Steve , I've been watching your channel a while now but this is the first time I have felt co compelled to share. I'm now 64 and was a full blown alcoholic by the time I was 29. I got dry on the last Friday in October 1988. I have not used alcohol since then.... not one drop. My alcoholism lost me my job, house , wife, friends and nearly my life. I spent time in police cells, hospitals and court but your talk about seizures being frightening resounded with ne as I remember having one in a doctors surgery waiting room after another one of my vague attempts to quit, I blacked out and I remember the doctor being quite cross telling me I was frightening the other patients and children writhing about on the floor.... I remember nothing Steve. Eventually cirrhosis of the liver and being given a 50 50 chance of pulling through got me sober. Say strong man regards Mike

Hi Paul, I had the same symptoms in the first week I stopped drinking 18 months ago. I couldn’t sleep for 5 days as when I was nearly asleep my whole body jerked and I woke back up. I disagree, I took my husband to the doctors and he was so understanding, told us the basics i. e. don't stop suddenly, and put us in touch with an addiction clinic CGL really good organisation .
Wont get much help from the nhs nowadays I've been a few times really ill when stopped drinking suddenly and theyve told me to have a few cans because its dangerous dont give out diazipam or librium nowadays unless you're admitted to hospital best thing you can do is taper down your drinking slowly day by day over a few weeks until your not drinking at all
It's not just seizures you can have something very like dementia from withdrawals, that's why they prescribe thiamine & vitamin B complex tablets or those yellow IV bags in hospital & lactulose if you have liver disease, the lactulose helps flush the toxins out that the liver isn't doing if it is failing.
That’s known as Wernickes Ecephalopothy.. the brain relies on B1 ( thiamin ) to create energy. The brain actually can’t access energy without the thiamin present to convert glucose to power it.. Thus, the brain starves of its energy source and starts to practically die.
I am not sure but I think I may have spoken to you around this time in 2020 via the 24/7 zoom AA meetings ( I am Scottish and THINK we had a good chat but may have been someone else with a similar accent / voice) we swapped numbers .
Hi Steven, how do you know if you're alcohol dependent and will / ar risk of seizures if stop or you're not st risk jusy a heavy drinker and no risk of seizure if stop? Ive never had one when off booze up to a week but know i need to cut down / quit.
This comment is unhelpful. Not taking prescribed diazapam when withdrawing could end your life. A short course of diazapam is nothing to be concerned about, delirium tremens followed by excruciating death is. Take care.
When taken as prescribed diazepam is unlikely to lead to addiction, the reason why doctors are reluctant to prescribe it to alcoholics/addicts is because it’s often abused, alcohol and tranquillisers are a deadly combination.

@@marcus2336 Please talk with your doctor. Take care.
I think diazepam is more addictive than alcohol.
@@Hedgehogsinthemist123 It probably is …but it it’s properly subscribed i think it can be controlled 👍
@@PaulJohnson-jb1td I'm merely making an observation.
