  • On this planet there are plenty of animals with impressive camouflage. Camouflage can be used both for defence and attack as it can help animals blend in with their environment to avoid predators but it can also help predators sneak up on their prey. Most animals display impressive camouflage but some animals take it to the next level. Animal mimicry is when an animal has evolved to resemble an object or other species. Mimicry can also be use both for defence and attack and I will be going through just a few of the best animal mimics in this video as I will be going through 5 impressive animal mimics.

As it has been mentioned in the comments before, Salticid spiders mimicking various species of ants would be an excellent candidate for this series. I've always been fascinated by them. Although it's worth mentioning that jumping spiders aren't the only family of spiders that mimick ants. Also, the stick insect you've shown in the video, _Extatosoma tiaratum_ has several different ways of mimickry. A seed as an egg, an ant as a nymph and variable colours in the further stages of their lives depending on the environment they live in. The lichen variation is particularly interesting. They might also fit well in following videos of this series.

The alligator snapping turtle is moving northward due to globalclimate change, plus they are now crossbreeding with the common snapping turtle.

I’ve always been impressed by the Cuttlefish and Mimic Octopus, they’re practically a Chameleon that you’d see on TV.
Think you could do a video on some interesting native animals from Australia?

Very cool idea. I have to say, having run across plenty of Alligator Snapping Turtles in the wild, that keeping one for a pet would be a very bad idea.

For the average Joe yeah. The youtubers called Snake Discovery have one, as well as an actual gator named Rex. They tell people all the time not to try and raise them themselves though, as they're very difficult to handle

I have a few suggestions! The mimic saddle filefish, it's a filefish that mimics the patterns and behavior of saddle toby puffer (Canthigaster valentini), it is a small toby puffer which is poisonous. The mimic would swim in small groups of saddle puffer so to avoid predators

there is also animals that makes sounds like other animals, and some does it to lure other animals in, keep others away or well just because they hear them a lot.
as an example i once had a parraket that could sound like the dog i had and even say my name.
there are also a moth that makes the sounds of a bat that hunts moths to make so that it does not get eaten.

Another one is the false cleanerfish(Aspidontus taeniatus), it is a fang blenny that also mimics the behavior and appearance of cleaner wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus), instead of cleaning their clients, they take a bite of scales and flesh.

    ruclips.net/video/mSB71jNq-yQ/видео.html
it has some incredible sound mimicry, really amazing, it does man made sounds like camera shutters and chainsaws that are eerily accurate.
Also I think your weight on the snapping turtle is wrong, it's 180 pounds not kgs haha
