The Southeast Asian version (XP150) is much much cooler than the one we got in Europe. Hell, even the US Yaris which isn't even a Toyota but a rebadged Mazda 2 looks better than the XP210
they sort of are doing this. They are working on a smaller low cost EV hatch and it's set to release next year but it will probably be called "MG2" since it won't use the same platform.
@@marcogentile3392 ah got you so it is interesting they saw this gap for the MG3 in this space. wonder what the MG2 will con in for, in the UK 18K sterling would be the target I think
One of "only one in its class" you forgot to mention that is ismart connectivity. Remotely turn on the ac in hot summer or cold winter before u get into the car, this make it extra special.
Odley enough I was behind one of these hybrids this afternoon and I thought it's "bum" looked shit and when we had 400m to slow down to a red light the MG braked it's arse off but no brake light. When I checked the number plate it had a little EV badge on it which then reminded me of my old fully electric MG which used to give me whiplash every time I took my foot off the excelater. Anyhoo great review.
Exactly on the motorway doing 80 and want to overtake you have no idea how much performance you get when put foot down. This car needs to be reviewed on a busy motorway not open country
I drove it back to back with the new Suzuki Swift. It's very fast, but in every other aspect (fuel economy, cabin noise, handling, driving position etc) the Swift absolutely blows it out of the water. Strangely, the current ZS is a much better all rounder than the new 3, despite being pretty old now.
The new swift isn’t a proper hybrid like a Prius or this MG3 Hybird. “The Swift’s Smart Hybrid system uses an electric motor called an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). Working alongside Swift’s petrol engine to help improve fuel efficiency, the ISG is powered by an extra 10 Ah lithium-ion battery that is charged as the car decelerates and brakes. While cruising the battery helps power all of the additional electrical systems like safety features, air conditioning, Bluetooth and smartphone connectivity.”
Engine is the same 4 cylinder 1.5L Opel engine supplied by GM as the previous model. This is a later derivation of the 1.8L timing belt (Family 1) engine in the Astra and Cruze called SGE. GM no longer uses the engine in the US, they use newer belt-in-oil engines made in Korea. I don't know where you got the 1.4L from. The 3 speed is indeed a slushbox, you need a gearbox so the engine can match the speed of the output shaft being driven by the motor. Its only full EVs that can use a fixed gear.
it is a totally different experience, going over the fact that people have their opinion about whether ev is actually ecological, but talking exclusively about the user experience, there is a huge difference between putting in petrol, and try to maximize the use of it (you can get really far with not so much fuel, you feel like you are producing your own energy and really not polluting all that much), and having to charge a big battery at a station (which you can guess, takes more than 3 / 5 min, which is the time you make when you go to a petrol station)
@@fasttracklap8480 People who buy an Ora will not charge at a chaging station - they will spend 3 to 5 seconds refuelling by plugging their car in overnight. The debate about whether EVs are better for the environment has been had and settled long ago - the break-even point in Australia charging 100% from the grid for a Tesla model 3 vs a Corolla hybrid is just under 30,000km anf then only if you exclude any recycling of the battery at the end.
Still lacking in design idea for all MG line up. The front is from Toyota Yaris South East Asia version. The rear is from Honda City South East Asia version. 2 top selling car in Thailand.
An ex work colleague of mine used to commute 100 miles to work (each way) to work every day 90% dual carriageway and motorway. Even with long range MG3 and 72Khr he would not get to work and back on a full normal charge. If you deduct 15% for WLTP exaggeration and remove 30% of the wigglyamps due to the 80/10 rule he has 163 miles. It could be even less as there is bugger all regeneration to be had and its 70 mph driving. This is why EVs cant replace a family car. A larger heavier LFP battery would be a possible solution but it would still be tight.
Nah, it needs at least one more generation to solve the hybrid + engine combo. It's fun car but it's not in Yaris' levels in terms of economy. And of course nowhere near Yaris' safety.
Well my 2016 Golf 1.4 turbo does same consumption.....5.4 and it's 8 years old and bigger than that. Why have these companies waiting for so long to achieve that figure. Now imagine that with a 1.2 turbo Polo engine and hybrid.....that would be a great fuel efficiency probably down to 4ltrs
I call this the MG3+ given that MG themselves call it the MG3 Hybrid Plus. (The UK doesn't get anything other than the hybrid version of the new MG3). And did you really say "You're going to fist me"? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yet another underdone Chinese nugget, and it's not even cheap anymore. A car that doesn't respond the same every time you floor the throttle is downright dangerous. Will have non-existent resale too - you'd be out of your mind to buy that instead of a Picanto or Yaris.
You never get that power anyway in either the slow-a*s picanto or the underpowered Yaris hybrid. The new mg3 hybrid as you can see has pretty damn impressive handling characteristics (definitely not VW GTI level but already competitive enough for this price segment). The actual MODERN dashboard and centre screen beats the crap out of all the other brands and there are just so many practical things that you can customise according to your own preferences on these screens (like steering, regen braking level, driving modes such as eco, hev and sport etc…), tell me which other brand offers this updated modern functionality😂, the only others I can think of are probably GWM and the other Chinese brands such as BYD and Chery. So if you combine all these factors together, mg3 hybrid will not lose to any of the competitors on the market. Last thing is about the resale value, it’s has a damn hybrid powertrain, it won’t depreciate anyway near what you were thinking.
This is one of the ugliest cars I've ever seen. And yet Matt and daddy Jacob think it's good looking. I only can say one thing to you both: "Should have gone to Specsavers". 🤓 🤓 And three speed auto? Good grief, that reminds me of all the cars my late father bought in the 70's and early 80's. I'm surprised there's no cassette player in there. 😅
The battery in the electric motor is too small so it only provides power for short times.. being very inconsistent.. when the battery is down it’s petrol only
No it’s not, while the battery has been depleted, the petrol engine will kick in as a power generator. Depends on which mode you choose to drive from (there are 3 modes), it just only vary a little tbh.
My thought it's smart to put bigger battery so car can have electric power on motorway 30% of the time, the other 70% no power - so they claim to be the fastest but most jagged and unsafe way to deliver power
I think this fills a gap nicely for those that want decent price (in today's market), fuel efficient and a bit of power. What else is out there that can offer the same right now? Also 7 year warranty

If you like manual transmission and low consumption, go for swift. If you need automatic, then go for MG.
This thing smashes the Suzuki in performance and comfort and boot space. The swift is a dud
In my country the fully loaded mg3 costs 12500$ and it starts from 10500$ yet i thought it's a bit overpriced

0-100 in 7.2 seconds if you can't be bothered watching - hot hatch 1999 style maybe.
My petrol hatch has less power and torque on paper, yet I do 0-100 in 5.5, this thing must have a crazy power band on a dyno
