If you ever park that van like that for a long time in snow again. Bring some heavy rough planks , and put them under each tire . Not inline with the tires but across so you have a supporting base and it won't sink. . Not just underneath but enough sticking out in front and back of each tire to get some traction when you leave. I learned the hard way even parking a vehicle for the winter in my yard a couple years ago. And yes, bring a portable tire pump or compressor with you like someone else suggested.
I fifth that comment🙋🏼♀️❤️ also I would love to add..I live in Montana and when all else fails and you have nothing else you can grab your car floor matt's out of your car and put them behind right up against your tires and usually it will always grip and get you out of a snowy icy spot 👌 just another trick to try for the future if needed❤️ but those were huge Rutt's the van had sunken and settled now into 😂😂 so I'm not sure about that.. holy moly 😂 great job 🙌🙌
Frozen bales are no joke 5:20 as a kid our local park put them at the bottom of a hill so kids could sled and not run into a chain link fence. Well, I crashed into one it’s my uncle and broke my ankle. I was a little kid and told my mom it was broken but I wasn’t crying or reacting so she let me rest at home. Next morning I woke up and said it’s still broken so we got X-rays, sure enough it was. I’m 37, my mom died when I was 19 but it was a story I never let her live down. I feel like my life went full circle when my son broke his arm at school and told me it felt broke, but I made him stay thru lunch period to see if it got better lol now he never lets me forget that I made him stay at school with a broken arm haha
“Such a weird emotional experience when you’re so ready to leave a place and so ready to experience new things but you don’t want to leave it behind just for the sake of not leaving it behind.” Wow. I feel this in my bones. Wishing you so much love while you integrate the past few months 🤍
I hope this doesn't come across as a lecture or anything like it because it's only a passing of experience. When I lived in Greenland and we had polar winters, we took out vehicles for a tiny drive every second day. Just to make sure that we could. I know it's nor ideal for stationary living but because so many vehicles got stuck and essentially became useless if we didn't. We even had electrical heating pads on the motors but in the extreme circumstances they were useful. So many frosty memories so for sure this adventure is going to be unforgettable.
Congrats on completing your journey! Glad to see the spruce bowles kept your water hole clean all winter. Can't wait to see what is next. You looked just like your mom in the last few clips.....so cool
I got tears in my eyes I swear this has been a journey for us all and so appreciate you guys for letting us in your life ❤️ be safe and look forward...
Thank you so much for this amazing series. I truly felt like I was reliving my experiences in the winter woods of Quebec many years ago. I hope you and Chris have landed in another beautiful spot. Love the bloopers!
What a journey! Thank all 4 of you for taking us along for the ride. It has gotten me through some dark days. Keep living your life. Keep sharing too.😊 This was such a beautiful experience. 3 months in the N Woods. Wow! Linnea, you are so beautiful, with mud on your face too.
Y’all have so much to be proud of and celebrate from all the planning, living in the N Woods all winter, and such awesome memories!!! Thank you and Chris for sharing this incredible experience with us!!!! It has been truly a blessing to watch y’all all the way through. I’d probably ball my eyes out as I left. Lol 😂 I just love watching you and Chris in your videos. God bless y’all with love hugs and prayers ❤️🤗🙏🏻
Thank you for taking us along in such a heartwarming, loving, mystical and really real adventure with you. Kudos to Dan for his service. In to the next!❤
Amazing journey! I remember watching your canning prep and apple slicing q&a videos wondering how the winter will be for you both. Thank you for sharing the experience with us!
Because you are leaving somewhat close to where I grew up. I know the excitement of something new in the future but also the feeling of separation 💔 can be difficult. As I said previously, I grew up in Land O Lakes,Wisconsin (almost a Yooper) when I left for the last time in my life (I can no longer travel), I felt/feel a deep sense of separation. I am moving into an Old Fogey's (assisted living) home in May. (I'm actually looking forward to it) I will die in Northern Colorado eventually and I will be happy and contented. I hope you will have many more adventures. I'm looking forward to being young in Paradise after I'm awakened after death. Which I am completely happy and contented about. I hope in that Paradise I will return to Land O Lakes/Eagle River and spend a Winter in the Northwoods and meet you both. " Happy Trails to you, until we meet again ❤ "
Hi there, I also enjoy their channel, content, view, etc. I have known the Northwoods too all my life. My father was born and raised there and spent his last ten years there. I Have cousins and sister who live in Eagle River where my dad is from. As a child this was our main vacation place to go visit family, lakes, picnics etc. Still get up there every few years. When we enter the town a warm feeling comes over us. LOVE THE NORTHWOODS TOO!!!!
