Hi Trevor I love the decoration on the Alula. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Could you possibly share a few good photos showing the detail of the paintjob....PLEASE?
@@trevorwright6058 hi Trev, thanks for reply. Search John Gary Wilson from Highfields/Toowoomba. I would love to pick your brain as you seem to have some AMAZING places to fly. My nearest slope is 80k's away and only works on an Easterly. Decided to find spots as we travel around. I have bought an Alula, Weasel Trek and an Apollo. All I need is a decent and easy to get to flying spot !! If you can give me the link for the Alula decoration that would be fantastic. Cheers John
Great flying, real seat of the pants stuff. I was flying my glider from the car park below the Vlaming Head Lighthhouse up at Exmouth one afternoon when a Sea Eagle took an interest in my model and quickly set itself up to dive in for the kill. From my experience flying thermal gliders I have found magpies cannot loop so when the eagle dived in I put the nose down and when it got really close I pulled a loop which made it overshoot the attack but it was soon on my tail again. This time without the airspeed for a loop I stalled it and spun down to the car park for a hasty landing. The eagle hung around for awhile before sliding off along the ridge into the setting sun.
Excellent video. I especially liked the machine gun fire and the air raid sirens. I've seen raven here in Arizona attack gliders in our parks. Very good fliers and very territorial. I had some good laughs watching your video. Thanks a lot!
Very nice flight Trevor. Those black and white bandits make flying "interesting". First time I've seen bits coming off a sloper under attack though. Great fun to watch.
Ha ha, so great to capture this on film - it's like they're thinking - okay, up close and personal, this is not a living thing but, whatever you are, you're going down!!!! SO territorial. Great flying to stay in the air with 3 or 4 of these air-masters gunning for you!!! Great to watch! Thanks for posting! Johnny :-) :-) :-)
Stellar flying. Out maneuvering a living creature that's designed to hunt in the air with a glider is pretty impressive. I know the glider has a bit of an advantage as far as density vs active surface goes, and there's the matter of the third person view, but still, with a glider, bravo. I think the answer is to make it bigger and scarier looking. Maybe so it looks like a predator of theirs, if they have any.
The magpies are pretty much is the wolves of the sky around these parts. They will take on whatever sneaks into their patch. I have an eagle look a like glider that has a 1500mm wing span - Guaranteed that they will peck the crap out of it. (Can't wait)
It all looked so graceful in the beginning. Then all of a sudden. Lol. But it was still well cool. I need to see some more of this kind of stuff. I've subscribed. 👍
Excellent Dave. Not too big a leap to get out there and into slope soaring. Give it a go. Usually a session of slope soaring is my therapy - not on this day. lol

Fun video. Great job on the flying and music and videotaping. Gives another meaning to "dog fight" for sure. Your slope soarer needs a nice, operational beak to fight back with. LOL Looks like the boys didn't take kindly to the intruder with fancy paint job.
Outstanding video! I've never wanted a glider before, but I sure as heck do now! That was more entertaining than the swallows that chase my e-foam board planes :)
That’s some really impressive flying skills to out manoeuvre magpies . These birds are the nasties of the skies and attack with ferocity to any territory invader .
Usually maggies only protect their territory in breeding season, but I suppose they perceived a threat with the glider, and decided to attack the unknown intruder. One tactic I'd have used would be to dive straight for the ground, pull up at the last second, and hopefully the maggies would all strike the ground before they realized their mistake. Painful for the birds, but a valuble lesson as well. Magpies aren't as bad as ravens. Ravens have a bully attitude and will terrorize any other bird in their territory, but unfortunately they perceive the whole sky as their territory.

Thanks Ben - I have just started looking into Gull shaped slopers myself. Something magic about the bird look. Is the RC buzzard plane you have finished a scratch build? Can you kindly fwd a link - sounds interesting
I'm an RC'r.... OK next move, build and install a mini 9v battery/capacitor circuit setup ie .1000v @ micro amps blast potential - do the math. Rig up with wing tips and tail tips - 4" long bare microwire emitters. Stay at altitude and fly with some speed while slow rocking your wings to draw them in. Pow! Snap! Knack! on their little beaks or feet. It would be interesting and fun to play around with that set up to see if a little operant conditioning would be effective. Much like the Battle of Britian, you may just get what's left of the Luftwaffe to turn tail and run ending Operation Sea Wolf, or in your case Operation Chimney Stack; and thus winning and securing your home field back! And make sure you film it too!
