    Wow here in France we don't have that color for the cabin, we only have a dark color everywhere, making the interior very ... dark. And you have a sunroof !! Option that doesn't exist here neither !!

    had a test drive of an excite hybrid today, and for the most part, your review is spot on, Matt. There are a few oddities I encountered. First, the fuel economy when starting is quite high, the computer shows 18.9l/100 which over a 28 minute suburban loop of 13kms dropped down to 6.5l/100. Not sure if this was your observation as well.
    Second, I found the legroom in the back quite terrible with not much space for your feet as there was a weird hump just below the driver's seat. Must have been the amplifier for the sound system?.
    Lastly, the performance even at suburban speeds was inconsistent...meaning 0-60kmph of traffic lights could be really brisk if the battery was fully charged, and could tend to lethargic if the battery was depleted.
    On the plus side, if the battery is fully charged and with a light foot, the car will drive in EV mode up to 58kmph. It was also impressively refined but the petrol engine when it was buzzing was noisy enough to bother me.
    It is streets ahead of the car I want to replace...my honda jazz, but the jazz absolutely wallops it in terms of rear seat space. I think I am going to have to hold on to the jazz despite it being a much poorer car than the MG3 in general (other than the space of course).
    MG have well and truly arrived. this new car is definitely superbly put together and well engineered. People have to drive it and form their impressions rather than assume automatically that Toyota Yaris >>> MG3
    btw, John Law from carsguide seems to have had a much worse experience in the car as compared to you. Perhaps the calibration of these demo cars is not the same across the board?

    • @therightcar
      @therightcar  3 месяца назад +1

      Thanks mate.
      Good findings. And thanks for sharing them!
      And I’ll say this about John Law (he and I are mates), he came from Wheels. If you drive a hybrid city car like a journo from Wheels, you might end up with alarming findings. This is not a hot hatch and shouldn’t be considered one.
      I drove it how I expect the VAST MAJORITY of people will.
      But having said that, other journos have had issues with the hybrid system - but all of them are heavy-footed.

    • @sidjyothi
      @sidjyothi 3 месяца назад

      @therightcar Thanks Matt. I thought of a couple of other points as well. In the excite grade, I found the front seats to be really comfy, but the rear seat was oddly not so comfy. The PU steering wheel in the non-essence models is fine, there is some sort of micro-grooves or something that makes it quite grippy to hold, and finally, the ELK didnt bother me much, i found it's nudges made me focus on staying centered in the lane :)
      Oh and lastly, today was a rainy day, and I did notice that the wipers squeaked a lot when operating at the 2 setting. Got annoying after a while.
      also, what car seat are you using for your daughter? it seems to be less reclined, thereby giving her more space to swing her legs behind the front passenger seat - probably is a better car seat for compact cars than a maxi cosi

    This would be my pick for a city car with even coastal highway jaunts, but for outback cruising I have my 4x4 twin cab with steel bull bar and 9 inch spot lights for safety. Just thought I would throw the preference of vehicle for different enviroments. But for the price, warranty and power of this MG I like it.

    I am curious to know if the A/C is turn on or not? After doing some research, I found that the A/C system in this vehicle cannot be powered solely by the battery. Consequently, when the A/C is turned on, the engine will not shut off, even when the car is idling. This means that during the summer months, the fuel consumption is likely to be significantly higher compared to the winter season.

    Great test as usual, Matt. I get the feeling that the first facelift of this will be so much better - they'll probably tidy up the front, fine tune the safety systems a bit and fix that rear seat back that you didn't mention. That latter aspect I found interesting - most overseas testers commented on the clunky single-piece rear seat back folding into an uneven floor, and also leaving a gap for stuff to fall into. I can see we get the same one-piecer - did you find it a hassle?

    In WA, the hybrid is over $4k more expensive than the petrol model. The hybrid has a combined fuel consumption of 4.3ltrs / 100kms, whereas the petrol is 6. If petrol is $1.80 / litre, then you'd have to travel more than 130,000 kms to recoup the $4k. I think for these small cars, it would be better to test drive and report on the more base model, ie, the petrol.
