    Lemmy always announced at the start of their gigs: "We are Motörhead and we play rock'n roll!" edit: ruclips.net/video/hlITGY9M8AU/видео.html
    The problem with categorizations is that what we consider "metal" these days is very different from what was considered (heavy) metal at the time. For example, the AC/DC album "Back In Black" was considered a (heavy) metal album when it came out in 1980, but today it's pretty much classic hard rock.
    The term "heavy metal" is different from the modern usage of metal. Heavy metal is most often used when talking about the classic era, roughly from the end of the 60's up to late 80's.

    • @CorwinAlexander
      @CorwinAlexander 3 года назад +1

      "Heavy Metal" was called such based on the heavy metal of a motorcycle engine. It was popular among people living an alternative lifestyle that included freedom as represent by motorcycles. It was also representative of motorcycle gangs of the time so it was associated with crime as well.

    Wonderful reaction and yeah, Motörhead really are one of my all time favorites, it was part of the essential classics to get into way back when I was a little teenage metalhead, but even though my tastes these days are far broader, Motörhead much like Black Sabbath, will always be a band I'll be listening to. I didn't think I was more than a casual fan but when Lemmy died it really hit me hard, especially because I had had plenty opportunity to seen them live but never found myself the time and money. I mean, I was pretty sure Lemmy was immortal. His legacy is though.

    As for that fast drumming on Overkill, drummer Phil Taylor said he got fed up seeing bands with double bass/kick drums and not using them, so he got a set up like that in the studio to try it out, see if he could do it. He was practicing when Lemmy and Eddie Clarke arrived, they heard it outside and said whatever you're doing, keep doing it! Overkill came out of that. Legendary, for all the fast metal bands it kicked off (pun intended!). Mike P

    You are quickly becoming one of my favorite reactors. Your energy and enthusiasm are a real treat to see. It was particularly gratifying watching you discover Motorhead, a band that doesn't fit into any category, but is its own category by itself. You got it right away: instead of shying away from the velocity and noise, you jumped up and danced. Is it Metal? Is it Punk? Is it something else? Yes it is - it's Motorhead, and that's all you ever have to say.
    There's a reason you're confused by the bass on Motorhead songs. Most bassists will either follow the melody, play a counter-melody, or just play the root notes of the chords, but always an octave lower than the guitar. Not Lemmy. He's actually strumming the full chords, in the same octave as the guitar. The "what the hell is that?" sound is Lemmy's bass part. It's exactly like having two guitars playing the same part, except one of the guitars sounds like a Rickenbacker bass - because it is. There may not be as much low-frequency sound as you'd expect, but the sound in the frequencies where they do play is just crushingly intense.
    As for the drums . . . there is no reasonable explanation for Philthy Animal Taylor.
    Motorhead were the complete road-dogs: they toured constantly. I personally saw them open for Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest (on two different tours), Ozzy Osbourne, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. They never once failed to deliver onstage, and the headliners had to work their asses off to come up to Motorhead's level..
    Somebody who didn't lose their job when the 'Rona hit, please send this young lady a Motorhead T-shirt. She needs that iconic image to further her Metal identity. (Sorry, you can't have mine; I've had it since 1981, and it's still a cornerstone of MY Metal identity.)

There is not a single Motörhead album you can call bad. He was a mistermind. Wow, really enjoyed this. It seems you have a feel for groove and melodic harmonies that I mostly find in the UK music scene, and it really speaks to me too. Seeing you get lost in the groove and describe what you're grooving to - even if you just say "the drums!", I know you're feeling what I'm feeling (instead of focusing on lyrics or technicalities like many others do in their reactions). It brings the music alive, keep doing this.
    Btw what you said about the drums and the mix was really spot on and it's not a superficial observation. As you now know Lemmy's bass sounds almost like a rhythm guitar which frees up a lot of space in the low end for the drums in the mix, that's why even though the drums have a very busy pattern - they keep all the sound/volume dynamics and definition, so you can hear and feel almost every beat while retaining the comfortable, soft sound of the drums.
    And it becomes this wave that just lifts you up and carries you and you don't want it to ever stop.
    And like many others in this comment section, can't wait for you to discover your love for d-beat haha, even if it takes time

And we play Rock ’n’ Roll.” as a greeting.About the bass: you CAN hear the bass, but you would'nt recognice it, because, Lemmy played the bass like a (heavy metal-) guitar. Because Lemmy played the bass so unorthodox, the typical Motörhead sound is so unique. Just whatch concert videos here in RUclips! ;-)

    When Lemmy was with Hawkwind, he was the guitarist. When the bass player failed to show up for a gig, Lemmy grabbed the bass. He had no idea how to play bass guitar, so he just played it as a regular guitar, chords and all. He carried it over to Motorhead, giving the band that distinct sound. The song STAY CLEAN uses Lemmy on bass rather than Eddie on guitar for the instrumental portion after the second chorus.
    The double bass drum at the intro of Overkill was another sound pioneered by Motorhead. Phil ended up with two bass drums and started playing around with trying to use double kick bass drumming. Lemmy loved it. It is something adopted by many metal and punk bands after Motorhead did it.
