Kevin: Take Steven’s advice and see a doctor and get bloodwork done. I was addicted to cigarettes and alcohol. Terrible combination. Try AA AND ask for an experienced AA sponsor to help you. Start eating healthy foods and exercise. That really helped me with the horrible withdrawal symptoms and anxiety. Don’t worry about temporary setbacks. Recovery will come but you must concentrate on the great feeling of sobriety that brings success.
Kevin, ask for help tomorrow. My best friend said the same to me, he couldn't stop, we tried everything but 2 years ago tomorrow he was found dead in bed, just 58.
8yrs ago I came off with librium (or was it lithium?)at a walk in clinic in Brighton. It was good, but I moved to Worthing and relapsed. I was in such a bad state, I was dying and the doctor (Shelly Rd Surgery) refused to help, eventually banning me for being rude to them. On the point of death I was admitted to what was like a hostel and I tapered off with strict supervision. I was in a wheelchair and 'Knocking on Heaven's Door'. Sober now for 7yrs and NO THANKS TO NHS.
Librium is used in the US at reputable rehabs but i think you need medical supervision. Excellent for seizure prevention and helps with withdrawal symptoms. It’s actually one of the older benzodiazepines but people get great results…I’m living proof. Treatments like this should be available at clinics or through a primary doctor!😊
I did go to a detox clinic (UKAT) after one bad relapse. £4500 that cost me for a 14 day residential stay. They take everything from you, money, wallet, credit cards, razors, phone, laptop, and they give you librium four times a day. This eliminates all withdrawals and you come out as fresh as a daisy. Shame that this is not available on the NHS as there is a lot of need for it
Hi Marc! Short term librium was a godsend for me….it’s shameful it’s not more readily available to alcoholics and addicts. Either through inpatient, outpatient, clinics or a primary doctor to monitor. It truly has saved many of my friend’s lives and insurance covers it in the 🇺🇸
The last few relapses lasted two weeks of drinking all day and night. A litre of vodka a day or 3 bottles red wine, plus cans of stella. When I came round from the relapse and realised my reality, I know that I have to do a hard taper which I do over a week, and I break it into two parts. 1. Daytime 2. Evening. To crack the daytime withdrawals, I know the gut wrenching anxiety attacks will come in waves. When it starts then I take a small drink - and it soon passes. Next, I keep drinking water - lots of it - and go for a long brisk walk (taking with me a small alcoholic drink ready for the next wave). And I keep walking - anywhere and everywhere - all day until I am alcohol free in the daytime. After three days I then tackle the evening drinking by delaying any evening drink by one hour each night. Until after a few days I am just using alcohol to sleep. When I am comfortable with where I am at, then I attemp my first alcohol free sleep - ALWAYS a nightmare but I know its the only way - you meet the Devil in your dreams. After that comes relief, plus mental exhaustion, but it passes after a week. This is a dangerous way to do it - but it worked for me a few times now and maybe now I will reflect on that and keep well away from that poison.
I have yet to see a active Alcoholic taper off and then stop maybe a heavy Drinker can , I would suggest go to Detox for a week and they will have all the medicine and help there but to be honest no point going if you just drink again when you come out . A Doctor has to know a little bit about a 1000s of ailments so no point blaming the Doctor , There is plenty of help out there if you search for it . Also very important that you keep connected with other Alcoholics we can not do this on our own
Thanks Steven for today's powerful message. I remember wanting to quit drinking soooo bad that before I went to sleep Saturday night after a major weekend bender, i wrote "Do Not Drink" on about 8 pieces of notebook paper, and taped the papers on my TV, fridge, mirrors, computer, just everywhere i would be on Sunday morning. Guess what, it didn't help one bit. I got up early Sunday morning and really started drinking hard, and tore off all the papers and tossed them out. Of course i was very sick and hungover at work on Monday morning. Living sober is the only way to live a life worthwhile, at least it is for me. Love your awesome channel mate. You look amazing ❤
Hi Steven, first of all your daughter is an absolute star...bless her. In my experience {with my husband} is you can taper off if you are with somebody 24/7, as in they go to work, you (I have control of money}, but it is so difficult or them, if it's your partner/ relative etc, you need so much patience and understanding but it will be worth it ❤
Well done Steve, if this helps , just keep saying to your self every chance you get I need STOP DRINKING every chance you get . Out loud if need be . Even if you start drinking again keep yelling that to yourself over weeks , months, years. .
I couldn't taper via per can or drink, I had a habit of drinking of whatever I had...so I would buy an 18 pack, then would buy a 10 pack and a 4 pack together, then a 10 pack down to two fours and a 4 pack eventually then stayed on that for a while till I took the jump if that helps anyone.
I can do it either. I did help somebody down by giving them one shot of liquor every hour and decreasing it over three days. It was a girl I was seeing at the time. We were both alcoholics. Terrible stuff.
Hi Steve, I couldn't cut down. It had to be all or nothing. Who goes out for 1 pint!!, alcoholics don't!!.. we damage ourselves so much but don't care at the time. Great video & I hope you're well 👍
Same with me, after that first drink that's it isn't it. Thing is, I was already on seizure meds when I gave up from 5 bottles daily to 0 next day so had some back up.
I recommend an app called Drink Control , you can record all your drinking. I’ve been doing it for 2 years now . It helps you stop lying to yourself when you can see a diary of all the booze in detail
You can taper off either cutting down the number of drinks or by reducing the strength of what you are drinking, cutting down from 6.5% to 4% but not reducing the number of drinks or alternating full strength & alcohol free or even mixing half & half
I was fortunate to stop immediately whilst i was on antidepressants so some of the anxiety was reduced. I still miss my beer, but the craving is slowly reducing.

I've never seen a heavy drinker who could get off the alcohol by "cutting down." See a doctor is imperative. They went to school for many years, so take advantage of that. You owe it to yourself.
Hi Steve. Im currently one week dry of alcohol. I feel quilty about turning my back on mates and pub friends who drink. I know its crazy to feel that, but have you done any videos about this? I dont want these feelings to lead me back to that lifestyle. Cheers mate
I've downloaded your app ,but I'm still drinking, that's not anyone's fault but mine, 9 beers today, and I feel very guilty ,I need to stop ,my health isn't good I need to stop ,
Will your insurance cover ten days in dry-out? If not, I found attending a couple of AA meetings a week to help me get and keep off alcohol. Antabuse works for some, but I got sick once after patting on (not drinking!) aftershave. Then I went and drank and got sick 24 hours after taking Antabuse. A change of environment (not job) also seemed to help the last time around.
Guilty, shame and fear are motivaters, horrible ones, but motivaters. I would think about going to AA. Drunks talking to drunks. They know what you're going through and they're going to help. Believe me. I've been sober for 20 years. 💪
Hi Steven my friend Lee from Newcastle's drinking is out of control., he was drinking some Dog brew (don't know what that even is) and he spilled one all over his Macbook destroying it and a month worth of work for a film set in a forest. He still keeps drinking. It's desperate.
