robshootuit Exactly but why would they do that if they invested so much money and time to get this more efficient engine? I read that they may increase fuel limit so the engines can reach 1000hp so hopefully sound will get better aswell :)
IMO undeniable the best F1 period - the ‘80s turbo era. Love the look and sound of the cars. All the cars very different and unique. Love the backfiring and flames from the excess fuel in the headers. It says something when you have a crowd of people around a garage applauding when the engine has been running.
Sounds like it's got a hell of a misfire. Was this its first run in 28 years, or maybe the engine's just not happy with the rain and cold temperatures?
It's a rev governor. Surely they don't thrust the pilot or they want to preserve the engine and adjust the governor to very low revs. So that's that misfiring sound.
Helvecio Neto i think they use current race gas here with low boost, retarded ignition-timings and small turbos. In 1985 they use "toluene" fuel who need to be heated before the engine starts. I dont see this in this video. But they are definitely louder as todays engines....:(
I'm telling you...watch the parade lap for a race in 1985. The cars were afterfiring/popping like crazy. They used fuel to cool the components in the combustion chamber of the turbo cars before the introduction of severe fuel limits, so you have unburned fuel exploding in various tubes, probably soft misfires on part throttle, etc... Back then it was more gas+more boost=more power=more gooder.
It's not actually miss firing- it's all the unburned fuel igniting in the pipes on the way out. They used to use fuel to cool the cyl's in this era, intentionally dumping a lot of extra fuel which would cool the pistons and values. It's what caused the introduction of strict fuel economy limits in F1... It sounds like a huge miss, but it's not. It's just what they sounded like back then... 👌
