I looked up the cafe and it still exists ! It turns out its a cute little bar that has a small stage to perform on. This kind of bar/venue is mostly for under ground artists. What makes this song great, even unique for Kurt Cobain, is that it’s just a fun song. Kurt is remembered for these dark themed songs or pieces of poetry he would write and string together, but this one belongs with songs like “Sliver”. It even sounds like a song Foo Fighters would do in the late ‘90s. Something that would be put on a late ‘90s teen movie soundtrack.
Two studio rehearsals were recorded there's a tiny snippet on here of one 15 seconds it's the prechorus part and ends just as he screams "Talk" it sounds amazing like this comment tomorrow and I'll go hunt it down for you tomorrow when I wake I'm fkd from working all day lol one love

He's using his vintage '69 Mustang from the Teen Spirit video here, it was his favorite guitar. He only had his Jag-Stang prototype for a few months in '94 on the In Utero tour when Pat Smear was in the band and he didn't like it much, he planned to have Fender make changes which never happened. They had just sent him some Japanese reissue Mustangs that his tech had modified to his specs (these are the guitars the Kurt Cobain signature Mustangs are based on) and he liked those more than the JS.
This would have been a classic smash hit for any other band and yet for Cobain it was basically a throwaway. If that doesn’t put you in awe of his raw songwriting ability then I don’t know what will.
this is a great song, great .. There are many beautiful Nirvana songs that haven't been released yet. if kurt were still alive, Nirvana would have made an album with good songs ..
It’s a shame this wasn’t properly recorded... it most definitely would’ve been big... it’s just SO Nirvana.... I think perhaps Kurt opted not to use it because of its mainstream appeal.

I could see cello being in that song… Then there was also Kurt’s interest in Dave’s songs; Exhausted and Alone & Easy Target, but was shy about asking if he could use them and put his lyrics to them… Kurt mentioned how in retrospect he wished he showed more of the bands softer side… so I always imagine had they done a 4th album it probably would’ve had a couple rockers (of course) but then also more soft, delicate type songs… Like I could imagine the first few songs being rockers and then the album segues into more softer pop gems and then the end of the album returning to a couple rocker again like 2-3 rocker in the start and end of the album…. Today, October 4th 2020, I woke up with this song in my mind. I looked up for some more information in the bootleg DVD I have, "Nirvana Talk To Me 1989-1993", and guess what: it happened exactly 28 years ago, at The Crocodile Café, Seatlle.
In that there's an otherworldly quality to him. The light kind of hits his face in a way that makes him look ethereal. Sorry to contribute to idolization stuff but I find him hard not to be fascinated by, more so than other celebs.
I bought the With The Lights Out boxset the day it came out in 2004 and the dvd it came with had this on it. My friend and I were blown away by this song that we'd never heard before. Still one of my favs.

in the way that Black Francis might have listened to The Association? This Nirvana song does have an echo of that piece of “Here Comes Your Man” but in a different tempo and spot. But the verse of “Here Comes My Man” is almost dead on to “Never My Love” by The Association. I told this once to Black Francis when he was deflecting Kurt’s line about Teen Spirit being a Pixies rip off. He said he had heard the similarity on his own song vs Never My Love. His eyes widened when I pointed out Teen Spirit tracks parts of “More Than a Feeling” pretty close.
I think this songs opening is the only is the only time I've heard krist make an obvious mistake. Dave sounds powerful here, i love this song and I'm sad it never got a studio release. The lyrics seem pretty relevant to today, everyone I talk to is just.. a talking head, no real friends atm :(

I have been spending hours of time, researching this song... I have found that he has 2 sets of lyrics and I am having a lot of trouble trying to understand exactly the words he is saying... Most Websites claim the first line is "Shake it down easy, Shake it down sleazy, come on" this is definitely not the first line... In one version the second line is completely different from other versions. I think that the lyrics of the first 2 lines still need to be researched to find true lyrics.

I bought the With The Lights Out boxset the day it came out in 2004 and the dvd it came with had this on it. My friend and I were blown away by this song that we'd never heard before. Still one of my favs.
Ahh my favorite Nirvana song. Also loved all the Wipers covers they did. I wish the kids today would put the video games down and pick up an instrument. The world is dying for rock to make a comeback. We need some musicians before that will happen.

This Nirvana song does have an echo of that piece of “Here Comes Your Man” but in a different tempo and spot. But the verse of “Here Comes My Man” is almost dead on to “Never My Love” by The Association. I told this once to Black Francis when he was deflecting Kurt’s line about Teen Spirit being a Pixies rip off. He said he had heard the similarity on his own song vs Never My Love. His eyes widened when I pointed out Teen Spirit tracks parts of “More Than a Feeling” pretty close.
I think it's more like DEVO in ways.
Hope you'll see this after 8 months. Pixies were a huge influence on Kurt. If you dig a bit in internet you'll find that info

I think this songs opening is the only is the only time I've heard krist make an obvious mistake. Dave sounds powerful here, i love this song and I'm sad it never got a studio release. The lyrics seem pretty relevant to today, everyone I talk to is just.. a talking head, no real friends atm :(

@@bizbabo2982 They brought smear in as a rhythm guitarist specifically because Kurt's SOLOS were usually experimental and he'd fuck around instead of sticking to the songs actual guitar parts. They weren't "parody" he was "messing around" but he wasn't taking the piss out of his SOLOS that he 1000% had.
@Rapter57 i know i love how they truly wernt tied down to one specific genre or sound... like this sounds like straight up rock to me along with songs like oh the guilt then theres insanely heavy songs, light songs, sad, happy, energetic songs... everything!!

I have been spending hours of time, researching this song... I have found that he has 2 sets of lyrics and I am having a lot of trouble trying to understand exactly the words he is saying...
Most Websites claim the first line is "Shake it down easy, Shake it down sleazy, come on" this is definitely not the first line... In one version the second line is completely different from other versions. I think that the lyrics of the first 2 lines still need to be researched to find true lyrics.
