I was raised close to Interlagos... it was amazing that during the race weekends we could listen to those F1 engines loud and clear, even though my home was 3km from the circuit. Those were the days...

Sono di Modena. Quando ero bambino, anni 60, e la Ferrari provava all'Autodromo in città, nonostante noi abitassimo a circa 3,5 km, sentivamo nitido il rombo del 12 cilindri e smettevamo di giocare per ascoltare. Un suono, una memoria...
Boxer 12 cilindri.
Un poco fragile ma distinguibile immediatamente quando passava.
Altro fischio, non rombo, il 16 cilindri BRM, rumore raro dato che rompeva sempre.
Verissimo!!Io abito a circa 10km da Monza,in linea d'aria.Negli anni passati,sentivo il rombo dei motori..Fantastico ricordo.Ora mi sembrano macchine per signorine in cerca di emozioni.
Un suono, una memoria.....una melodia! ! !

I heard this beast at full throttle at Spa against the V10 McLaren Honda with Senna at the wheel. Scary, adrenalin pumping, almost fear at the sound. The Ferrari had a higher pitch engine note and the Honda just sounded brutal. Both cars flying up through Eau Rouge screaming will stay with me for the rest of my life. How F1 should sound.

That transition from a low and deep growl to a high pitched scream and back always sends shivers down my spine!

I don't know if you've ever heard the V12 sing in person, because you can have the best sound system in the world, but the high frequency sound pressure that entered the stomach and even vibrated the ground under your feet, a video will never return it.

@@johnny8227 Creo que el tema de la contaminacion de los autos de F1 esta en el fondo de las prioridades. La razon por la que se usan Motores V6 es porque su eficiencia es mucho mayor. Estamos hablando del 50% aproximadamente mientras que los motores viejos desperdician el 70% del combustible. Además esto no es solo una competencia también una carrera tecnológica y por el progreso. Si vez formula 1 por como suenan los motores entonces estas equivocado
@@johnny8227 Estas completamente equivocado. Estas tan errado que ni siquiera tienes en cuenta el factor de la eficiencia simplemente porque no te importa. Por supuesto que les importa a los equipos la eficiencia de los motores y jamás van a tener en cuenta semejantes tonterías como el sonido que hagan. Repito lo que dije antes. Si vez formula 1 por el sonido estas equivocado. Esto es una competencia y eso es lo que importa, muchísimo mas que el sonido de un motor.

De hecho, todas esas cosas que acabas de decir son ciertas, jamás he estado en un gran premio ni escuchado en vivo un motor "real"(?). Así como cambien es cierto que estos argumentos son tan patéticos como pretender que la formula 1 ya no es como antes porque los motores no son los de antes. Bajo esa misma lógica usted tampoco tiene derecho de opinar sobre automovilismo, solo un piloto de la categoría puede hacerlo.

Ross Murison shumacher raced in the early 90s I think he started in 92 but not for ferrari for Jordan and benneton
Schumacher did race in 1991 but it was for Jordan as a replacement, certainly not for Ferrari which he moved to in '96. The Golden days of the schumacher era were the years 2000-2004, I think Jyoshil Pitamber was thinking that this Ferrari was from '94 or '95 which could be considered golden days for schumacher too when he drove and won the championships with Benetton.
That off-throttle growl is insane! It contrasts so well with the screaming.

i remember in those days, going at Monza for the test sessions, you could tell how many cars were on track and what part of the circuit they were just listening to their engines sound from kilometers away before even arriving at the track. this is just how a f1 should sound like

Amazing noise, can still remember first time I ever heard an F1 in anger at Silverstone 1988 with the Ferrari V12, so distinctive.
Same for me. First ever visit to the British GP approaching the gates to get in and hearing a Ferrari V12 going down the pit straight at full chat in warm up. That sound brought a tear of joy to my eye that day and I've never forgotten it. Emotional not like now. Prefer my bike racing these days.

A McLaaren fan myself.... yet I do appreciate the sounds of all engines V10 and higher. The V8's and lower really cut the heart out of F1....
I don't know the stats but I do believe the V10s reved higher than the V-12s... I remember when Honda reached 20k RPM in a V-10...
Nice comment. Yes, the V10's were the highest spinning engines but only because V12's were no longer around after 1995. V12's ran higher rpm's but were very thirsty so teams decided to use V10's.

I remember these cars at Adelaide GP, we would watch from under the grandstand at the end of pit straight and you knew these cars were coming because they had such a distinctive sound, it was as if they were Revving twice as hard, such a beautiful sound
So glad I was a race mechanic in the 80’s and 90’s and not now. What a thrill to work on those cars and hearing that sound.

What's THE MOST depressing is that the racing drivers can't go all out because they have to save fuel and tires....

Firemarioflower They can at least push harder on this years tires than last year. If they just removed the fuel amount and fuel flow limit we'd get 15k rpm and they wouldn't have to conserve fuel. Also remove MGU-H, too complicated and kills sound.
The 97T had a Renault V6 and sounded really good; the depressing part of today's F1 is the stupid hybrid and EVERY fucking thing controled by a computer and not the driver.

Even though, F1 cars are breaking records in several tracks the latest years with less cylinders, the sound of the V12 it's really incredible, that is the real sound of the F1, it is what sounds in my head at least.

I last heard this sound live at British GP 1990. During the race I closed my eyes as the cars roared past Abbey curve and I could tell which cars were the Ferrari V12s with semi auto gearbox. I could also recall the Benetton Ford V8s with manual gearbox by contrast sounded just like plumbing noise. The golden era of F1 definitely.

Ma mille volte meglio queste vecchie glorie delle attuali F1 turbo + kers, tutta elettronica stabilità, rombo ovattato e stucchevole pastosità del motore. Questo 3500 V12 (ma anche il 3000 V10 era una libidine), per quanto fosse difficile da gestire, era troppo più affascinante.

When I was a kid, I knew about Formula 1. I was into motorsports from a very young age so Formula 1 clicked with me. Those cars, especially this one here was insane. They were so fast.
This entire 640-643 range was my favorite looking F1 car.
