- This is one of the best and easiest homemade capture and release humane rat/mouse traps! Easy to build, easy to bait, easy to release and best of all, it's humane and there's no springs or levers to wind up or load! The mouse, rat or vole cannot escape or chew his way out of this mouse trap. Mice and rats are not harmed in any way during capture. As a matter of fact, the mouse, rat or vole remains very calm since there is no slamming doors or snapping latches to scare them! Mice can be released calmly and easily without fear of getting bitten even by the most "fearful of mice" person!! Simple operation makes this diy homemade rat mouse trap fun and easy to build (great parent and kid project to learn about balance) and adjust for easy trapping and best of all easy release. Just use a dab of peanut butter to bait the trap. It's the best do it yourself homemade humane live release rat mouse trap you'll find! A 3" PVC pipe and a few other common items is all you'll need. I'll be building a humane squirrel trap next so you can capture and release squirrels easily too so subscribe and don't miss my upcoming "diy humane squirrel trap". Thanks for watching. FYI: A mouse weighs 5 Canadian Nickels = .02 KG or .7 OZ

Just made a slightly modified version of this trap 3 days ago, got my first rat this morning. Thanks for the great idea and instructions!
Sencillo,simple, eficaz,100/100. Muchas gracias
Thank you for the video. I just made one and hope to catch it tonight!
By far and away the best instructions of any of these trap videos thanks!
Thanks for that!!
Hi Chris, I made a similar trap out of 3" sch 40 pipe with a wooden lid and heavy iron wire hinge that I made with scrap from around house and caught first rat during first night with Parmesan cheese bait. The rats do trip the door occasionally so I built a wooden box around the tube and had to angle the front of box to get it to work right due to the teeter totter tube. Works great, and most humane way to catch rodents. Caught 5 so far and I think I do not have any more under the trailer, no more noises in our walls at night! I usually drop them off 5 miles from home in wooded areas, hopefully they won't make it back soon, lol. I thought the last thing I caught was a rattle snake, it was just mama rat, she was heavy. Please be safe people, as snakes and other animals can enter these traps as well. Thank you for your idea Chris!
That's great!! Please take a snap! I'd love to see a picture of your trap!! Send it to me at chrisnotap@gmail.com
I didn't know they can find their way back.
Love, love, love all these humane traps you built Chris. Thanks for sharing. Glad you put some air holes in the squirrel trap.
best trap and cheap I have seen
I have only one thing to say about your design and this video! Awesome!
'Simply' brilliant Chris. I made the squirrel proof bird table a couple of years ago btw. Works a treat!!
Thx so much 4 letting the mouse go!!
Genious!!Genius!!! Thank you!
Thank you for not killing it
I have many traps on my channel for squirrels and mice. They are all capture and release traps. Thanks.
love your videos. You are brilliant.

"and how do I know a mouse weighs five nickels?" Man I'm still laughing. Well I guess you weren't going to put him on your kitchen scale
Haha! A bit of comic relief. Thanks.
That got me good
This is the best of the best...
I do not think so ! rats/mices are smart creature !
Good trap !
COOoooOoOoL
Awesome idea : )) and the mouse is released alive !! thank you for this video !
We always enjoy your videos! Educational and entertaining
Thankyou vm. You are a good genious who love the nature ! Health for you and your
You should sell these on Amazon! I've spotted 5 different rats living behind our stove. They're almost too fat to run from me LOL That trap is perfect. Just don't know if I can keep the rats as pets afterwards. Trying to catch them before my roommate chooses the nuclear option.
Love the traps! Perhaps the next generation of traps could integrate an Arduino to send a text or activate an alarm if the trap is located in the attic...hmmmm...
Cool video! I've just built a quick mouse trap that is similar to this one. Although the concept in this video is smart and simple, I think the build could still be simplified, reducing the number of parts and tools used. The version I've made doesn't use a "hinge", nor screws, nor different stoppers even if the principle is the same. Instead of a hinge you can quickly build one using two flaps of plastic joined along an edge with tape. The tape acts as the hinge as it allows movement. I've used a yogourt plastic lid for the flaps. This "flap" is used instead of the orange cap and instead of building the lock that keeps it closed, I've simply glued a magnet that keeps the flap closed once the tube tips over. Here are the parts I've used: A plastic bottle (the tube), a yogourt plastic lid (the flaps), tape (the hinge), bamboo skewer (the pivot and the pikes that hold the flap open), 2 magnets (the lock), cardboard (the base and the pivot brackets). Here are the tools I've used: Hot glue and scissors.
Cheers!
great Job
Cool !!
This is great! Thank you!
You are so welcome!