That is why you always parked on boards when you're going to leave a vehicle set for More than a couple days in the soil is very soft and you don't want it to freeze to the ground. You do the same thing with heavy equipment. You run them up log on some logs.
Thanks for sharing your Northwoods Winter, so much better than the average van lifer sitting in the desert all winter. Good that you got out before the spring thaw, that would have made it much tougher to get out. Next time your tires get frozen down, pull out your jack, then put a chunk of wood under each of those tires that are down in a hole. Good luck on your next adventure. Bob
Linnea...thanks for taking us through what it sometimes takes...until it gets done! Yep - felt those emotions too -I've b one watching from the time you first thought about this winter off grid idea. Kinda sad at the end so the van getting stuck was just part of the reality. Like many here - I really enjoyed watching you Chris and the dogs throughout this winter. Thanks for taking us along. I really enjoyed Chris's long posts also.Good luck on what adventure comes next.
You made my day with this video! I just love you two! I am a new fan for life!! My name is Queen A.K.A.MISTY! I am a disabled female from New York but I live in Jersey for now! I could watch you both all day! I was very depressed until I came across both of you. You are a joy to watch! You are down to earth! And I love your Dog! I cheered when you got your van out! BTW, I LOVE YOUR VAN! BE BLESSED AND STAY SAFE! You have a fan for LIFE!!💖🥂
Oh I've been waiting for this.... Yeah!! And now the traveling out west begins! I can't wait to see where you two take us this spring/summer/fall and the campsites you share. Hurry up and get this show on the road!! Cheers!! ~M
I was getting emotional watching y’all leave the driveway! Do you think y’all will be back to this same spot this winter? I have to say these three months being a part of yours and Chris’ journey in the north woods has been an exciting time watching y’all. One of the more interesting RUclips events!! Thanks!!
This has been a great adventure that you let me join in, thank you! I’m so happy for you and proud of that you have learned in your young years! This is the time for adventures and travels, you will always be glad you did this!
Living in this unexpected, crazy world ..... this must give you Peace that you'll survive it! I learned SO much from your journey ..... it gives me Hope❤
Someone below mentioned a book, and that's how I feel. This is like the final chapter of a really good book and I'm really sad it ended. I'm literally crying that the adventure is done.
Awwwww Hunni,, you made me tear up at the end .... sharing your winter has made the winter go by more pleasant for me. It was a rough one in many ways - my house sat in the woods, trails out to a brook, and I could let Sorcha run, just clap and say come this way and she'd be right beside me, though HERE, : ( in town SUCKS. No trees for the wind to whistle through, no bird cries, no trails, NO FUN ... first time in 39 years I've not been happy doing winter, BUT, your videos eased the loss for me so THANK YOU for sharing . You two drive and be safe, and happy journeys, I'll still tag along. IF I don't comment during the coming season, means I'm out of data coz I'll be back HOME in my little CAMPER loving garden and woods life : ) I'll check in though my friend
I'm so happy to see you are on your way. I too am very emotional with your departure. Leaving a place that created and held so many great memories is always hard. Now to start the next chapter!! I wish you 4 all the best!! Thank you for the past 3 months you shared with us.❤
Seeing this video, I am remembering adventures we went on with my family when the kids were little. It was a similar experience but we were only 2 weeks. Thank you for sharing your life with me. Brightest Blessings.
We FT in our RV with our cats. They hate the sound of the diesel engine, but they calm down pretty quickly. When you had Chris' bus running on the video, they all jumped. Poor babies! They're very happy to stay put for a bit. Hahaha
“Allons-y!” So ends another chapter ! #1. I love how you laugh at the moments of high stress. There might be unfilmed tears, but your laughing at stress has become a trademark. #2. Your comments as you were pulling out made me think of Comfort Crisis. Comfort is so much more that physical accommodations. It’s a mentality. As challenging as the North Woods were , you developed routines, systems and habits. You created “comfort” amidst the challenges. So even in what most would consider uninhabitable living conditions, you and Chris became comfortable. It was interesting seeing/hearing you in that moment of leaving “comfort” for the next challenge. Incidentally, that’s exactly what “allons-y” means. “On to the next challenge!” Thanks for sharing the North Woods and inspiring me to go beyond my comfort zone. Allons-y!
This is what happens when you say we haven't really felt challenged...we have our routines...then life is like oh ok you want a challenge, try leaving!! 😂😂 Thanks for the adventure guys, great job, on to the next!!!
Such an awesome adventure 🙌🏻❤ And in life, the one thing we Can depend on is Change 😉 It seems odd but appropriate to work through the grieving process. There is a finality about you leaving Linnea and can relate to all you said/shared. Sending hugs 🤗
