    • @alecboyyes
      @alecboyyes 8 лет назад +51

      +MannyFresh1x Not as such, there's an energy recovery turbine in the exhaust, as sound represents wasted energy. I believe most of the 80's cars had twin turbos as well, whereas the current ones are single turbos.

These v6 turbo's are amazing, the butterfly effect all over again:D. i wish we could get these engines in the 2015 cars:) or the v10's or the v12. because those engine where violent and passionate. thats why we're all here:)

      I went to silver tone this year and I did fear that the engines were going to be rubbish, they weren't bad but before the race we had a tribute to older F1 cars and it had the red bull from 2012. It just put things in perspective. They may be making the engines louder for 2015

    • @tommy4862
      @tommy4862 10 лет назад +4

      Thomas Rockett They can't just make it louder. It sounds like that because it's hybrid and they use energy in exhaust for charging the batterys and that makes it silent. It's a shame I think in racing the engines should be brutal and not fuel saving hybrids we can save that for our road cars.

    • @robshootuit
      @robshootuit 10 лет назад +1

      tommy4862 if they remove the energy recovering system for the exhaust than the engine would get a lot more volume instead of the f1 2014 sound, but that is up to the fia to decide. but knowing them they wont care.

    • @tommy4862
      @tommy4862 10 лет назад +1

      robshootuit Exactly but why would they do that if they invested so much money and time to get this more efficient engine? I read that they may increase fuel limit so the engines can reach 1000hp so hopefully sound will get better aswell :)

    IMO undeniable the best F1 period - the ‘80s turbo era. Love the look and sound of the cars. All the cars very different and unique. Love the backfiring and flames from the excess fuel in the headers. It says something when you have a crowd of people around a garage applauding when the engine has been running.

      Helvecio Neto i think they use current race gas here with low boost, retarded ignition-timings and small turbos. In 1985 they use "toluene" fuel who need to be heated before the engine starts. I dont see this in this video. But they are definitely louder as todays engines....:(

    • @nutsackmania
      @nutsackmania 9 лет назад +19

      I'm telling you...watch the parade lap for a race in 1985. The cars were afterfiring/popping like crazy.They used fuel to cool the components in the combustion chamber of the turbo cars before the introduction of severe fuel limits, so you have unburned fuel exploding in various tubes, probably soft misfires on part throttle, etc... Back then it was more gas+more boost=more power=more gooder.

      It's not actually miss firing- it's all the unburned fuel igniting in the pipes on the way out. They used to use fuel to cool the cyl's in this era, intentionally dumping a lot of extra fuel which would cool the pistons and values. It's what caused the introduction of strict fuel economy limits in F1... It sounds like a huge miss, but it's not. It's just what they sounded like back then... 👌

    I heard these engines at Rio de Janeiro in 86’
    They had many pops under decel and when shifting, but not under partial or full throttle, like this one…
    Otherwise, they sounded smooth as you can notice in other videos. many

    • @Xtremecarfan10188
      @Xtremecarfan10188 Год назад

      Yeah, some people are saying they used extra fuel to cool the engine or something but I think they are wrong. I agree with you something sounds off and it shouldn’t be crackling or breaking up under acceleration, that doesn’t seem normal.

    Great vifdeo. Lotus was a good team. Legendary. There were many top drivers driving there, those who became world champions. Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Mika Häkkinen and Kimi Räikkönen for example. Kimi Räikkönen is Lotus's last winner. Abu Dhabi 2012 and Australia 2013. It's extraordinary that as many as four Finns drove with Lotus. Mika Häkkinen, Mika Salo, Heikki Kovalainen and Kimi Räikkönen.

    It's great seeing historic cars like this on the track. Let me be the first to say, that I expected it sound better. You're always hearing hearing how brutal Turbo Era cars sounded... It's too bad it was wet, maybe it sounds better on full throttle in the dry.
