Traxxas TRX4M BUILD - BIG PERFORMANCE GAINS! NEW Long Travel Shocks, Brass Upgrades & More!!

  • In this episode, I continue to refine the Traxxas TRX4M. I get my hands on a bunch of brass parts to add weight and widen the track. After some disappointing runs, I go back to the drawing board and add new Losi shocks, upgraded chassis kit, and make more body adjustments. The end result was worth the trouble!

    After lots of testing I maxed out at 56 degree incline with the stock shocks and springs. The trx4m has a lot of torque twist and I found that putting 4 shock spacers on the rear passenger made it crawl so much better. Might be worth checking out and putting a weak spring in the rear right to combat that torque twist.

    • @CapeCrawlers
      @CapeCrawlers  Год назад +7

      56 is impressive! That explains why the stock setup has the spacer pre installed in the rear. I’ll do some tweaking with this in mind 👍🏻

    I am in process of building an extended wheelbase trx4m. Will be cutting the front frame arms off for more servo clearance. Losi B shocks are on the way! thanks for proving them out. You're going to need to run rear springs of some sort. I just can't get away without them to reduce the frame twist. My rubber band limiter seems to be most effective when connected to the servo bracket instead of the links. Love to see where this build is heading. I've given up on the factory body. Even after removing the top and windows, it's still crazy heavy.

      @@CapeCrawlers I see they just posted the Bettle for pre-order ;) I'm going for LCG type crawler, so I prefer grasshopper style with full length rails so I can push the upper shock mounts toward the link pivots. I'm going to see how far the factory chassis rails will get me, first. for mocking up, new setup will be factory trx4m rear lower links with custom length uppers to provide appropriate front caster angle. Once I finalize that, I'll likely fab some custom high-clearance links front and rear.

I bought links, trans, servo, axles and gears for my gladiator scx24 but Since i did the build my truck doesn't work...long storey short, My wheels spin constantly, as soon as i turn it on they start moving, and the rig doesn't go very fast anymore, not sure what i did wrong??? maybe i tightened the trans to much? wheels are lose enough i believe, but i do have aftermarket bead-locks, but not sure why the wheels move forward constantly. That's a good idea: pitfalls of upgrades! Your issue sounds like an electrical one of some sort. Possibly the transmitter and the throttle settings? Have you tried messing with the throttle adjustments? It could be a faulty ESC also. Sometimes they glitch out after adding new electronics or heavier/more demanding upgrades.

    • @deanweller5789

      Here's a video on bleeding (towards the end): ruclips.net/video/OH_vloPzHvY/видео.html
      I used 4-7 drops of oil, not much at all. I rely on the wheels and axles to pull them down. They stick when I first pick it up after not using it for a while but after they're worked a bit they are nice and smooth.

    I'm gonna say this looks like articulation for the sake of articulation without understanding what suspension does. You need to have a close look at weight distribution and how much total weight you've added. Added torque wants to be planted and properly balanced. In addition torque twisting needs to be addressed with that weight distribution.
    Just having the wheels touch the ground doesn't help if the torque is going to the wrong wheel(s).
    This is meant as constructive criticism, I really like the videos. 😎

    • @CapeCrawlers
      @CapeCrawlers  Год назад

      You are absolutely right: articulation for the sake of articulation. Just plain fun. I fell in love with tinkering these little things chasing the articulation, so it's almost my default approach to see how much articulation I can get out of these things.

      The servo mount is always going to limit your vertical axle drop. There isn’t really a way around that. You can articulate really well side to side with an aftermarket chassis and/or a laydown servo mount, but the upper link mounting on the front will always hold you back
