Thanks for putting this up F1. I was there at the age of 11, my late father took me to the only GP I’ve witnessed in person. The sound of the cars impressed me the most in an unforgettable experience. It poured cats and dogs, I was cold but was hooked for life on the sport. Senna’s drive was truly amazing. Can’t help but smile looking at these images, with track personnel pushing cars on the circuit while the race continues, mechanics literally standing on track to cheer for Ayrton at the checkered flag. Dangerous times of course, but also simpler, pure and I do miss them.
Imo the greatest racing driver of all time. Needless to say outside of his sport one of the greatest as well (donations, charity work, the Senna Instituto, his F1 safety concerns)

He got a bunch of podiums in his 1984 Toleman too. Everyone speaks of Monaco but forget the other ones including GB. 7 DNF's that year and still made top 10 in the drivers championship! A very serious Man indeed. I bet the other drivers wondered why the smile was cordial rather than jubilant when this rookie was putting a back of the grid car next to theirs on the podium. Now they know. Man had a "right to win"!
I remember seeing this race on ESPN back home in Iowa. I saw Senna at the Monaco Grand Prix a year earlier and knew he was destined to be a great one. He was greater than great.
I was ten and, as always, I watched the race at my grandparents' house. I can still remember the feeling of "predestination" I felt when I saw Senna's first Grand Prix victory. After Monaco 1984 everyone knew how strong he was in the wet, but the race in Portugal was epic.
I hate when this “True F1” shows up. F1 is F1. No matter which era you’re watching or racing in. In the 80s drivers challenged much more their fate inside the car but you can argue that the sport was much less professional than it is now. Drivers today are much more physically prepared, much more close to the limit (also thanks to the huge activity they do in simulator) and for sure deserve the same respect you give to the old ones.

I was a Lotus fan and was on a driving holiday in France. The only way of following this race was in the car listening on a french radio station that kept going in and out. The weather was equally foul where I was. How special memories are formed.

Really nice from Patrick Tambay on the podium to be so excited about Senna's first win. He did what everyone should really do on a podium, celebrate the winner. Nowadays the first place go celebrate with their team representative and the second and third shower each other with champagne.

A very much deserved and worth win, after missing out on his first win in Monaco in a Toleman the year before. He needed just two more laps to get it!
Senna's first win was in my humble opinion his best - an absolutely magnificent drive. Poignantly, all three drivers on the podium are no longer alive ☹️.
