I made one of these traps about a month ago and have caught and relocated 19 squirrels and counting. My lawn and my wife’s flower garden thank you. Best trap ever!
This is sequential logic that should be taught in schools. It is a practical manner to introduce many movements including mathematics and computer logic in a manner of speaking as all the trap is, it is a computer that catches squirrels with its logic. Many children are sick and tired of sitting in a class learning symbols of the alphabet with its artificiality. Many children like movements and logic and here is a unit that could provide interest to children. * It teaches balance, torque. levers. * It teaches geometry and trigonometry through the change of distances in the release mechanicsm. * It teaches the shutting unit and the closing action where the momentum and conservation of energy would cause bouncing. * It teaches how to damp the action through the magnets. * I like the locking device where the shutter is locked by the barrier you included. * it teaches the relation between circumference and a diameter and if measurements are taken even pi could be determined! * It teaches about tangents to a curve * As far as handling the material itself, its springiness, its moment of inertia as one notices the delay involved. Schools should introduce such adventurous spirits in schools and so many more static and dynamic issues. Congratulations, many teachers would not approve of this method of knowledge transfer, but it is to be considered as to its effect. Education should not be symbolic and for the convenience of the teachers, but for the good and interest of the students.
Traditional teachings produced great scientists and engineers with spectacular achievements like sending probes to distant planets, the Cassini spacecraft to Saturn, among others. The effect of US school system is already there. No other country, including Russia, was able to emulate US space exploration. "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
So, I bookmarked this like two years ago intending to build one but never got around to it. Then a few weeks ago they started eating my cushions on my porch swing and chairs, so I made one. Awesome man. In the last three days I've caught six squirrels and released them over at the city park about five miles away. I will probably incorporate the improved tips from your other video here pretty soon. Right on man.
Update to previous posting, made one of these , set it last night on my allotment , Caught the grey squirrel straight away -- Brilliant piece of kit -- better than factory produced traps.

