It is a next gen pc game. They really do push the technology so you may want to upgrade your pc for this game. But it's got a lot of good stuff going on in it and the fans are responding awesome.
Those 17 inch crt could do 160 hz at 1280x800i with built in dlss and freme gen. Because our brain fill missing frame during blank interval play game on 60hz is perfectly fine as well. If you still have those around give it a try it may stay on your desk forever. If you play game with 720p or below or 60hz game crt is still best choice.
Warcraft 1 was my first jump into the franchise back in the day and I probably wouldn't have realized the smushed pixels... ignorance is bliss? NO! I'd like to see these tall pixels now too.
Noice, it makes even more sense when you show the image being squashed/stretched with the settings! You just had that CRT monitor lying around in case this ever happened, right? MWTA! 🤪👍🏻
@@Tirux agreed - I had a really nice 17" CRT back in the day. My dad recycled it at some point in the 2010s not knowing that I may want to use it again. Ah well.
@@mickcraftgaming I didnt like the remastered intro because it doesnt look remastered, i wish they had jsut made new animatics with the old sound effects. What did you think of the new re-recorded in-game music?
Game looks gorgeous on a CRT. I wasn't really impressed with the new graphics but damn I wish I had an old monitor to use. Shame they're so heavy and cumbersome, nowhere to even put one. Maybe Blizzard should give us like some sort of CRT filter too.
Most lcd moniter have forced 4:3 aspect ratio oftion or you could set screen resolution to 4:3 if in game borderless windows are completely ignore screen aspect ratio. So it does not need crt to do these unless we want to play original version in way it suppose to look. But generally it should have correct aspect ratio before make new sprite in the first place if blizzard staff now did not know how it suppose to look oh my god...
Appreciate the comment! Fair enough. One of the problems for me is just the fact that Blizzard seemingly didn't know or didn't care about how the game was originally intended to be displayed. I could see how it wouldn't feel like that big of an issue though if you had never known any different.
Out of curiosity, what was the CRT display you showed in the video? Also, forgive me for asking this, can you still buy CRT display today to play older games that exist on steam?
It is a Dell M991 manufactured in September of 2000. As far as I am aware, you can still buy new condition CRT monitors from China. They were manufactured some time ago though and were just sitting in a warehouse. I do not know the quality of them. Sadly, as far as I'm aware, no one is currently manufacturing CRT monitors and they are unlikely to make an affordable comeback anytime soon.
Blizzard can invest a bit more money to fully modernize wc1 and 2 adding in the tall pixels to get the game how it originally looked and make more changes to the gameplay you could end up with wc1 and 2 in a decent state for newer RTS players to play and people who want to experience how warcraft started without having to put up with the 1994 balance or road building crap
Agreed! I was still gaming on a nice 17" CRT monitor into the late 2000s. This was my first time using one in a long time and it reminded me why I held on for so long.
Hello. i cant run this game. I have bought warcraft remastered on blizzard but it doesnt work. Nothing happended. I dont understand why. please help me. thanks
so wait you are asking all these textures and sprites to be redrawn again to be "tall" Basically blizzard has to re-remaster Warcraft 1 because right now you are just stretching the textures, if this was to be done correctly they should've made them tall in the first place. Fat chance... nah dude this ain't happening. be happy that we got this remaster anyhow.
No, I'm asking that they make the game engine itself stretch the artwork 20% taller. If you watch my other video on the topic I include a bit about how the Good Old Games release of the original already does this.
@Marduk401 i think with these kinds of textures the deformation won't be bad actually. I have forced the game into tall on my CRT and now also my flat panel monitor and it looks good!
thank you for doing the background research they blizzard should have done... i think it's a bad remaster and we should put our effort into War1gus and make the best warcraft 1 game play based on old graphics... i was all for the remaster, but the new cartoon graphics just really lose a lot of soul and imagination.
Cool to see it on an actual CRT!
Yeah! CRT monitors are great!
Pretty cool stuff.
Is it me or do you sound like a 90s journalist/documentary narrator? You have a really good TV voice x)
Thank you! Haha, I've heard things of that nature before!
Maybe Blizzard wants us to buy CRTs again :P
Ha! Perhaps 😂
I draw the lines at phones. CRT is pushing it !

A toggle would be fantastic, yeah. Here's to hoping they do it.
Hey! Commander Keen cameo!
Absolutely!
And yeah! I need to get around to playing that sometime.
Thanks for the practical demonstration and for links provided!

The CRT was awaiting its prime moment 😎
I forgot how CRT monitors was cool. I miss old days :)
Me too honestly! This was my first time using one in a LONG time. They are fantastic for gaming! Just clunky and heavy...
Even better the flat screen ones. Still 4:3, but we didn't need to rely on OLED screens for awesome horror gaming experience.

I started playing the remaster as well, I’m legitimately loving it
Good bye animations
Glad you are enjoying it! If you don't have a CRT, I'm uploading a GPU based fixed soon for the tall pixels!
It's a shame they didn't include the animated intros!
@@mickcraftgaming oh id love that~ though the squishpixels work really well with my OBS setup/overlay so im not sure what to do, Mick!!!

Yeah I'm surprised there isn't one built in. The Good Old Games release of Warcraft 1 has built in graphical options for CRT filters.
amazing video! i never about this
Thank you! I'm just trying to spread the word and hopefully we can get some kind of official patch.
What a gem of a game

Yeah! If you take a look at my next video I actually go into how that can help. Pretty sad that it seems they did not know. Thanks for your comment!
We save us, Tall Pixel Guy! ❤
The community grouped together for the tall pixels and we made it happen!
I got tall pixel on my 1080p LCD by creating a custom 1440x540 resolution in the nvidia panel
Right on! You stole what my next video was going to be right there haha - Warcraft forever!

One weird thing is that in the Wc1 manual, the portraits don't appear as squares
Yeah, all of the screenshots on the original box are 16x10 images too. I think they just didn't bother stretching print media for the game.
yeah, of course, the printer cannot account for tall pixels, they just print them as they come, it's not weird at all if you think about it
Great video. I hope Blizzard will listen. It could be easily fixed.
Thank you! I hope so too. Such an easy fix!
Cool but I only remember it playing squished units so Remastered is fine for me.

Sadly probably true