Need to save this video and make one of these... Been getting a few visitors from the field not too far away...
This trap works elegantly.
Thank you very much. I will definitely make this as soon as I gather all that's required. Will let you know the out come. Cheers
I love how you showed how to humanely release the mouse. I have had many pet rats and mice and they are not vermin to me but they don't belong in my walls so I want them out of my house but not too kill them and I hate the thought of others killing t hem with sticky paper or clamping traps....Love to all...kim
i liked your explanation ..... excellent - good work
Thanks for that!
Cool invention Chris!👍🏼☮️
Glad you liked it!
These no kill types of traps are best for reuse. Rats especially can smell the death from another rat, and won't usually go to that area. Having a removable lid on the far end where you can place a dab of peanut butter would probably work well.
Hi Chris. I like your traps. You need to cover or somehow protect the far end of the trap. Both mice and especially rats will often climb all over these types of traps which will set them off.
Yes! Great tip! A small box or paper bag will do the trick.
those mice were adorable
lol the little critter scuttling away as the mouse gets trapped 4:16
our cats love it when we release mice.
Thanks for the video. This is the plan for me. Do you know how many coins a 5" (aprox) roof rat weighs?
Good 👍🏻🤩
love the step by step perfect way to find the exact parts ! now u need a bug trap lol 4:17 any new mice traps?
Very good mouse trap!! 👍 👍 I have made several mouse traps from youtube and this one is the best. It also catches very small mice and it is very easy to transport and release them.
Awesome, thank you!
Hey Chris did you say directions to build would be in the description??? I don’t see them. Help!!
Thanks for sharing your idea. I was able to make mine out of what I had laying around in my garage. The clear plastic lid to a 3m electrical tape box is a perfect fit for the sealed end and I had a cover for a lawn irrigation valve box for the other end. Hopefully the little varmints won't be able to chew through the sealed end.
It's all about experimenting to see what works!
Your videos are very relaxing.
Thanks for that. Which part relaxes you?
The music!
Hi Chris, i made the bottle version thinking i have a mouse in the garden that kept eating my pumpkins, well it turned out to be a rat. He triggered the auto sensor light last night, i looked out the window and there he was, a very well fed rat that ate half of every pumpkin. Do you know how heavy a rat is?
Rich
Just set it for the light weight of a mouse and it should catch anything that is heavier. Rats are very difficult to catch. They are very very cautious. Could take days for it to enter the the trap. They are much smarter than mice.
Agreed they are.
Update. Your correct rats are too smart.
My father in-law made one from wire mesh rectangle cheap shape with a spring loaded door with a drigger inside. I caught 4 rats.
It worked! Caught and released less than 12 hours later! 👍 Nice design Chris
That's great!! Was it a mouse or rat you caught?
It was a rat. I live in AZ and we get roof rats when it rains hard here. I also live close to a couple farms so they are pretty prevalent.
Cool! I only have mice here and was not able to get a rat but I concluded it had to work the same for rats. You proved my point. Thanks for that!
I made this with a 4" diameter pvc pipe, which I had and used a 5" galvanised steel round end cap with the crimped edges. I made it 16" long, but I forgot that perhaps I should have made it longer. I am finding it difficult to get the balance right. Should I be using a longer pipe? If so what length would you recommend? Is there a formula for this? Also, you mentioned making an update video for some sort of protective surrounding.
You could first try getting a plastic end cap since the 5" cap you're using is probably to heavy. If that doesn't work you need to lengthen the main pipe up to 24" to make it easier to balance. Here how I made one out of 4" PVC....ruclips.net/video/I7XZ8Yr6x8g/видео.html
thank you for the trap have a rat problem
Made my own and 3hrs later caught our basement intruder and released it outside. Great design and easy to make. Thanks!
That is awesome!
ide yg bagus
Cool man! I need to trap some rats without killing chipmunks and squirls. I'll give this a try!
you know you could put half the pipe in a cut box so that rodents dont accidently trigger the trap outside the tube
+Ryan Platon I will be adding that in an update video.
Wait a minute. Did you just release that mouse onto your neighbors backyard? :D
Ha!
for revenge, ha ha...(╯▽╰)
If you release mice, I think you need to take them at least 2 miles away or else they will return.
1.5 miles minimum or they will return so I lol at these kinds of videos.
Jajaja 😅😅😅👍
👍👍
La trampa está bien para cazar 1 solo rato (o rata o ratones, topos, topillos y musarañas, entre otros), de cada vez.
1 Rato de cada vez.
How about the ol' balancing Gatorade bottle trap, that's a good one.
