Love your work mate, great stuff, when you got it on a lower idle that lumpy rotor sound was identical to the road cars. Rotary engine speed specifications are defined differently than on other motor types. On a typical rotary there are three combustion events for each revolution of the crankshaft. While there may be 30,000 combustion events per minute for this demo, the actual RPMs of the crankshaft will be one third of that... 10,000 RPMs.

I would have taken it apart after running it. I feel it was compromised from being taken apart as the head surface torque, gaskets, flywheel position, Apex seals and springs are very sensitive. Would be nice to see one that hasn't been tampered with run.
One thing everybody on RUclips is teaching me I can't leave any Stones unturned. So I did run it before taking it apart, or at least I tried, the only reason I took it apart is because it didn't have any compression and a Apex seal was stuck. Guarantee you I can make this engine run better than it comes from the factory. I have built hundreds of rotary engines including peripheral port and Bridgeport, this engine is a piece of cake compared to a real rotary that has corner seal side seals two-piece Apex seals with springs, you have no idea unless you've actually built a real rotary, the seals are a pain in the butt. This engine piece of cake there's really nothing you can mess up unless you lose some parts.
@@WarpedYT , Matt, how tight was your engine as received? Mine has zero chance of running as the stainless plates are sprung inward towards the rotor. This engine needs a major overhaul before it can seal properly and run as intended. What happened to your cooling fittings?
There are some pretty spicy mini generators out there, using gas turbine engines, some of them can make upwards of 10,000 watts in a unit the size of an 18 pack of beer. Spendy AF though.
Motors like this do not make electricity, they spin wheels. However, you could attach a small generator to the output shaft and drive it. He said this motor generates 0.7 of a horsepower. 1hp = 754 watts, so that's around 520 watts output... shove that into a small generator at whatever efficiency and you'd end up with something lower than 520 watts. So theoretically you could generate enough to run a few light bulbs or a diy electric drill. That being said, it would be more efficient to attach a drill bit directly to the output shaft of the motor and do some damage against a wall like that. You could make a great little chainsaw :P
@@mikesalive three phase brushless motors are excellent generators, what are you talking about? They require extra components to make use of it to convert it into usable power but they certainly do work. That's how regenerative braking works in electric cars, the motor gets turned by the wheels which generates power to charge the batteries.
If I remember correct they made a “radial” engine where the cylinders heads move and not the crank. Not the same as what you are saying but still pretty cool.
An engine for $500 that you have to CNC parts for, come up with a way to start it, it doesn't really wanna run and self-destructs within the first 10 runs. Yeah, a nice deal.

@@volvo09 So why worry about making it functional then? It's either a display (Cheap) or a runner. I totally get what you are saying... but if they sell it as a running engine... then it should run, and be built well enough to be used for a reasonable amount of time. Let's face it... Glow Fuel is 20% oil... so stuff will get lubed. They need to use good materials, and build them to a good standard.
Thats amazing. Bet it cost a pretty penny I would love to have this just as a ornament on my shelf to play around with time to time. Love your channel man.
They are $500, so just 50,000 ordinary pennies, doesn't need to be a pretty penny either.
So 4 rotor will cost around 2100-2500 it's cheaper then real one 60 000
@@Deep42Thought I'm not sure who pays $60k for a 4 rotor though, my RX-8 was $3250, so buy two whole cars (plenty of spares that way in case you wreck on the track), and you're at $7k plus probably less than $53,000 for someone to bolt two together. Also note the rotary is one of the easier engines to do that too, I chatted with a guy who built a 12 rotor engine from 6x RX-7 engines (I think it had 12 turbochargers in total), and then he sold it to fund his next new project build and toy.
Its probably just about as expensive to turbocharge them, just the exhaust manifold was like $3k a year ago (its since gone down a lot, and yeah you could weld one yourself but I'm referring to just bolt together options). Then you have to find a tuner that specializes in turbo rotaries. Its cool, but its a mess.
That's an angry little fella :D Idle like 10 000 rpm :D
Unlike the OS motor, it sounds like a proper rotor!
Wow, as usual with your posts, I love this thing. I was thinking a custom 3 rotor would be sweet for an RC!
Also, nice Rob reference 👍 I’m sure he would like this rotary too.

Wow this is possibily one of the happiest videos rotary heads can watch on youtube!!!!! This is so AWESOME. I need one now 😭
Who else was peeping that dowel pin doing a little dance?
That's awesome. Can you turn it into a triple rotor, or a quad rotor? I feel like it needs a bigger flywheel too.
Synching the rotors would be a nightmare.
An old gunsmith trick when you have parts that may pop out do the work inside a clear plastic bag. Might not be conducive to filming but you'll contain your parts. I learned this after looking for a tiny spring for two hours. :)
Actually when you think of it 0.7hp is a decent amount when lokking at the size
a 50 cc moped in my countrie can legaly only have 1 hp. So yeah 0.7 on that engine is huge.
thats the claim to fame of rotaries. small engines making big power
most 50cc mopeds make between 1.5 hp-3.5
Time to buy 5 more and make a mini 6 rotor

Love your work mate, great stuff, when you got it on a lower idle that lumpy rotor sound was identical to the road cars.
While it's still nearly new you might want to measure up and machine a few rotor housings as spares, better apex seals will make it run much better but it will also wear out your housings faster
He'd better have a really accurate CNC cutter if he's going to machine THAT shape.
Thats so cool lets sit it in small rx-7 :D
Omg coooool!!!!! Let's see a little RX-7 now with a tiny turbo & FMIC

Just imagine giving Rob Dahm a mini 4 rotor of this type as a present! Next we will see him building an AWD, FD2 RC hahaha
I’d always wondered how a rotary engine worked and now I know. Thanks .
Pretty cool! Looks like you need to get some sort of exhaust seal going on there with all that ooz. EDIT: Sounds like it's WAY too rich. If you get the right air fuel ratio as well as better compression, it would help the rpms. But 30,000???? That's sick!
@@martinhirsch94 sorry my dude but the output ratio of the engine 1:3 meaning the crankshaft turns 3 times as fast as the engine. so the crank is doing 30k and the engine is doing 10k
I really hope your project for this engine is putting it inside of a Mazda miniature model car. You could get one from Tamiya !

Would be interesting to connect that motor to the engine and see how much power you can generate from the engine.
The starter motor would slow it down unless you had a faster brushless motor, which that one wasn’t.
@@garygaarderjr9733 yeah it would slow down but it would be interesting how many watts could be drawn until it stalls
rotary engines make a nice small engine for EV range extenders
Waiting for your "That sounds like a Rotary" t-shirts/merch 😂 Love it man, thank for the vid!
@@GFTPSMP It needs a redesign
I'd love to see a multi rotar built using parts from that tiny engine.
Yeah, but you need one major part that is not there. It would be easier to just couple two of them.
@@MrJdsenior Sure, now let's build a 6-rotor for a go-kart!

Just found your channel and subscribed. Nice engine
I think you screwed it up by taking it apart. Gaskets need to be replaced with new ones when you disassemble an engine.
If the gaskets aren't torn up they are fine.
No they dont need to be replaced, as long as there is not toomuch dammageits perfectly fine.
I always wonder how much actual electricity you can make from tiny motors.
@@TheExplosiveGuy Sorry, I was replying to the op. Your comment didn't show up for me until now, and yes, you are correct.
