watch has ever given me such a hard time. The black hole of a dial + the crystal + high polish.
I think Oris really did a hatchet job on this watch. The coined bezel was more distinctive and affordable. I have the Big Crown Pointer DAY with the coined bezel which I think looks much better at half the price.
I like the fluted bezel on my big crown pro pilot bronze.. but this one... it is so awesome with the smooth bezel. There is one available at my local dealer... and I keep coming back to stare at it in the window. So shiny, gorgeous dial.. really really nice.
It seems to be missing the coined bezel, the strange "4", and the red rotor. I still loved the red crescent from the previous model. Previous model also had 2 loom dots at 12 position. This is more a generic watch. Maybe they correct it for the 40mm?
Lovely watch. Insta love since I saw it first. It's movement and undenial beauty are the strongest points here. I may pick it up in the future, but first - Longines Spirit in titanium.
I really like this one. My favorite big crown pointer date to, well uh.. to date. I have a specific place for some odd reason for small seconds. Can you get this on bracelet or have to buy it as an extra strap accessory? Although I do not like a pointer date in a small date ring at the 6.. say like what you may find on some Seiko Presage models.. I think it's a bit too small for a date indicator. I like the pointer date on this one (and previous pointer date models) as the date ring is much larger and fills out the outer circumference nicely. I like this dark blue. I'd love to see more color variations.. maybe something lighter in like a white or ivory dial. No doubt I can see bronze variations happening in relatively no time.. and it would look nice, also, for sure. As with Oris pricing... I know some may disagree.. but, I personally always found them just a tad more expensive than I would expect or prefer... Say from $600-$1000, depending on the model, more than I personally feel comforable paying for. Luckily, I think Oris prices on used market tend to bring the prices down to where I think they'd be more worth spending on, for myself. Regarding lume on some big name Swiss brands.. yeah, I don't get it? Why can't they use more effective lume? Oris, Hamilton, Squale, Mido, Glycine... Just some off the top of my head. They've been in the watch game for quite some time and even in their divers (which many of the mentioned have a good reputation for), which many say need the lume the most, they still fail to put out anything that remotely comes close to what say Seiko (and tons of microbrands) have been doing for years. And, say what you will, but even pilot watches and motorsports watches should have excellent lume as well.. and they don't necessarily all do that good neither. Flying and driving high speed vehicles in the dark... Why, wouldn't you need to more clearly and quickly check the time with the help of good lume?! Sure, some may counter that say this pointer date and the like aren't sport watches or are dressier timepieces, etc.. Idk, for me, no excuse not to be up to date on best in 2021 (even from several years earlier), if not significantly better, lume formula and application. Either do the lume well, or don't even try. Sorry for this rant at the end. But, I think there's some truth here. That all being said, if price was "right" (for me) and despite the sub-par lume, I'd still be very tempted to pick this one up to enjoy on wrist.
There is currently no bracelet yet that I could find. Only 1 configuration on this and the Limited edition Holestein edition with the grey dial. I enjoy that one more, but it is $500 more then this blue dial version. Oris does take a big hit on the used market which is a great way to purchase one.
Saw and tried it a couple of days ago: nothing to say about the watch, which is very well made. But that strap...ohhhh...very very cheap for a 3k € watch! Whished they made a steel bracelet for this model too or at least a better quality leather strap!
Check out the Cervo Volante deer skin big crown recent review those straps are excellent and in that review I mentioned its much higher then this models strap!
@@EscapementWatch Yes, but I am still interested in the BG cal. 403 not in the normal Big Crown of the Cervo volante reference. Are they selling just the Cervo Volante straps, so I can use those straps on the cal. 403 watch? On the site doesn't look like so...
Any chance you’ll be getting the Aquis Wu Kong edition? I grew up watching Sun Wu Kong cartoons & live action and would lovee to see a review before making a decision! Edit: Oops I made this comment literally 5 seconds before you showed off the monkey king in the vid!
Very beautiful watch, tried it on at my AD. Looks stunning. In the video you mention that it is 50m water resistant and the you can go 50m deep with this watch. That is absolutely not true. 50m means 5 ATM of 5 BAR and that means the watch is splash resistant. You can shower with is, do so swimming but absolutely nog poolside diving or sea diving…
The Oris representative I spoke with said because of its screw down crown swimming is absolutely fine. I did exaggerate the 50m deep, yes do not dive. But swim with confidence.
Sorry but the numerals make it like another generic pilot watches and lose all the flavor of original Big Crown Pointer Date. I consider this a design failure of Oris (which is rare in recent years though). Please work harder Oris. I’m really tempted to handle a 38mm BCPD or 65.

excellent review. very thorough. nice to see the beat rate and that you added the comment about the feel of the winding, etc...subscribed
The 5 day power reserve is a huge plus for me. I also like the date pointer.

I've got a black one I'm looking to sell if you're interested lol, I love the new one and plan on upgrading :)
But the clear bezel works well. This model is great, it’s just a little pricey thats all.

Magnifique montre ,qui serait parfaite avec une étanchéité à 100 m et une couronne vissée.Merci pour la qualité de cette revue
What a beautiful watch and that blue dial is spectacular.

Spirit is a wise choice!
I was looking the the Longines Spirit in titanium too. Longines has a 72 hour power reserve but this is 5 days! I think this oris is my perfect watch.
@@soulg1969 it is nice, bu Spirit has more character, more detail. 10BAR WR. yeah, tough call brother.
@@johnepic2422 Yes tough, the dial on the Spirit is nice but no display caseback.
I don't care about display case back. The lume in this watch is really bad.
Love this piece. Being super picky I’d like the “5 Days” removed and the “Swiss Made” shrunk a little but I can live with both.
Great suggestion!
Yes, Oris only on the Dial, without "Big Crown and 5 Days"
Freaking beautiful timepiece
I like how Oris straps and bracelets dramatically taper.
Hard to decide between 403 and manual 473
One of the most beautiful watches I have ever seen. I am from Zagreb, Croatia and I will buy one such watch
Thank you for watching!!!
Really liking this one. Just wish there were a bracelet option. Think that will come along soon?
I'm sure they will do a bracelet in the future with more dial colors.
