  • On this planet there are both cute an ugly animals. Every bodies definition of cute is different but cute animals usually have large eyes, lots of fur and are normally chunky. Some cute animals are secretly vicious and in some cases they can even be brutal. In this video I will be covering these animals as I will be going through 5 cute animals that are secretly brutal.

    Leopard Seals are definitely cute, and while people should be careful around them - and all wild animals, as you point out- I hate that I've seen people mention them as human killers and talk as if they're something to fear.
    There has been one recorded death (I believe some trips to the antarctic have rumours of deaths) but it is like you are in the savannah with a circling lion and yet because they are seals some people don't take them seriously. You should be cautious, but there is a big difference between caution and creating an atmosphere of fear. As you said, these animals aren't VILLAINS. They are out there where they are supposed to be, we're the ones encroaching.

    Baby animals look cute as a survival mechanism. The rounded head, big eyes, smaller nose and mouth trigger certain protective behaviors in their caretakers, and this works across different species. We humans melt at the sight of kittens and puppies, and, of course, human babies. We want to cuddle them, feed them, protect them. If not for this instinctive behavior towards their young, many species would have died out long before now. Thank you for the opportunity to use my zoology degree! 😁

    Gray seals - Might seem harmless, but they still are large, powerful animals (up to 400 kgs.) which can kill large prey items such as small sharks, seabirds, porpoises and even other seals, with cannibalism not being unknown to them. One of them even killed a dog which ventured in its territory, right in front of the pet owner's eyes!
    Bonobos - Althought considered the "good" counterpart to "evil" chimps, they still are able to exhibit occasional predatory behaviour, not being above even to hunt for smaller primates. Cases of cannibalism have also been documented.
    Bottlenose dolphins - They practice infanticide and are also known to kill smaller cetaceans, either to reduce competition, or sometimes possibly just for the "fun" of it: them, and humans, might be the only species proven to have killed just for the sake of it!
    They also are known to force pufferfish to release Tetrodotoxin in the water just to get high on it.

    On butcherbirds: they are BRAZEN and will go after your pets. I know people who have owned Guinea pigs and rabbits, and for them butcher birds were a major concern as their hutch was outside.
    But being inside doesn’t mean your pets are safe. I have a budgie, and while he’s out of his cage, butcher birds will linger outside the windows and stare at him hungrily. On several occasions we’ve entered the room his cage is in and found a hungry butcherbird on his cage, trying to get to their ‘snack’.
    He’s pretty safe in there as long as he’s not by the cage walls, and I doubt they could get in.
    Our dogs are actually pretty good at keeping the butcher birds away, despite being very docile with my budgie, so that’s an added layer of security. I feel like they recognise that the butcherbirds are trespassing at the very least, if not also trying to eat an established family member.

    As much as it completely sucks, I dont think we can stop koalas going extinct. Pandas either, theyre literally so underwhelming that without human aid, they’d go extinct. An animal that cant fend for itself while being fully healthy and sometimes even strong in its species, I feel is just kind of not needed

    • @testerwulf3357
      @testerwulf3357 2 года назад +1

      They purposefully eat things horrible for their health..there's no saving something like that! Pandas can't even taste meat, and they'd do so much better if they ate meat..or at least didn't eat bamboo, anything but bamboo. Koalas eat leaves that no joke toxic and make them sleepy..along with slowly ruining their teeth to the point most wild ones eventually die from being unable to eat due their poor teeth health or they're simply killed by something else.
      There's literally no saving creatures who cannot functionally survive without dropping like flies without human help, we should honestly let them go and use that money for species that can bounce back and survive..it's sad but it's true; we can't save everything.

    Here's a fun fact serving as a reason for why dogs in general should be here: The reason dogs like chew toys is because they trigger the same response as the agonized whimpers and cries of prey did for their wolf ancestors as they ate them alive.

    • @testerwulf3357
      @testerwulf3357 2 года назад

      Wolves don't eat things alive, they kill things then devour them. But yes squeaky toys activate their hunting instincts as things they'd normally hunt would squeak when bit or would give away the position of food! My mom actually heard squeaking in the back yard once and went out to see my dog playing with a baby mice..she killed it with a shovel afraid our dog would get sick!

    • @skakdosmer

      My parents bought a squeaky plastic shoe for our dog many years ago. But the dog didn't like it, so he brought it out to our entrance and left it among the other shoes. "Thanks, but no thanks!" Then my dad removed the squeaker and gave it to the dog again, and now that it only said "phhhhh" when he bit it, he loved it!

    Deff pretty adorable getting adopted as a new child by a leopard seal.
    This may be a similar situation as has been observed in other wild animals, like that one lioness that got captured on film adopting a young antelope.
    It is thought she did this because her own cubs previously had died, and she was still in mother mode mentally and hormonely.
    This may have been the situation with the leopard seal in this story trying to feed that photographer,
    She may have adopted him as her cub in attempt to fulfill her mothering compulsion she still had from the recent loss of a cub.

    • @testerwulf3357
      @testerwulf3357 2 года назад +1

      Mothering instincts really are strong like that! Penguins often show this off extremely..if they don't succeed in laying an egg hormones take over anyways and in the need to nurture they'll take care of rocks, ice, snowballs, and even kidnap other chicks to smother them with affection! Also seen cats take in other creatures to nurse along with their own, and dogs especially take up nursing and raising other animals when they loose their litters (once seen a dog take care of an orphan lion cub, raised it with her pack of other dogs, the lion was one of them till they could put the lion in a pride; the cub couldn't be in a pride before for obvious reasons, and they wanted it to experience pack behavior so it wouldn't be too isolated and would accept being in a pride easier so they chose a pack of happy dogs). Hormones and the instinct to nurture is very strong in animals.
