In Austria where Panenka played from 1981 on, he became a legend, mainly for his freekicks

I am Slovak and I am proud to say that in this biggest success of CzechoSlovakian football history there were 8 Slovaks and three Czechs in the main squat. The reason why the majority of players were Slovaks was because at that time Slovakian teams were dominating CzechoSlovakian league. I am happy that there is finally some English documentary about football where the moderator never said Czechs only. This is the huge mistake that any foreign moderator makes that he calls CzechoSlovakian team Czechs only which is so incorrect from both state perspective and players perspective at that time.

Some of this team participated also in Euro 1980 (where they finished 3rd) and some also at the Olympics 80 (where they won)

You are right: 80 % of the team were Slovaks.

For me this was the best tournament ever in the era of total football. Each game seemed to get better and better. There were no weak teams and no toiling England devoid of technical skills, tactical sophistication and technical ability. I cannot understand why it took the FA so long to sort things out. People forget that we had Dinosaur Allardyce before Southgate.

I watched a lot of these Euro76 matches. It made me realise how far English football had fallen behind that of other countries. We've caught up since then but have still never been Euro champs.

@@paulharper3235 Czech republic didn't exist in 1975 so England couldn't beat any Czechs in that group. In the most successful team of CzechoSlovakian football from 1976 there were 80 percent of players Slovakian guys because Slovakian teams were dominating the whole league at that time. That's why please, work on your knowledge if you want to write comments here.

@@gojakla12 I mentioned Czechs a shortcut for Czechoslovakia as we all did then in the UK before the split. Don't be so touchy man.
