    A contractor programmed our thermostat to 85° late winter 2019 ,our gas bill that month was $465. We weren't able to reset it, so I turned off the thermostat. We only used it to take the chill out the air & added extra blankets on the beds, and all slept well.
    We have to try this resetting method, our house is older & it really holds the cold, despite our best efforts. Thanks for the upload 😃

    Thank you for your help with this! I get SO confused when I'm looking at my thermostat because I don't know if it's showing what I want the temperature to be or what it actually is in the house. This video really helped to clear that up for me!
    I have a 3 level townhouse that's all controlled by 1 thermostat so there's always 1 very cold floor and 1 warm floor in the summer and reversed in the winter. My electric bill is $300 this month and most of that is from my A/C so after watching your video I just raised my thermostat from 72 to 75 degrees and I'm hoping that I will see a difference in my bill next month, fingers crossed!!

    • @Demoralized88
      @Demoralized88 Год назад +1

      I know this is an old comment, but basements can lower heating/cooling bills, especially with 3 floors. Running just the furnace fan will mix the air from the (cool) basement with the (very hot) upstairs, averaging the temp to around the middle level while using 90%+ less energy than running the A/C or Heat. Upstairs temps will drop significantly and not become so heat-soaked during hotter days. This is an essential component of HVAC (central air) but most 'dumb' thermostats only run the fan when also running A/C or Heating. Decent thermostats can set to automatically circulate the air every so often instead of either being always on (waste of electricity) or always off (default).
      It's also important to adjust the vents themselves during the warmer and cooler seasons to further improve comfort and energy savings. For instance, during summer you want the cool air in the basement mostly being blown to the upstairs while wanting the hot upstairs air to be drawn to the lower levels. Therefor, you want the returns fully open in the basement and top floor, along with fully opening the upstairs supply ducts (registers) for the best mixing possible between the hottest and coolest levels. You can also partially close the vents of the middle floor for better results if you find the middle is often comfortable or even a little too cool. Manually adjusting vents makes a big difference in balancing temps but some caution should be used to not close too many which may result in the furnace fan working a bit harder. It's also important to make sure you have a clean furnace filter (wider is LESS restrictive i.e. 4" is MUCH better than 1") for better flow, especially if closing a significant percentage of vents.
      I've been running the A/C much less after doing these things and it's way more comfortable upstairs where I spend all of my time. We have a dumb thermostat so I've been manually turning the 'Fan' setting from 'auto' to 'on' as needed until upgrading to a thermostat that has that option built in.

      I think I need to do that now. I had a power outage and things are messed up. I don’t want to set a schedule, I prefer the up and down Hold method. The left, inside temperature number stays at 66 for some reason, but it’s not that cold. I keep trying to set the heater temp at 72 and press hold, but it’s not holding, it just shuts off willy nilly. Any advice? Thank you so much!!
