This is one of those quintessential 1980s songs. Excellent job, LLB! I feel transported back to the 1980s!
If I got transported back to the 80's, I think I'm going to stay there.
This is certainly better than a whole Saturday spent in detention!
Ha ha for sure
With a young Molly Ringwald!!
….Or two months (I got you) !
"Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us - in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a 🧠, 👟, 🧺, 👸, and a 🤬"
Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe? - Bender
Almost 40 years and still an iconic song. The band was excellent, as usual, but the vocals were spot on.
Yep everything in this is spot on👍👍👍👍😊
This song was featured in The Breakfast Club and Picture Perfect. Great song.
Sorry it was Pitch Perfect
❤reminds me of a better time in our country. Glad I grew up when I did. Y’all are great. 😊
OUTSTANDING JOB !!!!!!!! SOUNDED JUST LIKE SIMPLE MINDS !!!!!
Could watch Ryan McQuerry playing drums all day. Such a capable. relaxed drummer!!!!! And I'm a guitarist....lol!!!! Please give us much more footage of him.......
I agree 100%
I get that too. He's so smooth and relaxed you think he's going miss a hit but never does. Dude's a natural born drummer.
I agree 100%. He plays so effortlessly like he isn’t even trying. He is always in the pocket.
Don't you forget about ....... real MUSIC.... very nice, well done..... !!!
Captures the spectacular vocals & instrumentation of the original. Classic. Thanks LLB.
Another PERFECT performance from the Lexington Lab Band.
tão boa quanto a original
Never did I think that this would be covered by anyone. It's Jim Kerr ffs !! But this has blown my head , is there nothing these guys don't hit out the park ?? Awesome job
I swear, Steve can take ANY lyric, wrap his voice around it and make it his. MAGNIFICENT job by all.
How many of us watched The Breakfast Club highlights in our heads and thought of a happier time listening to this?
Beautiful as always.
Well said indeed.
Time and again Lexington Lab Band delivers… wow, such a joy to listen ❤!!!
AWSOME BAND! THANKS FOR DOING THIS AND SHARING IT FOR FREE!
Don't you forget about this cover! GREAT JOB!!! Wow!
You guys are my heroes. This song came out in about 1984. I graduated in 1982, so it was still within my high school experience so to speak. This song, and Breakfast Club were my themes guys. Wow man! I was in the marching band and the jazz band, and we played some cool stuff. Music is so much of my high school memory repertoire. And you guys doing this song. Just want to say thanks for sending me back to 1982 for a few minutes. Funny, a friend of mine sent me a photo of us unloading the band truck during our trip to Massachusetts in 1980, and that was before you posted this video. As the man said, Play on!!
What a great way to end the day, with a new LLB cover. Excellent!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Jim Kerr's voice is instantly recognizable and this LLB cover is closer than I've heard it. Great cover!
Vocals were so close to Jim Kerr, awesome job LLB!
Thanks guys the eighties had the best music. And in 2024 so does the Lexington lab band😊
80’s never to be replicated
Some great music in the 60s, 70s and 90s too even a few gems in the 00s but starts to get thin on the ground this century. Of course for most people the decade when they were growing up had the "best" music. There was a little band between when I was 9 and 15 that made some okay music. What was their name again. Oh yeah, the Beatles.
70ies had the best music and artists/bands: LED ZEPPELIN, QUEEN, ABBA, THE SWEET, AC/DC, SMOKIE, STATUS QUO...but as michaelginever732 said...
@@drummerman1964 for sure love all 70’s rock plus the Disco era. I was born in 64 so 70’s 80’s was my growing up days
Actually the seventies had the best music. Take a look at the Lexington Lab Band's version of The Allman Brothers' 'Jessica.' It knocks the spots of the above video.
Alrighty then from my favorite brat pack movie. We'll done, especially the ringing synth chords and Ryan's drumming. So good. This would be a great opening number for the concert the day before Labor Day.
I remember this song, it's come with words that make sense , it's written very well, thank you Lexington lab band for playing this song , thumbs up.
I'm partial to drums....great job Ryan!
A song that became iconic because of its use in The Breakfast Club....The flick and the song are synonymous....