Just made one of these for a squirrel trapped in my house. Worked like a charm! Perfect solution for us City Folk who don't want to Kill, 🐿 or pay a Big Bill. 💵💵 $20. in materials went a long way! Thanks a Million!!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I built one of these recently. Caught my first squirrel in it yesterday. Thanks very much for the great design. Yes, I did add the mods from the updated vid.
I appreciate this man its my senior year in high school and I have to make something. I chose a Squirrel trap. Its a graduate requirement. I owe you man. Thank you so much!!!!
I try to do that with all my videos. Thanks! I will be uploading another squirrel trap soon made from a 6" vent pipe. I'm getting footage as we speak. Stay tuned
Just a couple of changes. Drill a couple of holes toward the back for air and light for the squirrel to see the peanuts. Instead of using a coupler you can use a short piece of the 4" and split it along the top. To avoid the door hanging open a little when the trap goes down cut the pipe at a small angle so that when it goes down the door will be vertical.
Great idea!!! I'm going to make a trap like this to catch possums (Gambá) that are on the roof. Here in Brazil we dont have squirrels, but I think that your idea works for this kind of animal too. You got a new subscriber. thanks
Yes I did, kind sir. I made the adjustments. Your video is clear, interesting and high quality. The only improvement I could think of would be to include a shot of a list of materials. My memory is not so good so I had to watch it many times before I could write it all down (I'm a 57 year old grandmother). Despite being a complete novice at making such things, I managed to make this by myself and I am quite proud of myself :). It was actually fun! Thank you so much! Now, with the varmints gone, I am getting more eggs!
I myself don't have a pet, but meow mix would work great! Dry food is best, no clean up. That is fantastic that you are a novice and that you were able to make it yourself. I'm proud of you too!!! Thanks for the feed back on the quality of the video and that it's interesting. I must be on the right track. Love to hear what else you catch with it when you do.
Ok now that I've discovered you (6 years late) I'm bingeing on you vids.☺️ Thank you for sharing your smarts with us!! Some of us need it alot more than others.☺️
Small suggestion. Inside their empty garbage can on garbage collection day (remember to secure the lid afterwards). SURPRISE!...and slightly hoping they have an overly full badder at the time.
Well presented, not assuming that you don't know anything. ("this is a PVC pipe, used mostly for drainage, it has been in use by the plumbing industry since 1964," yada yada yada..." Thanks!
I’ve just made this as I have 5 pesky squirrels wrecking my garden and bird feeders, I just sit and watch them through the window as they dig up my spring bulbs and eat them…. it works a dream, I caught 2 and relocated them 10 miles away in woods away from houses, thanks Chris, genius build👍….. Update!, I have now caught 8in total, just one to go, added a 120gm weight to the door end so the squirrel goes to the very end of the tube as some have escaped as the tail has not gone in and kept the door open, still an amazing build!….. update! caught 17 in total, as I catch what I think is the last another “moves in”… it’s now a hobby!
this is the best DIY trap ! Brilliant designed idea ! very practical and can catch rats/mice even better ! Really Really smart ! Thanks uploading your video !
I appreciate your efforts to safely relocate the squirrel . I am a hunter but if I'm not going to eat it I don't want to kill it. They are a nuisance when they take over the yard and bully the feeders.
This is brilliant!! And the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I'm going to make several. I see that you have made an update, so I will watch that first. I love this. Thanks!
The wire tip is dangerous because a child can step on it and itch its foot. You should use a longer wire and bend it so that it is curved, so that it does not have a sharp point and thus it is not stepped on by a child, or by a blind old man.
Idiot. There is no humane squirrel trap to relocate them - you mess up nature’s balance and can relocate mother squirrels and their babies starve. People are so stupid and cruel
Whatever gets in it is gonna be relocated.😂 I used leach line 4" with air holes already in it. Lighter weight and a little cheaper! Also used small Folgers plastic coffee "can" instead of PVC cap that was $9! Kind of defeated purpose of building one cheaper than you can buy. Also, you are able to remove it easily if needed. Seems to work, setting it out in the morning to see what happens!
I am a new subscriber to your channel and I loved the rain barrels, squirrel trap and hot water flick videos! Ty vm for posting your videos for me to learn from. Have a great weekend
Thank you so much! I was trying to find a way to get the squirrels out of the enclosure to clean it without them running all over the house. Almost everything that came up was a lethal trap for hunting, and that's definitely not what we wanted. Again, thank you!
Brilliant. One thing I learnt is squirrels are smart. Had like 4 squirrels out back digging up my yard. Used a rat trap.. was able to catch one. When I went to fetch the caught squirrel, 1 other was trying to hep it escape and the other 2 up on the trees watching. After resetting the trap later in the afternoon one of the squirrels was approaching the trap but the helper squirrel ran quick and stopped the squirrel from touching the trap. Since, no squirrel has bothered to get the food from the trap...
This, my friend, is genius.......something I have been working on myself, but as a pack-rat trap that protects the contents of my barn instead of a squirrel catcher, but nonetheless..... a breakthrough!!!! I have tried everything from poison to sticky-pads and they avoid the poison and turn the stickies over so they stick to the concrete.............without getting caught themselves..... Thanks for the finishing touches.........Bravo!
Mice serve as food for birds of prey, snakes, tarantulas, and large centipedes. They also use to spread grains via feces..but now that we mass plant everything, they aren't useful there
Brilliant! I respect people who use their brains and come up with ways to deal with things. It doesn't take any brains to pull a trigger or set a snap trap to kill squirrels. These people get no respect at all. Well done!
Tree rats, my neighbor was feeding them as they are,, cute, they thought. The squirrels got into my truck's hood and chewed up wires to the tune of $1400 and got in there three times in total. Used repellents, and other methods till I got onto the Ultrasonic repellent generators, and this finally put a stop to it. For now., but have to see what happens next spring.
After seeing your brilliant trap, I imagine a cartoon long movie with Chip and Dale caught together in this trap. Think about all the thrill, brainstorming, planning, teamwork and so on... "The Great Escape". Walt Disney could be proud on this scenario! LOL
I live in an urban area with many large oak trees and consequently many squirrels wreaking havoc on gardens. News that squirrels will possibly have an extra litter in 2024 is not good news. Last year I built this PVC trap to the initial design but often found that curious squirrels would climb on top and trigger the mechanism without capture. Also particularly excitable captures could bolt out the flap before fully tipping. I resolved these problems by enclosing the end half with a hardware cloth structure and using magnetic catches to hold the flap. I also put a hardware cloth screen at the end of the tube to increase bait visibility. Placing inaccessible nuts in the outer enclosure acts as an extra enticement. I placed the trap at the base of a heavily traveled tree and this Spring I usually have capture within a few hours. Now a very effective trap! Next project is building an owl house!

That's great! Stay tuned. I am making another trap that uses a standard 6 inch furnace vent pipe and easier to make and uses a different type of door.

My sister has had a squirrel issue at her home for a while. I found this trap to be my trap of choice to build. Thank you for the great presentation

A very clever trap. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for such a concise and well thought out humane trap. This is one of the best videos I have seen.
Sir, you are a prince! Thank you for this very clever solution!
I am a fan, great idea. No springs, easy to reset and parts I have in the garage already.
I like the oldschool trapping how the first settlers did. This is the newschool and I like it too. Keep evolving
Really GREAT and well thought out trap for those little varmints!
Should have patented and sold this one. Brilliant
I like this design, I would drill a 3/4" hole on the top, a couple of inches from each end, pellet or BB access point.
Or a 120 volt probe!
Chris , this is the best trap
and your presentation is splended. A 5 STAR Achievement out of 5 !

Aaron Shafer Thanks for your experience shared. F’in squirrels are smart. Notap design is very well engineered, plus the above 15 catch!

Now have relocated 32 in 18 months , squirrels not to bright!

yes shelled peanuts are the best bait...but they are not cheap....not the amounts that the chippers and squirrels are munching them up

We had a rescue from infant and released him after 2 years.
This is clever. Damn.

After making this I found a cardboard box covering the rear half keeps them from climbing on the rear portion