The rat may feel enclosed with the cap on the end. My tube has a large grid screen on the end with the fruit and nuts bait. Viewable from both ends, so it doesn't look threatening. Also, instead of an orange cap that looms over the opening, used clear plastic that is closed with the aid of a small spring. You need lots of speed to lock 'em in.
Hi there, thanks for this. We lost our pet mice (4 mice) and tried everything. So I built yours using "crittertrail" tubes instead (hopeing these recognize the tube(s), and it worked over night! We actually got 2 for 1 on one catch, one was a small baby 2-3 weeks old and the other was one of the pet mice. Is this possible? My only explanation is that the baby was too light to trigger it and the larger one followed it in (mother?) and triggered it. I heard it and put them into a quarantine cage, reset it and within 1 hour caught a second pet mouse... 2 out of 4...not bad. Am waiting for more catches. But it seems to work awesome, thank you!!
Yayy thanks for letting the mouse go! My dad buys one that squeezes the mouse and it makes me so sad😭

Did you come up with the nickel weight of a roof or Norway rat?
How much does a chipmunk weigh? I have one in the basement ceiling. He escaped my java heart live trap twice now, prob through the 1” mesh? I might need to build me
One of these!!
Sir one simple mechanical project u prefer sir
What size Pipe would you use for a normal size pack-rat? Not a Norway Rat...just your typical rat? Do you think I would really need a 4" Pipe? Also, you should JUST LIKE a Maker RUclipsr that I follow...do you do things like jewelry oak display cabinets and marquees?
I followed on how to make this trap and it worked great I got me a pet now I named him little green :)
Great use for a Super 8 motel pen... You might of got the mice from staying there LOL
Please help! You are very inventive. Do you have an idea for a mole trap?
How does it breathe?
So what happened if the mouse goes on the other end when it is outside the tube when exploring ?
I'm having a problem with a weasel or a stout in my bathroom ceiling. It's difficult to get to but somehow this animal is getting in from the outside. Do you think this trap would work for that? Any advise would be appreciated.
Rats are cautious How do you get them comfortable with this trap? Thanks
GREAT MONEY SCALE
Next time i have an escaped hamster, now i know how to catch em XD
Hi
Does this work for weasels too??
How long of a pipe would I need?
Where do you get the pipe from
home Depot
Any point in using a clear end cap? Lets light in so squirrel can see bait?
Clear end caps are hard to find. But sure you could.
@@chrisnotap Thanks, I made one, not caught anything yet, squirrel persistently eating my house, not much left . . . .
Would it be bad or pointless to drill ventilation holes into the pipe?
You could along the top. Make sure they are small holes. You don't want to give them an opportunity to start chewing their way out
Any tips on where I can get the test cap?
+Dave Anderson Hardware store.
Thanks for the response. I've looked at in my local hardware store and even scoured the internet. I welcome more pointers.
When I made this, I thought everyone had these since I got it at home depot but thats not the case. I can barely find them anywhere!! My suggestion would be to go to the dollar store and get a cheap baking pan and cut out a piece of the bottom to get a flat piece you can use in the same way. Just cut a 4" circle out of it.
home depot
Yeah but can it catch a cold?
You are a super creative guy keep IT up. Tomorrow im going to build the Humane Mousetrap you made with the 2L bottle. Bcz we got a mouse in our house because the cat brought em in and lost it. Soo we'll seee 🐁
I tried a quarter instead of five nickels, it did not work.
hola ise la trampa y no me fuciona solo la pruebo y despues aparece la puerta cerrada y no atrapo nada
I watched until the end just to see what would happen to the mouse
He let the sweet little harmless mouse go - but STILL got some hate thumbs down. You just can't win. Maybe those haters are mouse haters. lol
These traps need added ventilation or they are not very humane.
get this to idubbz
Rat dab video?
Dam ur good !!!!!! Thanks but I wont be releasing the mice I catch lol
Hi
How many nickels is a rat?
Hey who is that?
+sketchart photo Mystery guest.
Needs a longer intro
Sarcasm or do you mean that?
I built your trap. But it has a huge defect. Rats crawl all over things before they do anything else. This sets off the trap. This trap needs to be enclosed to prevent this.
Other have said they placed a small box over the rear half to prevent that.Trim the box to fit. I hope that helps!
Next time use hot glue instead of screws. Hold power is the same but assembly is 10x faster.
I used that first. It snaps off with out much effort. Screw was the best.
@@chrisnotap It can happen if the gun used cannot produce high heat. More expensive guns can provide a hotter glue that holds way better.
For some reason I thought I was commenting on the video about my squirrel trap where I screw it on. I did use hot glue in this video but I did say only the word "glue". I should have said "hot glue".
Guessing trapped in a tube , they won’t survive more than a few hours
