Hi David just checking out your os 55 ,i have two os 46s that that run good,im looking to buy this os55 in the future.i saw the video with the guy had the head off his and claimed it was making a noise lol, i think these os engines are better than that as your 55 sounds good and they run for many years. Thanks David
Hello Mr David.I have an OS 55AX-II engine that burnt only 7 liters fuel only. From beginning of break in to now I use Merlin %5 nitro and %18(castor+synthetic oil) fuel. Also I use APC 12x6 and OS No:8 glow plug with supported fuel tank with foam material.Nowadays I have very big trouble with this engine that quits on the air.HSN and LSN adjusted very well(not lean, at rich side). Each flight after take off 2 minutes engine stops(every flight same time stops).I checked LSN and HSN adjustments again and again.I replaced glow plug and brand new fuel(merlin %5 nitro) but I face same problem. Also, I checked fuel tank, fuel lines and tightness of engine screws as well.I disassembled engine and observed that engine in very good condition including compression.Since I purchased this engine I use same equipments. On the ground when I touch to the head of engine, I feel too hot even I can't touch it continously.I don't have an opportunity that measure temperature since don't havea thermometer.Throotle responses-transitions are good, HSN and LSN are slightly rich side.Fuel tank doesn't have air leake. What can be reason that I face this problem? Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.
Hi Tamer. To me it sounds like the sleeve has peeled the nickle plating. Sleeve peeling is an issue the OS FX series of ABN engines had and more engine could still suffer from that issue. Based on everything you mentioned, it seems like the most probable cause. Typical operation of an engine that has suffered that is dying once it gets hot. When you disassembled it did you notice an peeling on the sleeve? If the bearings and remainder of the internals look good the best solution is to replace the piston/sleeve.
First of all I would like to thank you for your response and help. When I disassembled engine did not notice any damage on internal parts including piston and sleeve. They were appearing in good condition. As you mentioned I didn't observe peeling on sleeve. Finally I gave my airplane with engine a person who experienced a lot.I don't know what is the reason behind this. Thanks a lot.
Wow Dave, you're wearing a sweatshirt! Jeeze it looks like it's gonna be a great runner. So steady on the rpm. Also congrats on breaking the 1000 subscriber milestone.
I have that engine and i have a 55ax need to break in and i was wondering if i can use my master airscrew s-2 12x5 for break in.Also how much throttle.
Is it really good to run it at such high rpm on its very first run? I was always told it was better to do a first tank of fuel at 1/4 power, then a second tank between mid and full power.
Well you were told wrong on how to break in an ABC engine then. it is always better to do a bit of reading and research than just listen to people that may or may not know what they are talking about. www.hooked-on-rc-airplanes.com/nitro-engine-break-in.html Numerous other sites too.
After many years in the R/C airplane hobby, I just recently bought an engine run-in bench. I was never really any good at being able to properly "tune" an engine and I'm hoping to change that. I believe your videos will help immensely. Is there a follow up to this video where you tune it for best performance, to include the Low End needle for Idle and transition?
Just look at the Instructional videos playlist. I have way too many videos to go find specific ones for you. I don't have the ear to listen to the different sounds of the engine... I got 4 OS engines and I don't really fly them because people at my flying field don't like to help...
@@sinuemedina2550 If you use a tachometer and observe the appearance of the exhaust, then you can adjust the engine without sound judgment. If you do exactly what the manual says, there are no problems. The OS engines are easy to operate.
Hi dear sir pleas tell.. Fuel castor oil?? I am flies wit asp 52 ENGINE apc 11,6..with my arf kaos 40... Very powerful!!! Fuel using 18 percent klotz..
There is no way I can answer that question. If the engine is tuned properly and in good condition then the RPM you see is correct. But I don't have RPM figures for all prop sizes. Personally that seems a bit slow for a 12x8 prop.
Really sweatshirt? We are having a heat wave in Cali. Tired of living in Communist California, I might moved to Florida and enjoy the humidity and water.
This engine looks like a real beast!!!!but then again it is OS oh yeah!!!
I love my 55ax it's fixing to go on my new tiger 3
I have one of these engines. Really smooth and lots of power.

That thing is a beast for the size! I bought one new myself! Love it 😊

It was cold for Florida standards the day I made this run. Thank you David
I'm looking forward to seeing more of this engine.
such a beautiful series
Eh.... The V series four strokes are more to my liking.

Oil 18% or 20% sintetic or blend sintetic- castor? Sorry for my questions
Omega fuel is synthetic/castor blend. What I do is not important, if you have this engine, simply follow what the instructions say to use.

David, based on your experience, what do you say about a "back plate" engine mount for the OS55 ? will the casting & bolts take the stress ?

What is Ideal Fuel for this Engine?
OS 46AX or 55AX for my Balsa USA NorthStar?

they say to run a couple tanks through. what size tank?
I was wondering i have the same engine on my tiger 3 with a 12×8 prop it's running about 10,000 rpm is about right?

Ok thank you mr.david for taking time to answer my question and i love your videos. Have a blessed day .
How low can you go on rpm?
Who many turns out on the high speed did you start with ?.
I do not remember but I usually start at 2 to 2.5 turns out. The manual should state what the initial setting should be for break-in.
Thank you.
Just got a new one the other day that is right 2 to 2.5 turns to start
David, Do you sell any of those engines ?? ie OS 61
I sell many of my engines. That is how I get different ones.
I'm in need of an OS 61 , thought this 4 stroke would fit? But it will stick out way to far . CG kit suggest up to a
.61 .
I no longer have an OS FS-61 engine. I have had several, but I managed to sell them.
What’s AX mean and ABC?
Aluminium brass chrome
Nice engine for 3D wannabe style flight. It's not a high RPM engine, it's right at home at 9,500-10,000
0.s number 6 hot plug for 5% nitro...
