Our flying field's (SGVRCL) Club President, Gilbert Lucero, helped my dad and I get our Great Planes Escapade all tuned up from over a year in slumber! It felt great to fly a fast and loud nitro plane again! There is just nothing like the sound and smell of a nitro motor!
I didn't use a microphone so there are no flight narration on this video. I focused on fast flying fun! It took me a while to get used to her speed especially during landing. But, I think I finally managed to tame her!
This is the Escapade Sport .40-.55 GP/EP 52.5" ARF.
    Equipped with the following:
    - O.S. 55AX glow engine with muffler
    - Cool Power 15% Total Synthetic Model Fuel
    - APC 11 x 6 Sport Prop
    - (5x) Tactic TSX-35 standard servos
    - 6.6V 1450mAh 2S LiFe receiver battery
    - Spektrum DX-8 transmitter
    - Spektrum AR-620 6-channel receiver

@@BluecollarPodcast1776 If you are not familiar with the operation of a glow engine I strongly advise you to seek competent help. Glow engines are reliable when properly tuned but you can't do it with a left handed hammer. Also fuel tank position is rather critical.

I have watched nitro guys many times, I'm an engineer with good theoretical expertise in this field, I've read and watched about it on internet a lot, and I still needed few advices from experienced nitro guys to fly my nitro plane for the first time.
But to answers your question, glow fuel is always methanol with about 20% oil, and optionally some nitromethane. Methanol can be substituted with ethanol, oil can be castor or synthetic or mix of both, nitromethane adds power and makes the motor easier to tune.

Thanks! We actually bought this new from one of the RC pilots in our club two years ago. He bought it new from Tower Hobbies some years back but he said that he never had time to even take it out of the box! So we bought it for less than half the retail price! We put in our own electronics and motor and she was flying the following weekend!

You have a good engine guy at your field. His advice was top notch. Many people go off nitro because they don’t know how to tune them or “listen” for lean (dull, nasaly sound with throttle advance quoting) vs rich( sluggish, spluttering burbling sound)
Having this knowledge from an experienced nitro dude means you can really enjoy nitro for years with minimal reliability issues.
Great flying though and hope to see you get more nitro planes in the air!!

Great video I’m an Rc car guy thinking of getting a nitro plane and I noticed you weren’t using an air filter, do planes not need them like cars? Thanks

    • @JonsRC
      @JonsRC  Год назад

Thanks! Honestly, we’ve never seen anyone in the field use them for their nitro planes. For cars running in the dirt, it makes sense but for airplanes in the air probably not so much. I guess on some planes where the nitro motor is oriented towards the ground it would make sense. Again, we are new to nitro planes and the field Admin who helped us build it never mentioned the air filter.

0:16 NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER turn the propeller with the plug igniter on. NEVER! if you want to keep your finger on your hand. NEVER do it. FIRST you turn the propeller with NO igniter, for loading some fuel into carburator, THEN you mount the igniter and from that moment, you turn the propeller for starting the engine.