The two older gentlemen here were in their 20's when this song was released. They're covering the soundtrack of their lives
"older" ?? 😁 I was 18 when that came out (April 1985), so I am old enough to be their kid brother, I guess.
I’m so glad I grew up when I did. We had the best music. Great job guys for the trip down memory lane
I miss that world
Few songs capture the spirit of a generation while remaining timeless like this one, great job everyone 👏
This band just gets better with age.
Nailed it ❤
Bloody hell, that's perfect...
Always loved this song, there is something special about the hi-hat and the snare on this song.
Absolutely . . . Incredible Hi-hat flavor
As one that was in high school when this song came out let me tell you that this IS by far the absolute best sung, best played, best timed versions. If you close your eyes you only see the original artists playing!!!! Fuckin aye guys❤
that what I felt also. the vocals oh my word !!
Superb performance gents. Hats off to the vocalist.
Steve is our favorite TV guy, and I liked the way he spoke of having this music and videos to show his Grand Children! ( I think he said something like that anyway. Lol). He is wonderful in all the songs he does. I often think of Tom Leszega and when I reached out with my condolences the way his family said they found comfort in his time spent with the band because of the happiness it brought him. This is a good thing LLB does for many reasons, one being legacies left behind.
We miss Tom
EVERYTHING this band plays sounds awesome.
You guys nailed it, AGAIN!!! Amazing to see you come together and everyone hitting their parts perfectly like a fine-tuned engine. Bravo, LLB, BRAVO. 👏👏👏
Thats one great cover, best wishes from Australia.
So, So Good!! Great Singer. Spot on too, Yes!!! I think Jim would approve for sure!!
Omg.... Just another excellent example of a timeless piece of musical magic! Great job.... Lexington Lab Band! Simple Minds would smile at your awesome re-make....😊
Looks like the whole band was enjoying as much as all of listeners have! Great job everyone!
Best cover band ever!!
💯🎤
incredible, eh?
Great cover guys. But I still love how Mel Gaynor played hi-hats in the original with only one hand 😎
Love it, a number one song from my Yoooff, lol, a classic song from the early 90's, i am 62 now and getting old, i am looking forward to playing Smack My Bitch up in the Old Peoples home i end up in, lol.
We are the same age. Isn't it strange being the same age as old people?
62 is better then 72
Excellent cover!! Now I need to watch The Breakfast Club.
Lexington Lab Band - World Class!!
One of my all time fav tunes. Absolute stellar job Gentlemen! 😎🫡🤙
One of the best movies ever!
For your keyboardist- I’ve got a Yamaha MODX. What programs did you use? Authentic cover guys!
You guys should do “Alive and kicking” as well
No surprise...Lexington Lab Musicians blow it out of the water...😎🎸 many times it's a toss up which version of a song is better? Both...these guys keep true to every song they cover, they meet and exceed the spirit and energy of the great original song 👍👍
Gifted musicians who are having a blast...and we're happy to be along for the ride. Thank you!
I was lookin' through your vids and saw this song which I must admit at first glance I was skeptical. This song is a defining song of my Gen X high school days and I didn't think ya'll could pull it off. How wrong I was! Oh how I miss the 1980s! And by 1:30 into the song I was singin' aloud with ya'll.
This is REAL. Captured it. Packaged it. Delivered it. Exceptional. And let’s celebrate Ryan - a lot!!!
Love it !!! Great job LLB !
LLB you've done it again! First listen i was grabbed by the drums and vocals. Second listen the keys. Jim is so hard to get right in covers, like Freddy is hard to cover. So many try. So many fail. But you succeeded and then some. Thank you for the trip to my youth.
Drums are the binder that holds this song together. Well Done!!
I know this isn't a request venue but makes me hope for Alive and Kickin! In concert the la la las were so so crowd sing along. Sweet!
Moving to central Kentucky this summer. Can't wait to go to your concert and hear killer covers like this one! Once again....spot on!
I`M a simple 80s guy and this song still hits with me.. it was all over the radio, and TV, mainly MTV.
hit movie soundtrack and i love the HEY, HEY ,HEY. It really got the party hyped.. great job by LLB. TALENT IS GREAT. vocals and music never disappoints. SALUTE!