When the going gets tough Linnea, you and Chris get going, wow you really put such a lot into it yes it was so great to watch. You both make it look so interesting no your back on the roads ready for your next adventure so take care all of you👍💖
That was so worth the time! Glad I came back! First of all you pick great music! Your teamwork and hurdles was fun to watch, yeah for Dan too! It’s sad to see this ‘season’ end, especially since it’s in my favorite part of Wisconsin! Well done you two! Thanks for all the winter stories! I can see why you left, no more wood or coffee I’d be outta there too!
Loved the look on your face Linnea at one point trying to get the van out, Chris goes 1 2 3 and you got this determined look 🤨😬😂 like it would help! How ironic that it was the van you had trouble with and not the bus, never seen that coming! Kind of sad the Northwoods is over 😒 thanks for sharing 🥰
Haha the faces are supposed to help, right?! Yes, Chris and I were laughing at the same thing! All winter we were nervous about the bus, but in the end all of the trouble happened with the van… classic!
I couldn’t tell if you’d tried this, but living on a farm we have to be innovative, lol. Next time try “scotching” the tires that are spinning by placing a piece of piece of fire wood, branches, or anything the tires can gain a little traction on. I’ve done this many times (with zero help) and successfully become “unstuck”. Thanks for sharing your experience, I’m customizing a van now!
Wow what a project to get out. I am sad its over ! Watching you and this challenge was better than any book, or TV show all winter watching you in the Northwoods was the best. But honestly it was hard to swallow at the end. I literally started crying when you were getting choked up its over 😢 I do hope you go back again. Thank you for an amazing challenge and a amazing winter season Love and hugs from Pennsylvania Sincerly Melody
I really loved watching your time in the North Woods. It was truly peaceful, inspiring, and wonderfully simple. I hope perhaps you can do it next year too but if you don't it'll make this time all the more special
As I watched your traction (hay bales) go up in flames....I was saying NOOOOO. 🤣😅Hay makes great traction. Glad to see you were able to get out. Can't wait to see of your new adventures.
Of course, I got emotional at the very end. 😢 It has been a wonderful adventure to experience with you all. And time went by too fast, as it always does. Looking forward to the next adventure. The best part of the video for me was to see that sweet girl’s face in front of the camera in the van. Sending extra hugs!❤
Our North Woods adventure is OVER…..is was sweet and interesting! On to new adventures!!! Thanks for taking us along. Maybe I’ll run into you guys on the road….you never know
I’m one of your 33%! Love your videos! I’m completely jealous that you are enjoying such beautiful weather. I’m on the exact opposite spectrum- I’m in the cold, damp, blustery mid-Atlantic that is December in the United States. Tomorrow is Solstice though, so after that the light will begin to return and it’ll be Spring again in a moment. Time moves so swiftly. I hope to have my van to travel with beginning in the late Spring or early Summer. It’s time for me to see places in this country that I haven’t seen yet. I hope you & Abby have a Merry Christmas & a very happy and safe 2024! Enjoy your travels! Be blessed!
Wow, it has been a pleasure to watch, thank you for sharing your journey. I love your music selections it makes your videos just amazing and beautiful. ❤❤❤
That was exhausting and exhilarating and emotional. I can’t decide which I admire more - your adventuring skills or storytelling talents. Wishing you all the best always. ✌️❤️🚐
My son and his wife live on a narrow boat just them and a little dog called maybel people see a very relaxed and easy life quite the opposite you both work so hard to maintain your lives I wish you both positive energy and good luck love the video ❤️
I have enjoyed this series so much and I’m sad it’s over. This was one of my absolute favorite videos in the series for some reason. The dogs were highly entertaining.
Hi 👋 ❤ I would love the wood pecker as well. I had a big ole pecan tree in my front yard. For years and years in 2011 April 27 th tornado came got my pecan tree and an big oak tree. Plus bad damage to my home But I’m living thank God 🙏. I do miss the trees for the sound of wood pecker 🎉 in that moment of your video I so related to your feeling of sounds 😊 Many great memories your making ❤ till next time. Stay safe 🌻🙏❤️personally I’m ready for some warm weather 🙌🙌🙌🫶🏻
So sorry that you're feeling a very emotional about leaving a very special part of your life but more adventures to come? ✌️❤️ Wonderful to have experienced it rather than not...
Thank you for sharing this journey with us, you both did such an amazing job of showing how working together for a common goal can be filled with fun, adventure, ups and downs but also inspiring. Can't wait to see your next journey, glad you had a good man like Dan to help you out, that really shows there are still good people in the world that are willing to reach out to help others. As always sending vibes of Blessings and Love for you all (including the fur babies) for a safe trip to your storage unit for the bus and for your upcoming adventures. Until next time may you all dwell in Peace, Love and Harmony!

