  • 2015 Ford F150 platinum with a eco-boost. My center consul made a loud popping sound and then I figured one of my springs and broke. The lid got quite a bit heavier and can snap down and catch your finger cell phone cord or something else so I figured I’d make this video.

Awesome video! Thanks for showing us all the clip locations. Will need to check mine soon. If I open it all the way to vertical and let it go, it falls back down on its own. Annoying for sure. Thanks again.

Very helpful. Going to go tackle it now. 2018 Expedition. It has taken 2 months to get this hinge as all of them came in rusty, including the springs. Just blows my mind, as well as the Ford dealer who tried to source a non-rusty one. What to do they do with these? Stamp them in Mexico and leave them outside for a couple months? Come on Ford! Again, greatly appreciate the vid!

Thank you, this video was greatly appreciated.
I had no idea how to remove the plastic parts without braking anything.
I bought a new rusty hinge direct from Ford for a $108.00. Parts man told me they sell them often and they are always rusty. I took the time to clean the rust and paint it.
    Installed in about 30 minutes.
Would not have tried without your video, thanks again.

Thank you. Got my part earlier this week for about $80, and installed today. I had forgotten how smooth at center console works with a good spring. This is certainly something that Ford should have covered since it is a common problem and it is due to faultly spring assembly that they installed. This video was greatly appreciated.

Michael. Many, many thanks for posting this video. I finally got around to replacing mine over the weekend. I actually purchased the replacement months ago, after initially watching your video. Needless to say, once I got into it, your video was playing on my phone. Everything worked like a charm. Now, instead of the lid slamming down (when I forget to grab it), it now flys open. Basically, need to retrain myself to grab it in the other direction. And yes, mine was ugly bare steel, with some light surface rust, as well. Cannot believe, understand Ford sometimes.... Thanks again!!!

The ability for the lid to stay open isn't a big deal for me, but my lid 'squeaks' every time I hit any kind of bump, so I want to just tighten things, to rid myself of the squeak, without spending a lot, as I honestly don't go into my console very often, but hate the constant squeaking while driving down the road. Spring on the passenger side is loose (broken perhaps) so I'm hoping I can somehow tighten things up, just to have the lid more solid.

Looks really good Mike, thanks for posting this. I’ll start the project after I order the part. Where did you order and part number? I’ll hit the google machine to confirm fitment for my 2018 Lariat spring replacement. Thanks, gOOSE

I ordered seat doctor leather and vinyl dye with crack filler. Hoping it works on the console lid and seats.

Where did you order the parts from? My springs been broke for about 2 years and this is the first video I’ve found about it. I’ve been too lazy to go to the dealership and don’t wanna spend dealership prices.

Cheap springs holding up a heavy lid. These are $70ish now and still too much.