Drummer nails everything!
Another perfect job by the Lab Band. One of the premier cover bands in the world today.
It's that time again.
Brilliant!
Any era, any genre or style stymies you folks..you guys just kill it ..and thx for music from the 80's..such an eclectic time..
This just gets better each time I listen to it.
Excellent and amazing musical work. Congratulations to all LLB.
Simple Minds in concert this year....... you are really close ! Excellent, great, fantastic LLB ! ❤❤❤❤
Nice!!! So glad you guys covered this one!
How can I top any of the comm3nts that have been made about these wonderful musicians......I can't.....so thank you for the trip back to the 80's
Excellent job!!!! PLEASE DONT STOP DOING THIS FANTASTIC WORK!!! I’m living in Japan right now and you bring me back to the great music of USA.
This song is really all about the vocal and the synths, but everyone else has create the right atmosphere, and y'all did it. This is a really spectacular cover, although we always knew you'd pull it off. Kudos.
Wow! Awesome performance! Well done guys! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love it!!! I can always relay on you all to take me back in time!!! 😎✌️
I feel this one in my chest. Such an amazing job. You guys never disappoint but sometimes you exceed expectations. Thank you so much for posting this.
This is just an awesome song and you took it to the next level. Thank you
Woah! This is epic :) God bless you all people. And thank you!
Another amazing cover of a classic! Love it!
Nice to hear alternate versions of well known hits done well. Even the singer sounds just like Jim Kerr. All you guys are brilliant musicians always loved the drum fill at 3:42
I hit play on the video and was immediately transported to the '80's! I never really expected to hear you guys cover Simple Minds, but I'm sure glad you did!! That was superb!!!
Awesome!
Hey hey hey hey! Musical perfection. Every nuance that makes this Simple Minds hit memorable is right there... The synth voicing, the guitars, the drums are SLAMMING, and the lead vocal is AMAZING. Y'all have done it yet again. #bestcoverband
As someone said recently in some comments somewhere, "80's music always seems futuristic no matter how old it gets" or something to that effect. great cover
I have always felt this way about Blue Monday. It is like a song from the future but also retro at the same time. Future retro. Transcends all decades and genres.
What a great track . Expertly covered LLB! Please keep them comin’…
It’s remarkable how the mere sounds of this classic song can trigger a cascade of memories, and your masterful performance transported me to a time that I hold dear. Your rendition was like opening a treasure chest of joy and nostalgia of the moments that shaped my life in college in the mid-80s. Well done y'all, well done!!
Amazing Cover. Sounds like the Original.
Not a day goes by without me missing the time!
I am 63 now but hate today's contrivance and ruined pleasures.
Heyyy Mike and everyone at LLB!! Love this song!!’ Amazing work by everyone. Great camera work as usual. Love the atmospheric sound on the keyboard. Great drum fill by Ryan near the end!! 🎉🎶😃
Nice. A good movie and a great tune. Great job guys!
Just love this band. So good😊
Amazing work LLB! You regularly bring vivid elements of my teenage years (class of '85) to life.
Excellence! But, how can we expect any less? Thanks . . .
I saw Simple Minds in concert on January 13, 1986 in Eppelheim, West Germany. Why do I remember the date? Because my oldest daughter was born earllier that day in Heidelberg and I was a soldier. Went home after visiting hours were over in the hospital, and my neighbor convinced me to go to the concert, which was taking place about 4 blocks away. My daughter's mom still gets PO'd about it when it comes up. Great concert, and great job by LLB!
Holy cripes! Steve sounds just like Jim Kerr. The hair went up on the back of my neck listening to this. Another grand slam folks, well done.
Well, as usual, all the instruments are dialed in perfectly. And, as usual, Steve expresses the perfect emotion for the song. Y'all are World Class.
LLB Forever
Beautiful! Beautiful! Xcellent performance!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
That was awesome! Drum fill at the end had me smiling! Well done all!
❤ I’m so glad I found your channel. You are fantastic musicians.
Pure class. A great performance.
And now I'm 10 yrs old, walking on the hot concrete around the city pool listening to this blast from the lone loudspeaker in the corner - well done!