Watching this journey has been like a good book you never want it to end! Well done, Linnea Chris Akela and Kobuk🧡 I loved every minute of it!
I totally agree 💯
I totally agree too well done!!!
Yes I agree. I so look forward to watching your videos. Can't wait to see more.

Okay then, this is worse than watching a thriller! I was as nervous as Akela! And Dan, he is incredible; You Americans are the bravest!
Lesson I have always learned traveling in the woods. Is always have your vehicle facing the way out. Before you park.
I got tears in my eyes I swear this has been a journey for us all and so appreciate you guys for letting us in your life ❤️ be safe and look forward...

I've been so wrapped up in your adventure, that I feel the emotions. And I don't know what else to say other than thank you guys!
@Official_stauffergarage you got selected to eat sum 💩
Eeek! So much stress watching you getting the van out... Bless you! Remember what doesn't kill you makes you stronger 💪 🥰❣️
Amazing journey! I remember watching your canning prep and apple slicing q&a videos wondering how the winter will be for you both. Thank you for sharing the experience with us!
The sound of that woodpecker put the biggest smile on my face. I envy your life. How precious are those sounds? Thank you for sharing.

This was like a really good movie...and I didn't want it to end!!!! I absolutely love your videos and all the fun!!! I will miss this also💖
You made my day with this video!
Cheers!! ~M
You guys are the reason RUclips, even with its faults, is the best. Not a youtube promotion. I just find inspiration here, and not-so-much elsewhere.
I was getting emotional watching y’all leave the driveway! Do you think y’all will be back to this same spot this winter? I have to say these three months being a part of yours and Chris’ journey in the north woods has been an exciting time watching y’all. One of the more interesting RUclips events!! Thanks!!
Thank you both so much for allowing us to share in this adventure with you! I enjoyed it SO much! Cannot wait to see what is next!
Wow! Now I understand why we put boards under the wheels of our camper while it is in storage on a dirt surface. Glad you all got out ok!
This has been a great adventure that you let me join in, thank you! I’m so happy for you and proud of that you have learned in your young years! This is the time for adventures and travels, you will always be glad you did this!
‘Dan the man’ saved u guys, mammoth effort to get Van out hooray! Emotional time after mths being there, stay safe & warm!! 👍🇦🇺🍻😍

Ashes from your woodstove makes the best traction on slippery surfaces
I'm so happy to see you are on your way. I too am very emotional with your departure. Leaving a place that created and held so many great memories is always hard. Now to start the next chapter!! I wish you 4 all the best!! Thank you for the past 3 months you shared with us.❤
I still can’t believe it’s over! To us on the outside, seems like you just got there.
Sometimes we feel like this too!!
Seeing this video, I am remembering adventures we went on with my family when the kids were little. It was a similar experience but we were only 2 weeks. Thank you for sharing your life with me. Brightest Blessings.
You guys are 2 cool cats. And 2 cool dogs. This adventure has been fun to watch and informative. Wishing you all the best!
BTW- sorry to do this in a reply. Is the Honda Element AWD, and how does it handle in snow/ice/crappy weather?
Yes it is! The element seems to do very very well in many conditions. Thanks for your kindness! 💛
I have really enjoyed following along with you this winter. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us.

Thank you for this time. The three months, for me, flew by. I am going to miss the beauty and the snow. Safe travels.
So bitter sweat leaving the north woods, but exciting at the same time.cant wait to see your next adventure
Next winter I would park the van on plank boards so not stuck into the snow or mud.
Such an awesome adventure 🙌🏻❤
And in life, the one thing we Can depend on is Change 😉 It seems odd but appropriate to work through the grieving process. There is a finality about you leaving Linnea and can relate to all you said/shared.

Wow. I was sure emotional as you were driving out. Thanks so much for having us along on your journey. Happy travels.

Be blessed!
Congratulations to you two and a huge thank you to Mr Dan the man
